First off, if you don't like this thread, don't come on here.

Second, if it's against some rules (I checked, can't see that it is), mods, please remove.

Now, I'm going hunting in a bit, and I was wondering if someone on here wants something. I can't shoot a truck full of stuff, so the first, say, 3 paid orders will be accepted and I'll try to fulfill them. I'm posting raw prices here, I won't be making a profit at all. Rules are going to be simple:

Item: Meat/carcass of whatever you prefer
Age: By delivery, it'll be fresh. Chilled, perhaps 2 or 3 days in the cold room
Warranty: I can give you a warranty that it's fresh
Packaging: I actually remove it from packaging after the hunt, but I can leave the packaging on if you want?
Condition: Great. Farm-fresh venison
Location: Centurion/Pretoria
Reason: I want to go hunting, but don't have a freezer big enough to store everything
Shipping: Fresh meat? No. If you want biltong/droewors I can arrange for it to be made, get it dried and ship you the dry stuff, if you want?
Collection: Of course
Price: Below
Link: Google for images

How this has worked before is simple: I give prices and a person tells me he wants an *insert animal here*. We arrange the location and stuff, and if he wants a full carcass, carcass cut into main pieces (boude & blaaie) or if I should drop the carcass off at a butchery for him so that they can process the meat into whatever he wants, such as biltong, droewors, steaks, boerewors, etc. etc. I don't mind arranging this, but the cost of this will be for your pocket (and payable on collection, I'll contact the butchery to find the costs involved and give you an estimate of what it'll cost).

We'll be hunting in the Free State, in the Memel district, and the farmer has the following available:

Blesbuck - R1,400
Springbuck - R1,200
Black Wildebeest - R3,500
Red Hartebeest - R4,500

Estimate carcass weights (utilizable carcass weight, completely dressed and cleaned):

Blesbuck: ~35kg, but it should be a bit more
Springbuck: ~20kg
Black Wildebeest: ~50kg
Red Hartebeest: ~40kg

So yeah. Post here or PM, I don't mind either.

PS: I'm not hunting for trophies per se, but I know the district and I know the animals there - trophies are not impossible.

Ek wil net he jy moet biltong saam bring as jy weer kom kuier. Baie biltong.

LOL. As ek iets self kon skiet sou ek, maar daar's 'n rede hoekom ek die ad hier post. Vrou eet GLAD nie wildsvleis nie, so my opsies is limited... :p

How much for a widebeest hide?

How much for a widebeest hide?

Well, I'll have to shoot one, so R3,500 excl taxidermy fees. If you can find someone to split with, perhaps 50/50 he takes meat and you take hide, you can strike is great bargain. Tanning of the hide costs about R1,500 (last time I checked) and takes a few months to complete.

How much would it cost to make biltong from a whole animal? You know per kg of meat or whatever you call it.

Depends on the butchery Phence. Mostly between R12 - R14 per kilogram, so a 20kg springbok will be roughly R240 - R280.

Toxxyc338 Ek het net vandag n paar bees biltonge gehang... Sit maar hierdie winter uit :( Sterkte met die jag

Thanks but I prefer hunting at Woolworths and PicknPay. ;)

Butcheries charge per kg of carcass weight (dressed & cleaned). This can differ WILDLY from butchery to butchery, but the going rate is around R20 per kg max, including spices and fats and so forth. I actually checked this morning, and Hokaai Meat Market in Centurion (great butchey), charges R18,95 per kg, from which I can get a 5% discount because I'm a dedicated hunter and a member of the SA Hunters and Game Conservation Association. That's basically then R18 per kg, which is a really good price considering what I've seen other people charge. Their quality is top-notch as well.

What we usually do with a carcass is hand in at the butchery and tell them to make the larger cuts into biltong, make droëwors with the rest and leave a little bit of meat on the bones, cut them up and pack them for soup/stew/potjie meat. You get the whole carcass in weight back, before drying, and you have biltong/droëwors and stewing beef for a while. I have a guy interested in 6kg's of stewing meat/shins, should someone want to take the rest of the animal.

PS: Blesbuck is by far the best value for money and an easy shooter in those districts. I shot a Rowland Ward sized trophy (well, 1/2" under) in that district not 4 years ago.

I`d love some, but I`m on the coast! Enjoy the hunt!

:p throwing in a ad for myself here :p if you do buy some meat from mr Toxxyc338 and want to make your own biltong, my company sells Stainless steel biltong cabinets with heaters, extraction fans and anti bacterial UV lights, smallest one will do 12kg of biltong/ drywors in 48 hours. Ill give special price for our carbie family. They are a bit overboard for someone that wants to make biltong once but if you make biltong often, perfect. Dont wish to derail so please PM me with any questions ... Enjoy your hunting :)

I don't mind discussions in this thread at all. In fact, I want to open the thread for discussions including prices, because I'm not going to make a cent's worth of money from what I'm trying here.

Damn...if only you were closer to durban... been keen to do a deal like this with a hunter. I don't know if I could do kill an animal...But I want the biltong so bad :(. also hate any of it going to waste so that's always a big concern of mine

Bud, we are what's called "biltong hunters". There's nothing that goes to waste. :)

Oh, I should probably mention that I can't ship fresh meat, but if anyone is interested I can make biltong, get it dried and then ship the dried stuff around.

Well I'm keen on a couple of Kg's of either springbok or besbok biltong if anyone wants to jump in on splitting the biltong and/or wanting the stewing meats... Mogo / anyone else? :)

I am also keen if anyone wants to split some with me maybe a split in two or three?
Toxxy when are you planning on going hunting?

I just did the maths.

35Kg / 70% (drying) = 24.5KG biltong
35kg x R20 (drying) = R700
R1400 (meat) + R700 (drying) + R150 (courier) = R2250
R2250 (total cost) / 24.5Kg = R91.83 / Kg biltong

If I didn't just buy a laptop on carb yesterday I would of taken a blesbok for biltong. I mean less than R100 / Kg of biltong is nuts if I am working it out correctly? And it is your own biltong, like fresh wild biltong!

Right, guys, so I'm going to leave it up to YOU to figure out who wants what. I can keep track if you want?

I'm leaving on the 1st of July, for a weekend.

So far the interested people are:
pbuitendag StarGazer Shwam Phence DeityRaid

Missing someone/something?

I'm happy with Besbok, Phence I hink those calcs may be a bit off because you also get stewing meats ect, not everything goes straight into biltong, but it will be along those lines anyway...

After Nanosoldier breaking my bank balance yesterday I'd prefer contribute about quarter? I'm easy, lets get this going, I'm hungry on this Tuesday morning.

Shit, I'm going bow hunting the weekend after that. It would be my first time with the bow, so I would have chipped in for a carcass if I came back empty.
I can't time travel so I'm pretty much screwed if I emerge meatless from the hunt :(

I'm happy for any type of bokkie.

If someone is organising and has a couple kg of biltong left.
I'd happily spend up to R500.
