So its that time of the year again where I either bitch and moan or we just discuss the upcoming changes to the FNB Ebucks rewards system.

To those of you who want to have a loo for yourself head on over to: Earn eBucks on your FNB Premier Accounts
The above link is for Premier - if you are on gold, one of the biggest changes that have come is you no longer have a Gold Tier - its now Aspire.

CHANGES FOR FNB GOLD / FNB ASPIRE

So I will be pointing out the changes this year - is likely going to be a direct copy verbatim from FNB but hopefully its a little more useful here.

There is some BIG structure change happening here - you no longer have reward levels here. At all. You need to spend your money at the partners to get your rewards.

What is in it for you?
Up to R150 back in eBucks at Checkers, Shoprite or USave
Up to R150 back in eBucks at Clicks
Up to R150 back in eBucks at Engen
Up to R150 back in eBucks at Intercape

To save myeslf the typing:

image.png

Its woth taking note of the below:

For example, if you spend R500 at Shoprite in a month you will earn R25 in eBucks. If you spend another R500 at Shoprite in the same month, you will earn an extra R25 in eBucks. That’s a total of R50 in eBucks in the month.

To get the maximum of R150 back in eBucks, per partner, you would have to spend R3000 or more at a partner and have an active Credit Product or have an investment account with a minimum balance of R150 000.

*Have at least R150 000 in an FNB Demand Deposit Account, FNB Fixed Deposit Account (including Islamic), FNB Notice Cash Deposit Account or FNB Savings Account (including Islamic).

**Including an Overdraft, FNB Fusion account, FNB Credit Card, FNB Home Loan, FNB Personal Loan, Revolving Facility, Revolving Loan, WesBank Vehicle Finance, DirectAxis Loan, WesBank CashPower Loan or FNB Student Loan.

Well thats not very much I hear you shout and scream. Well - you can BOOST your rewards by up to R1500 a year! (Insert Owen Wilson Wow here) - but it doesnt sound like R1500 cash money / ebucks - it sounds like its a voucher for shoes:

Get rewarded with R1 500 towards a new pair of shoes every year when you spend and save with FNB, or have FNB Funeral Cover or FNB Life Insurance. Plus, get a KAUAI smoothie every month that you qualify for your shoe reward.

Visit the FNB App to track your progress and to redeem your monthly KAUAI reward valued at R40.

What is it that you need to do?

So what are the rules what do I really need to know? Good Question - but its not ..... straight forward.... why would it be its the FNB rewards scheme.

Engen Spend (Petrol - likely what people are interested in the most)

  • Earn R0.60/litre back in eBucks for your fuel spend at Engen only, based on the price of Inland ULP 95 when you use your FNB Fusion Aspire Card, FNB Aspire Credit Card and/or your FNB Aspire Debit Card. No earn will be awarded on fuel purchases at any other fuel retailers. 3. Have 100% of your fuel spend at Engen fuel stations for the quarter. If you buy fuel from any other fuel retailer using your FNB Fusion Aspire Card, FNB Aspire Credit Card and/or FNB Aspire Debit Card, you will not be eligible to earn the Double Up on Fuel reward.

To me it sounds like if you were on the fence about moving to Premier because gold was easier and gave you the same rewards - I think this might be the push you needed.

FNB PREMIER / OG PLATINUM

Not a lot of structure change here - we still have levels - you still need points to move up levels. Same old same old.

I am just going to mention the NEW stuff they have added outside of what was there before and ill put together a list of stuff you can do to get to and maintain level 5 - this will be a personal opinion, everyones use cases are different.

What do you get with Premier:

Up to 15% back in eBucks at Checkers & Shoprite

Up to 15% back in eBucks at Clicks

Up to 15% back in eBucks on the latest Apple products at iStore

Up to R8/l back in eBucks every quarter with Engen & WesBank

Whats the new stuff I can do to get fake ebucks points that will contribute to my level?
  1. Setup and maintain limits in at least 3 Smart budget categories and access your Smart budget every month. (1000 Points)
    1. I plan on setting 3 budgets of R900 000 a month 👌
  2. Do at least 2 FNB Pay transactions (Tap to Pay, Scan to Pay or Checkout) or Partner Wallet* transactions. - 500 points on your normal card, 1000 points on your virtual card.
    1. Earn double points when using your Virtual Card for at least one of these transactions.
Only Tap to Pay transactions made using FNB Pay where you pay for your purchase using your smartphone and the FNB App will qualify as FNB Pay transactions and not purchases made when tapping your FNB card.

