Game of Thrones Season 8

Unpopular opinion here, but I am happy enough where and how it has ended.

I always suspected that John is going to kill Danny and I wanted John to end up in the North eitherway. So I am happy enough. Could be happier, but I am happy enough.

Lots of issues with the last episode...

Why would Grey Worm allow jon to live after he kills dany. No chance in hell. He has nothing left after that, he kills jon 1000%. Also no way Dorne & the Iron Island accept Sansa getting northern independence.

yeah John and him should have had it 1v1 to see who controls the army and essentially end the war..the rest of the story wrap up i cant live with it...would have liked to see Jamie stay in the North..

Game of thrones plot is more holy than 50cent.

I don't know, this season kind of feels the same to the previous ones to me. GRRM is the king of letting you hang. Sets up Bran to become a Gandalf type character, doesn't do it. Kill off other characters he shouldn't have, resurrects them. Also any reading the books will realise how late he actually introduces the idea of Aegon Targaryan (book 4), after he said publicly it would be a trilogy. Personally I just think he is a crappy author. People always told me that that makes him different from other fantasy authors, because he doesn't play by the rules. Hence no morally sound characters etc.

Well to everyone that said that, I hope you are satisfied now.

Edit:
Sorry didn't see Ron's post above. Yeah, exactly that. GRRM is a great pantser. Been saying it all along. All the greats, Tolkien, Gemmell, great plotters. Robert Jordan is also a pantser, hence why he died before actually finishing Wheel of Time. I have a very strong preference for reading/watching plotters rather than pantsers.

This is exactly why he introduces things he never properly develops. Or why Jon Snow traveled the entire Seven Kingdoms three times over while the Night King's Army moved 5km's (and they were introduced right at the start only to be ignored for 3 books). Pantsers should actually be known as "plot-holers".

I also have to chip in here: given the shows popularity, we finally have a new dawn of sci-fi/fantasy shows with huge budgets and HBO wants a big piece of the pie. We really shouldn't complain, we were entertained and need to think of GoT as the pioneer that will hopefully gives us some proper shows (non-YA tripe).

It feels like a good long term relationship hitting rock bottom in a few weeks.

Goeie bliksem... That is exactly how it felt dude... Happy and excited for the future. Then one day you realise something is different and within weeks its all gone.

Damn.

No. The Aegon foreshadowing for Jon starts from book 1. It's strongest in book 2 or 3, don't remember where the House of Undying is but in the vision Denaerys sees there. Though you would be forgiven for forgetting given that vision is left out entirely in the series. And then it actually quietens down again. Even the Martell Aegon is mentioned earlier during that bit where Illyrio visits King's Landing and Arya overhears some of the conversation down in the catacombs.

Just like Tyrion's possible Targaryen heritage never makes it into the series. Though even in the books it may just be a red herring.

Sure he's not an amazing author, but he's a fuckload better than the show's writers.

D&D really killed one of the best tv shows. I still cannot believe it was this bad.

Breaking Bad rules!

Yes , yes ........... what a great show.
Also the Sopranos , till this day the ending is stuck in my head. Every time I hear Journey play it reminds me of that show.

What was the point in knowing John was actually Aegon Targaryan. It made no difference whatsoever

If the ending remained as is except having John King of the 7 kingdoms it would of been an epic ending.

And Screw Hodor, he should never have held the door

K so sufficient time has passed now.
There's a problem with Jon's conclusion.

So he's banished to the Night's Watch. Once there he dons blacks but then leaves again with the Wildlings? So what now? Is he a Night's Watch member or a part of them? Some sort of liaison?

And before that even. There's a problem with the Night's Watch banishment in the first place. The Night's Watch is firmly in the land controlled by the North, now an independent kingdom. Bran no longer has jurisdiction over The Night's Watch.

He can exile Jon though and completely remove that unnecessary Night's Watch nonsense. Then Jon at least has a chance to still become a king, the new king beyond the wall. Which technically I suppose the show is trying to set up anyways but in the most ham-fisted way possible.

Well the Starks basically now run the whole World, Bran is King of the six kingdoms, Sansa is Queen of the North, John (although technically not a Stark) is now the king beyond the wall and Arya is traveling west (to potentially conquer new lands, but she is not a 'lady' nor will she ever want to be, then again who knows ... )

I am also thinking that technically Bran is ruler of dragons bay as well (previously held by Dany) but the series seems to conveniently forget that Essos exists. Which apart from the free cities is the whole world

.

You must have not read my post clearly, the ending sucks. The whole of season 8 sucks is my point. Jon only had 3 lines, "She is my queen", "you are my queen" and "i don't want it".

xD

Night King died way too easy, and the fact that Greyworm let Tyrion, his prisoner choose his fate in a way doesnt make sense. Theres a lot of dumb shit really, It felt rushed. I can't believe they took 2 years to make this. & the turn they give Daenerys , XD way to change a good character out of nowhere. It isnt even clear what made her go nuts.

I was referring to your "Breaking Bad rules" comment.

Thought you were talking about that show.

I feel like Daenerys going mad is the one thing they did build up to. Her father was the mad king, her brother was mad. She lost Jorrah, Missandei, and Jon was no longer interested once he knew she was his aunt. She had no one left that she cared for as much as she did those three. Previously she burnt the Tarly father and Sam's brother. From then already things kind of felt off with her. Plus in slaver's bay the way they treated the masters was pretty brutal, I think this one had been coming since the beginning of the show.

Never had issue with her becoming the mad queen. I had issue with how the show made her get to that point. Zero writing skill and simply rushed. No other criticism than that: they ended this show in the worst possible way for a show that was known for its well paced and meticulous story telling.

as soon as the writers of the show lost the guidance from the books they slacked off and made the show into a shadow of itself - the last two seasons were comparatively pretty lame ..... the last season especially since it lacked any form of consistency or continuity with ANYTHING that happened before

it seems like George RR Martin had an endgame in sight and told them how the finish needs to happen but then the writers took the laziest and easiest way to reach this endgame within 6 episodes ..... that last season was the ultimate in patheticness and was one huge ball of sucky failure
