With the new expansion out, I got back into playing this.
Never got to Ultimate before this expansion, but really enjoying this game now and have 2 characters there.
Shards are way better than D3 Rifts, I have come across some unique ones that were pretty cool.

Farming gear in this game is crazy hard, anyone got any recommendations?

I currently run Crucible, as I found this to be much faster and more rewarding than running Shards for now. Getting 1/2 Legendaries and a blueprint or 2 per 90~100 or 100~110 run, and I can chain a whole bunch of these really quick. Shards take longer, have to track down the enemies, and then to get decent rewards you have to go quite deep which takes waaay too long.

If anyone is keen to play multi I have a bunch of different leveled characters over Normal and Ultimate. Can find me on Steam, same name and avatar.

Have a few toons on Elite ~75'sh level but stopped playing them for some reason. Currently playing Oathbreaker / Demolitionist , eye of the storm , really liking the win and spin game play. Reminds me of Diablo furious charge / wirlwind barb.

Hopefully I can level it some more and try Ultimate.

Oh, and if you havn't installed Grim intervals I can highly recommend it. Having the health bars above the monsters / your character / pets really helps. Oh, and the auto pickup of items is nice :)

Hope the devs can add item searching in the stash tab , it would be great. I saw there are a few mods than can do it, but its more of a offline stash tab with unlimited storage space.

You mean Grim Internals? Very cool.

I'm relatively new - running a Warder build. Lvl 53 Soldier/Shaman with lots of lightning. He's a bit of a glass cannon though. Occasionally I'll get taken out with one hit...might have something to do with my -18% poison resistance :p
Half way through Elite. Told myself I'd play through once and move on but I can't stop :)

Yes , yes..........internals........eish. Intervals .....lol

I want to try a pet orientated build or a retaliation build sometime.

Oh, and its the first arpg that I know of that you can dual wield shields :)

Waat? Haha!
I'm sticking with two-handed weapons. Been tempted to switch to dual wield or a (one) shield but I can't find anything that comes close to the DPS of my two-handed weapons.
I love that this game lets you buy back your skill points!

2 handers will always look like they trounce the damage of a 1 hander and shield / off hand. But they don't come with as many "other" stats that you can get like resistances or + to skills. With the + to skills the damage can start to outdo 2 handers. A good way to see this is set up a weapon swap and then set your main damage skill to left / right click, then check character page 2 to see the dmg of your left and right click skills with the different weapon sets.
Shields add a lot of survivability, I switched to the legendary one called "Meat Shield" mid Elite and that helped make the rest of Elite incoming dmg a tickle.
Getting some % damage as life (lifesteal) also helps quite a bit. I had about 45% during Elite, but dropped it down a bit during Ultimate to add either dmg or defense.

I also started playing again. Now on lvl64 I think, playing a Warlord this time around. Well for now just soldier no skill points in Oathkeeper yet. The easiest way for me to lvl is 2h + Forcewave + Blitz and get Kraken and you are sorted till probably lvl 80. I will then start respeccing into Oathkeeper and go 1h+shield.

You'd be surprised. One-handers are usually much faster, which literally translates to higher DPS. Just because the number is lower doesn't mean they can't dish out as much or more damage in a small amount of time.
You just usually lose out on the nice big AoE moves so if you factor in abilities then if your enemy/ies doesn't move much then the 2-hander might be better.

Though that's speaking general aRPG, not necessarily Grim Dawn.

What if you just do shields for survivability and rely purely on spells? Then suddenly 2 shields makes sense.

I am still finding it confusing working out which weapons are better than others. Sometimes GD will display a green + with a number indicating damage increase of the weapon. But once equipped the dps number under the character stats drops.

Do you stick with the green + or use the DPS stat instead ?

It displays max proficiency when not equipped and drops by any limiters you might still have. This usually especially noticeable in dual wield when early on the the left weapon drops right off when equipped to the point that dual wielding from the start is usually ill advised.

Personally I always take both out into the field and do a real world test, spend two minutes mowing through some mobs and then decide which feels better. Eventually you know sort of what buffer you need to get something that actually does more damage (in other words how much higher the green figure needs to be to make a real difference).

Also DPS doesn't usually count additional elemental damages, just the direct physical damage. So something with a damage over time augment and additional elemental damage may wipe more mobs than something with higher DPS.

And whilst the stat is called DPS it actually feels more like damage per hit than second. Especially since really high damage 2-handers often take more than a second to actually hit.

Actually it's been a while since I played Grim Dawn, can you see the damage breakdown if rather than doing the compare you look at the weapon itself? Forgot what aRPGs let you do that. And then I do a mental comparison rather than side by side ignoring any increases the game tells me about completely.

I sometimes go to example Homestead, and test on the dummies, sometimes the differences are just not that noticeable. :(

Guess your approach is the easiest, if it feels good then it must be better :)

Some things can't be seen in the +dmg or even character pg2. As Mast3rBlast3r said there are so many DoT and passive skills that interact with your skill and with your attacks per second (% chance on attack/crit). I don't trust the +dmg green number on the weapon once I get to Elite since by then you have a decent set of skills and devotions that add so much more background damage. I focus more on the pg2 dmg and then some gut feel on whatever other changes the items offer. The pg2 breaks down all the damage types that skill will do so you know what damage type to focus on.

Some good places to test your dps is skellingtons (the revenants are quite tanky when you first meet them) and now the Korvan Basin Watchers that pop up from the broken armour (these things make orange mob hp seem tame).

Started using Item Assistant last night, found its by far the best way to search through your stash. Sorts by level or dmg type or skills, pretty much anything. Just make sure to back up all your save files first.

Is ANyone still jamming this?

Got all the DLC's on the summer sale and started playing last night, started out with Shaman to give Dual wield a try in the later levels.

Wondering what mods to install to improve the quality of life? and anybody got camera rotations on something other than default bindings?

Was thinking of installing the auto pickup but see they are putting it in as a feature in 1.4 so may as well just wait for it since I'm lower level

Would grind this out with some folks if we can put together a party. Such an enjoyable game

I only use Grim Internals. I know there are some inventory management mods too, but I havn't tried them.
