I bought a Ryzen 1600X yesterday and I am really surprised by the OC headroom on this chip. Just want to find out what you guys see as a good OC.

Well most of the online Youtubers seemed to be reaching around 3.9 to 4.2Ghz with those chips. I assume if you're saying it's done well that you may have broken this threshold which is excellent if AMD have improved the bios to that extent. Do you have figures to post up?

If your figures are great it may make me start dreaming of threadripper again lol

The specs are...

Motherboard - Asus Crosshair VI Hero
CPU - Ryzen 5 1600X
Memory - 4Gb generic Samsung DDR4 2133
Cooling - CM Hyper H411R (The only cooler I could find yesterday that had AM4 brackets)

The CPU has been purring along at 6GHz at about 45° since yesterday

How much LN2 have you been using?

I'm so sad, I would burn my 8700k right now but it runs hotter then any fire so there's no way in hell that fire could affect this spawn of evil lol. Meh gives me something to aim at ha ha. Do some benchy marks..... do you even bench bro do you, how much can you bench

6ghz is godly though and at those temps on AIR ah it's good to be alive..... Don't forget to leave your address next to your benchmark so that Intel know where to send your gifts to ;)

:)

6.35Ghz and later I'll get a note from Intel including a shovel to show where this cpu must get placed for Intel appreciation day :ROFLMAO:

I tried just changing to 6ghz for the hell of it now now but my board said would you like to tell me another joke? JK it didn't work out so well because usually I do my overclocks with tiny jumps to work on stability so currently with my manual settings and just putting in 6Ghz windows bsods as soon as I see the lock screen so tinkering is needed

Come on Rob. Your CPU costs 4 times what mine did. I'm sure it can do 6GHz on auto OC :)

If only that were possible, that CPU would be worth at the least $5000 USD at least to AMD and INTEL.
reading bug, try HWINFO for real clock or CPU-Z even

Has GTX 1060 plus 6.35GHz Ryzen 1600X....installs 4GB RAM

:(

I'm still waiting for my memory. Should arrive by Friday

Edit - looks like your ram is running at 1066Mhz too.
Please make sure your new ram is clocked properly....the number of times I've seen this...

RAM probably cost more than the rest of your build anyway

I was wondering if my intel cheap could do the same since its tdp is so low and i was actually amazed that i got 7ghz on air. I've put it on ebay for 500000000 xanpons

Holy fucking shit balls. When did pc guys become douchebags?

Stop running him down, let him run benchmarks etc on the hardware to see what it's capable of. 6ghz+ is impressive IMO, however as we all know Ghz do not make your cpu the queen bee.

@Crowley congratulations once more on the figures I'm very impressed even if it doesn't come close to an 8700k those figures alone are fun to see.

The ram getting declocked seems to be an amd issue but there were a number of youtube links showing what may be causing that.

Can't wait for you to get more ram buddy definitely need some benchmarks ;)

Please dont tell me you actually believe that he gets 6.35ghz. World record at hwbot is just over 5.9ghz by der8auer on a 1600x. Second place is 5.3ghz. Those would have been done with LN2 etc. Or am I missing something here?

Well asus told him his ghz according to their tuning app, hw monitor was asked for to prove his ghz then that too was done. The guy was tinker with a bit of an overclock and those are what the apps all gave him, so then go speak to asus and ask them why their app lied then. As for been dickheads, yeah a few of you here are acting like downright cockheads. It doesn't cost anything to actually be nice to somebody and have a real discussion as to what he should be looking at if he's to overclock his system(Figures/Stats/What to look for)

Kindly even point him towards apps that don't lie then if you don't trust Asus

But to point, laugh and mock shows the level of intelligence on this thread. FYI der8auers settings do not work the same on every system either, his straight forward overclock runs unstable on my systems however if I change many of his settings to my own preferred settings I get stable 5.2ghz.

Here is the record in question you spoke of:

And as for LN2 you're totally correct in saying hot systems definitely need that stuff.

So come on guys grow up, put on your big boy pants and give him some useful feedback because if you have nothing nice to say rather say nothing at all

Ok wait, this can't be serious.
6GHz on a Ryzen CPU is impossible, even with LHe and the best sample ever. Now with air cooling, that's somewhere out there.
Let's prove this 6GHz, even though we know it's NOT POSSIBLE.
In CPU-Z, right click where it shows the CPU frequency and it will show all core frequencies. Then open HWINFO and enable the sensors only tab. Scroll down to where it shows clock speeds (should show all cores, minimum, current and maximum), does that show the same 6.3GHz? If so, please run CPU-Z's benchmark and screenshot it with CPU-Z open.

Or you could just realise it's a reporting error most likely

@Gouhan this is totally useful to him now

Constructive feedback which may lead to what is happening here and prove or disprove the figures reflected

My next goal is 5.3Ghz because my temps are still low enough to aim higher however I have to take into account all the hurdles of the 8700k not just temperatures. I can do 5.2Ghz stable which also reflects better benchmarks for my setup however my first couple of attempts at stabilizing 5.3Ghz have failed but that hasn't made me give up trying ;)