*Includes Fitbit Pay, Garmin Pay or Samsung Pay

  3. Use your Virtual Card on two or more streaming or online platform(s)*.
    1. 2 streaming or online services = 500 points
    2. 4 streaming or online services OR 2 streaming or online services using Virtual Card = 1000 points
    3. 4 streaming or online services, at least 2 using Virtual Card = 1500 points
    4. 4 streaming or online services using Virtual Card = 2000 points
    5. Please note you will earn half of the points when using your FNB Fusion card, FNB Credit Card or FNB Debit card. For annual subscriptions, you will only receive points for the month in which your card is used on the streaming platform.

*Deezer, iTunes, Netflix, Spotify, YouTube, Showmax, SweepSouth, Audible, Google Play, Mr D Food, Uber OR Uber Eats, PlayStation, Xbox, Google, Bolt, Checkers Sixty60

To those of you familiar with this rule last year you needed to meet some bullshit requirement to earn ebucks on your netflix subs etc - yeah that taint is still there - they didnt change it.

  4. Maintain a monthly balance of at least R13 500 across your FNB Savings and Investment Accounts that are accessible within 7 days to help you save for emergencies without incurring early withdrawal fees.
    1. R13 500 - R26 999 = 500 Points
    2. R27 000 - R40 499 = 1000 Points
    3. R40 500+ = 1500 Points

  5. Have an FNB Fixed Deposit Account and/or a Savings and Investment Account(s) with a term of longer than 7 days and maintain a minimum balance of R13 500 in the account.
    1. R13 500 - R26 999 = 500 Points
    2. R27 000 - R40 499 = 1000 Points
    3. R40 500+ = 1500 Points

My planned path to Level 5:

Setup and maintain limits in at least 3 Smart budget categories and access your Smart budget every month. = 1000
Do at least 2 FNB Pay transactions (Tap to Pay, Scan to Pay or Checkout) or Partner Wallet* transactions. USING VIRTUAL CARD= 1000
Credit Rating is Dark Green = 2000
6 FNB app transactions = 2000
Track my Reward = 500 Points
Monthly Auto Credit Card Payment = 1000
Streaming Platforms 4x all Virtual Card = 2000
Ensure Till cash withdrawl is <= ATM withdrawls - I dont do cash so easy = 1000
Grow savings by R1250/m = 500 points

TOTAL: 11 000 Points.

Already Level 5.

So in my opinion they have made premier easier because they have castrated the old gold tier to force the premier tier to be better than the gold tier. As in the past Gold was always nearly equal to premier when it came to rewards, so why pay more for premier and get the same or in some cases fewer ebucks.

So what are the rules:

  • TLDR - a lot of it is buy from their partners (clicks etc etc) - it just tells you what the maximum spending limits are that you can earn ebucks on.

ENGEN / Fuel:

  • Earn up to R4/litre back in eBucks for your fuel spend at Engen only, based on the price of Inland ULP 95. No earn will be awarded on fuel purchases at any other fuel retailers. You need to load your vehicle’s* details on the FNB App > nav-igate life > Car > Add Vehicle and have accepted the nav»Car terms of use, in order to earn eBucks for your Engen fuel spend.
  • If your vehicle is financed with WesBank (and affiliates) and/or Toyota Financial Services and/or Volkswagen Financial Services, your vehicle will be auto uploaded into the nav»Car. If it is your first time or recently purchased a new car, accept the terms of use and view your vehicle in ‘My Garage’.
  • If your vehicle is not financed through WesBank (and affiliates) and/or Toyota Financial Services and/or Volkswagen Financial Services, you will have to access nav»Car, accept the terms of use and load your car manually under ‘My Garage’.
  • You will only need to accept the nav»Car terms of use once, even if you purchase a new car, you will not need to accept the terms of use again but you are required to view your new vehicle in ‘My Garage’.
  • The amount on which you earn eBucks is limited to 20% of your total monthly qualifying FNB Fusion Premier Card, FNB Premier Credit Card and/or FNB Premier Debit card spend or a total Rand spend (on Engen fuel) of R 2 000 per month, whichever occurs first.
  • You can fill up at any domestic Engen fuel station, but you must pay for your Engen fuel at the Engen forecourt. You won't earn eBucks if you pay at the Quick Shop at the Engen fuel station.
  • An FNB Premier Linked Petro Card will also qualify to earn eBucks when you fill up at any Engen fuel station.
  • You will not earn eBucks back on any fuel purchases made on an FNB Premier standalone Petro Card or any FNB Petrol card.
  • You will not earn eBucks on Engen fuel spend above the R2 000 spend limit made using your FNB Fusion Premier Card, FNB Premier Credit Card and/or your FNB Premier Debit card. Your FNB Premier Fusion Card/FNB Premier Credit Card spend is considered first towards the spend limit.
  • Qualifying customers earning eBucks on Engen fuel purchases will not earn additional rewards for general shopping purchases on fuel purchases. Purchases from Engen Quick shops will qualify as general shopping purchases and not as fuel purchases.
  • If your fuel earn isn’t correctly reflecting your fuel spend at Engen using your FNB Fusion Premier Card, Debit card and/or Credit Card then please call us on 087 320 3200. Please keep the date of the transaction and a copy of your receipt on hand.
  • If you are over the age of 60, you are exempt from this rule.
*A vehicle excludes bicycles, agricultural machinery, commercial vehicles (weighing 3 500kg or more), golf carts, industrial equipment, air transport, medical equipment, commercial equipment, household appliances, IT equipment and office equipment.

