I've read a rumor that HBO gave them 2 more seasons to finish the story. I can imagine these okes getting bored with their new Star Wars Trilogy half way through.

HBO were willing to give them 10 seasons of 10 episodes each and the resources they needed. Dumb and Dumber declined. They are off to finish Johnson demolish job on star wars...

It isn't even the season length though that's problem. It's decisions within the episodes. With small little dialogue and scene tweaks here and there it could all still work. It wouldn't be fantastic no, and probably still a little disappointing, but it'd be passable and nowhere near the rage fest they've currently created.

It is exactly the season length. If they had more time then maybe they could fluff up the events and have it make sense. Instead they are trying their hardest to wrap things up as quickly as possible.

Unfortunately their brains just think "Most exciting season ever - so much change - edge of your seat action" When in reality it comes off rushed with more holes in it than John Snow.

Seems like more than just that. Add some "Absence of George RR Martin" and crap editing/cutting and the unfolding story is relayed in a very frustrating and confusing way. Sure they do seem to want to get it over with which I can understand, but there appears to be more than just that at play here.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are rushing it because they have got no idea what the hell to do next lol.

They are going from one fanboy infused series to the chief fanboy movie franchise. We must outrage or something!

No It's more than that. With some slight restructuring of what they've given us, an extra dialogue line here or there in the long silences maybe, and it could all be so much better. Still disappointing but a hell of a lot better.

They definitely didn't need more episodes, there's already tons of padding.

For example Angry Joe was talking about someone recutting Rhaegal's death. First Drogon and Rhaegal dive bomb the ships, all seems good, then suddenly the ballistae (please stop calling them scorpions) are revealed and Rhaegal goes down. Same short running length and yet soooo much better.

All it needs is some slight tuning and it goes from "WTF is this shit?!!" to "Well that isn't what I was hoping for, but not bad".

All I'm saying is even with the exact same running length, and the same major plot points, they could have done much better.

If you can, try remember back to season 1/2/3/4/5 and compare the 'padding'. That's what game of thrones is. If they were to carry on the legacy of game of thrones then they definitely needed a shit load more padding.

I'm not talking about exposition and character/plot development, I'm talking about actual padding. Like watching Arya for 15 minutes not do much of anything (after having previously kicked ass).

Going by the books the first 5 season have NO padding whatsover, they move by leaps and bounds, except for of course all the additional sex scenes.

Well I mean that is character development in a sense and like...if any book had padding, it'd be a blank page really. There's a reason why motion picture used silence and different shots that books don't have to worry about.

Book : She felt anguished.
Motion picture: Long scene of actor in silence blah blah blah. Showing facial expressions and that.

That's what it seems to me atleast.

True, but we kinda get the idea after 30 seconds, no need for 30 times that.

I call it padding if it represents a significant chunk of the episode without actually contributing to the progression of the episode or the overarching plot.

Either way these basterds are butchering the series and I cannot wait to finish it and be done with it. Instead of saying "Awww, it's over" it'll be "Yay, they aren't able to fuck it up any longer"

Well luckily you know it's worth waiting for. We waited forever for Season 8 of this and all for naught. Books I'd wait forever for.

I suppose that's where I differ. I didn't care about the series whilst everyone was hyping it. Tried the first ep and was confused as fuck, didn't like anyone or understand anyone's motivation and decided to drop it. Then I decided to give it a second chance with the books and suddenly it all made sense. Read through the 5 books but with the final season around the corner I started getting a bit antsy and decided to watch the series so I could be part of the conversation and have some idea how the story might continue. I only waited maybe a month. So the blow has been nowhere near as severe to me as likely most others in this thread and the net as a whole.
