Gaming Desk

Basically I just need something to put a monitor on (looking to get one of those samsung ultrawide curved 34 inch ones) but getting tempted by the aesthetics of those funkier desks

If you would like something a bit funkier the build it with metal, should work out even cheaper.

It'll probably be quite flimsy then, if you ask me. A good desk will run into the ~R1.5k mark for material alone, so keep that in mind. Personally I'd go for a more solid desk made with thicker steel and then have the option to bolt stuff onto it, like a screen mount and so on. I think @ViVception was looking for something a while back - maybe check with her what she ended up with?
I bought a basic dining table (pine) and then I stained and varnished it. I had problems finding a desk cause I specifically wanted a large black one.

Probably not the answer you were looking for but for 4k you can build something waaaaaaaaay more decent and sturdy than you can buy, and because you are building it yourself you can customise it to suit your needs, i am currently in the process of building a desk for two PCs, for myself and my son. The desks dimensions are 2600mm x 800mm, price on the wood was about 2k, and i spent another 2k on paint, paint can be a lot cheaper but for what i decided to go with i had to spend 2k (that includes a MS primer spray gun and a base-coat clear-coat spraygun)

My biggest gripe with buying a desk is that you never find something that suits your exact needs, I've attached a pic, the table is still raw, i will start painting tomorrow. The drawers sections are 500mm wide each and that leaves 1600mm space between them for chairs

PS yes i know i need decent chairs
PSS excuse the inflated mattress, was checking if it was fine for rage
PSSS yes it was designed to accommodate RGB lighting

Yeah that's what I would love to do too, but I don't gots the skillz.

Very cool idea. Been thinking about building my own desk. But if I did a custom build Id add a glass table top and put my PC inside, like those fancy pc desks. Shouldnt be to difficult at all. Airflow may be a challenge.

Do you guys have enough room there to sit next to eachother?

Also gave that a thought but going to a lan will be a bitch lol. If you do a watercooling loop then you can mount your radiator on the outside of the table, otherwise just pop a few fans on the sides with filters.

It's 800mm of space each. And that is more than enough for the two of us. But my intension is to create a thread after the build, for people interested in the build process. I'll post pictures there so you can't get an idea of the space. Unfortunately I couldn't go longer as my racing rig needs to fit in next to the table

I think that when I come back to my senses I'll just get a standard R800 table from makro which I was looking at initially
Aaaaand back to my senses, got the attached from makro for R800. I guess the cash I saved will be better spent on more important items.

On the site it says 13k
Wow I custom desked my games room with 3 play stations (me, my son and my wife) set up in a linear fashion for R5k earlier this year. Includes custom pull out for PC and keyboard/mouse tray as well. It’s not as fancy as that desk but it looks very slick.

I've been using the humble table I got from makro for just under a month, extremely happy with it thus far. Glad I didn't go crazy blowing cash on a fancier table

late to this thread but am in the market for a gaming desk and was thinking of this :

For R6599 it's not overly priced like other desks yet seems to have all the nice thing like rgb, extra usb ports and audio ports ect.

Just hardly any reviews on the desk from any of the main tech sites.

Any opinions on it ?

Just form a quick look,

USB and sound ports mounted at the back of the desk? So you put your PC on the desk or on the floor, send a cable to the back of the desk hub, then send a cable from the usb/sound hub to your device. Seems a bit silly and very unnecessary. Would be cool for a quick plug/play of a USB drive but for headphones or mouse and keyboard its silly.

Why not mount the sound ports underneath at the front at least so you dont have cables lying on the desk

VESA mount not included for R7k? shjoh

If you going to add RGB lighting to a desk maybe add a little more then or at least one at the back behind the monitor

I suppose its all subjective

The adjustable height is nice

I've got a 34 inch monitor and phanteks enthoo evolv x case that i want to display so that will all go on the desk.

So setup will look like this , just need to get some decent small 2.1 speaker setup.

will be a slight squeeze in terms of adding speakers but am thinking should be fine.

As for RGB at the back i have a strip that i can use.

Wouldn't want a VEGA mount tho prefer the monitor on the desk.

VESA mounts are one of those things you think you don't need until you have one and realise you cant live without it.

By the way, just by looking at the pic it seems that massive phantek case and a 34" screen wont fit at all or may be a really tight squeeze. Maybe check some dims before committing

Seems like it could fit but you would have to rotate your case more so that you can sit int he centre of the desk. Sitting a little off centre on the desk may be awkward as the desk curves inwards in the centre area.

The desk seems to be 771mm deep and your case is 520mm so that should fit. Not sure if the USB hub will get in the way though.

If you are planning on putting the desk against a wall then you could always fix a low shelf on to the wall and display your case like that. That way you would have the extra room on your desk.

Try find a shop that is displaying the desk so you can get a feel for it. Maybe take some cardboard cutouts of your PC to see if it fits haha

Nothing like shopping for an expensive desk, while using a Makro deals book as a mouse pad ;)

thanks for pointing out that.

definitely will be an issue sitting slightly to the left with this desk as the legs are in the way as well..

might be more than a good idea to have like a shelf for the pc on the side of the desk

and then vesa stand