Streaming Services - Netflix and Spotify®

  • Earn up to 40% back in eBucks on your monthly Netflix and Spotify® subscription fee when you pay with your qualifying FNB Fusion Premier Card, FNB Premier Credit Card and/or FNB Premier Debit card and:
    • You and your life partner/spouse are verified as a family and you both have an FNB Fusion Premier Account, FNB Premier Current account, FNB Islamic Premier Account or FNB Premier Single Facility Account AND your life partner/ spouse is on the Spousal pricing option OR
    • You have an active FNBy* account linked to your profile.
  • Even if you are paying your Netflix subscription in US Dollars, you will still qualify for this offer, the monthly limit of R169 will still apply regardless of the exchange rate.
  • You do not need to be on a specific subscription to qualify, however the maximum amount on which your Streaming Services earn will be determined will be limited to R59.99 or R99.99 depending on which plan you choose for Spotify® and R169 for Netflix.
* Only applicable for children under 18 years of age.

On a side note - this rule is fucking bullshit honestly - stingey bastards.

iStore (Including this as istore is now a "New" Partner

  • Earn up to 15% back in eBucks when you shop instore and online at iStore and pay with your qualifying FNB Fusion Premier Card, FNB Premier Credit Card and/or FNB Premier Debit card.
  • The amount on which you earn eBucks is limited to a total Rand spend of R17 500 per year, being 1 July – 30 June.
  • Your FNB Fusion Premier Card/FNB Premier Credit Card spend is considered first towards the spend limit.
  • You won't earn eBucks on purchases made using any payment method other than your qualifying FNB Fusion Premier Card, FNB Premier Credit Card and/or FNB Premier Debit card, including part payment using any other payment method.
  • You will only earn eBucks on devices purchased from iStore. You won’t earn eBucks on any contracts taken out from iStore.
  • You can use a combination of eBucks & Rands to pay for your transaction at any iStore.
  • If you haven't yet met the qualifying requirements, you'll earn 0.5% back in eBucks on purchases made at iStore using your FNB Fusion Premier Card, FNB Premier Credit Card or FNB Premier Debit card.

  • If you haven't yet met the qualifying requirements, you'll earn 0.5% back in eBucks on purchases made at iStore using your FNB Fusion Premier Card, FNB Premier Credit Card or FNB Premier Debit card.
Nicely broken down, my only question - what are they going to do about us poor sods who fall below the Premier income bracket & will now get fuck-all eBucks?

and some of the things you need in the Aspire T's and C's like:

  • In order to qualify for the full R150 eBucks earn, you need to have at least R150 000 in an FNB Demand Deposit Account, FNB Fixed Deposit Account (including Islamic), FNB Notice Cash Deposit Account or FNB Savings Account (including Islamic). Or have an Overdraft, FNB Fusion account, FNB Credit Card, FNB Home Loan, FNB Personal Loan, Revolving Facility, Revolving Loan, WesBank Vehicle Finance, DirectAxis Loan, WesBank CashPower Loan or FNB Student Loan.

oh sure let me just transfer 150K into that account quick for R150/M in ebucks.... sounds good

Waiting for written confirmation from FNB - the R 20k per month (gross) income bracket for the Premier account could have an adjustment made to say that R 13.5k per month (net) will satisfy that criteria.

... and access your Smart budget every month. = 1,000
Thanks for sharing... I nearly missed this part - it's now a monthly task to access the budget on the app to get the 1,000 tier points
