Fund Raising for Car Repair

I don’t know if the person is even a Carb member, but thank you johnknight for being the first :)

@Oj0 I'd like to help out. Can you PM me bank deets? I try not to use my card online :)

For complete transparency I’d prefer it done through the site, but if that’s not an option for you let me know :)

Yeah he is. Used to be a reseller passing on some chinese media boxes and tablets.

Can't help myself unfortunately as I've got my own car repair awaiting funds (well sister's car, but same difference).

Guys I have worked on this car a few times. Please help them. They really need it!

Ai ai ai. Tonight she had to sit next to the road for an hour waiting for a tow from a neighbour. A few KM extra today meant the battery didn’t have enough charge for the drive home, so from 17:50 til 19:00 she sat in the car with the kids wanting supper and unable to do a thing. It freaking sucks.

If I may ask, what's the make and model of the car?

I'd love to know why that info appears to be "hidden"
Yeah, I'm asking cause I don't see the make and model anywhere, unless I need glasses lol, anyway, I'm asking cause if I have the make and model, I can ask around on my side, maybe a contact I have can get the parts for cheaper, that's the best way I'm able to help atm.

It’s a 2003/2004 Ford Ikon 1.3. I submitted a string of images to BackaBuddy including one of her and the kids but they only used the one.

Oof. It'd be better to get a beatup old Taz for the 18K.

The kids’ bags and equipment more than fills the boot as is. A hatchback isn’t going to be big enough unless it comes with a trailer xD And then that Tazz is one of the most frequently stolen cars.

Furthermore, after the money is spent on this it will no longer be a beat up old car, whereas that Tazz will arrive as a beat up old car.

Yeah but the Ikon is not known as a paragon of reliability. So it will go wrong again. Could be a year down the line you're back here again asking for similar things.

Then again it could be worse I guess...the car could be French or Italian. (with the exception of Romanian rebadged French cards).

A year from now several of her (any my) debts are paid off, so there's room to breathe (at the moment there is none whatsoever). A year from now something like this should be do-able without help.

In the meantime, however, having something physically too small isn't going to help much. Every morning the boot has a large school bag per child, a sports back for each of the boys for their after school sports, an aftercare bag for the third, and 1-2 laptop bags for her work. As is, several bags end up in the back of a car, so a smaller boot is not just impractical but to be completely honest not possible.

Add to that, this car is damn near impossible to steal (and nobody wants to steal it anyway :D) whereas the a Tazz, Golf or Polo is a high risk and there's the possibility of ending up with no car at all. The car is often parked in insecure (read: dodgy) locations so getting something well wanted is playing with fire.

Any chance of getting the labor cheaper. R4000 isn’t a lot considering what needs to be done but it will help a lot towards doing additional preventative maintenance like cam belt and a proper service, brake pads etc.

PCFormat maxxis?

No, no chance. There’s a lot involved with labour. It’s all in, right down to changing of tires and wheel balancing. Unless someone here wants to do it for less, which I don’t see happening.

@Skalabala saw the car yesterday - what would you estimate your cost for all the above would be?

PCF indeed.

I’ll gladly pitch in some time where possible to help install somethings.

A massive shoutout to @Skalabala - the alternator has been replaced and the car is running again.

That's one thing scratched off the list :D
