This guide should help you getting started with mining.
First you will need a high end ATI GPU (high end as in fast not necessarily HD 7xxx but rather HD x990 x970 x950 x870 x850).
Here you can see what speed your card should be getting:
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison
https://github.com/litecoin-project/litecoin/wiki/Mining-hardware-comparison
You will need at least 300kh/s to make money (scrypt mining).
Download cgminer or reaper (It’s relatively easy to find on google).
Since its way better to mine scrypt currencies I will base the guide on that but if you want to mine bitcoin you can just remove the scrypt command and it should work for bitcoin mining.
Cgminer setup:
after extracting make a new txt file in your cgminer folder.
Based on your gpu you will use different commands. It will look something like this:
cgminer.exe --scrypt -o fcp2pool.dyndns.info:9327 -u username.1 -p password --shaders 1440 --worksize 256 -g 1 --intensity 18
Go to the second link (github) and look for your card. You will be able to find the correct flags to add for your card there (if the table doesn’t fully show use firefox to view the flags).
save the the file as a .bat(file > save as > save as type = all file type > filename.bat )
Reaper:
in the reaper.conf you must add the device number of your gpu you want to mine with, an example is:
kernel reaper.cl
save_binaries yes
enable_graceful_shutdown no
long_polling yes
cpu_mining_threads 0
platform 0
device 0
mine litecoin
litecoin.conf:
Based on your gpu you will use different commands. It will look something like this:
host fcp2pool.dyndns.info
port 9327
user username
pass password
protocol litecoin
worksize 256
aggression 18
threads_per_gpu 1
sharethreads 4
lookup_gap 2
gpu_thread_concurrency 1440
Now you should be able to mine, all that’s left is getting your wallet and a location to mine.
Wallet for litecoin: Litecoin - Open source P2P digital currency
The wallet must first sync with the entire transaction chain, this takes a while. You can start mining before the sync is done tho. The important thing to know from your wallet is the wallet address, this is what people/you use to transfer coin to your wallet. Backup your wallet and save the .bat file. If your hhd break or you format your hdd you will lose all your coin unless you have the wallet.bat somewhere safe.
Where to mine? You can google litecoin pools and you should find lots.
Like: https://www.litecoinpool.org/ or ltcmine.ru
I’m also hosting a small local p2pool.
This should allow you to mine feathercoin and litecoin with lower rejects.
connect: fcp2pool.dyndns.info
FC port: 19327 LTC port: 9327
username: feathercoin/litecoin wallet address password: anything
Stats:
FC: http://fcp2pool.dyndns.info:19327/static/
LTC: http://fcp2pool.dyndns.info:9327/static/
fee = 3%
If you never use p2pool before, unlike pool mining p2pool will payout after every block and it will show up as mined in your wallet. You don’t need to register, simple point your miners to the url/port with your wallet address as username and you should see you first payment within an hour.
usefull links:
https://www.litecoinpool.org/calc (to check your ltc per day/week/month)
www.bitx.co.za (to sell btc for money directly into SA bank account)
I trade my ltc when its 4 to 5 usd worth for bitcoin then I sell my bitcoin @ www.bitx.co.za.
