Hey

I used to have the Samsung Frontier S3 watch that worked just fine for recording runs and gym sessions. Recently its died (well stuck in endless restart loops) so im looking for a replacement. Im quite undecided about the brand so i was hoping some here had some suggestions or comments. I normally run on treadmills and just do basic strength training, crossfit esque or weight machines. I would like to get on the road in the future as i have a planned move to Cape town so perhaps joining a running group once there to meet people. So GPS is fairly important for the future.

What im looking at now is between Samsung, Garmin and Huawei
  1. Galaxy Watch Active 2 - This looks decent and has very good reviews overall. Although it seems like the fitness monitoring side of things isnt that great. Im not sure if that would even effect me really as ill be using it for Discovery points and general monitoring rather than targeted/focused usage of the data. Not sure about battery and GPS.
  2. I was thinking probably the Garmin Vivoactive as i do more general activities, so i assume this means something like the forerunner is a waste as thats targeted at runners specifically i think.
  3. Huawei, i have no idea about. Ive heard battery is great. not sure on the monitoring and app side of things how good it is. Model suggestions here would be helpful and comments about them in general. Especially the app and linking to discovery.
Thanks for any comments

Hey there,
I've only used Huawei so can't comment on the rest.
Battery life is great, almost 2 weeks with training +-4 times a week.
As I haven't used others I can't comment on accuracy. I think the Apple watch is supposed to be the most accurate otherwise the other high end watches should be as accurate.
I've used the the Huawei GT and the GT2e that I'm still currently using. (the first one couldn't get the new training modes so upgraded).
I paid R3.5k for the GT2e and it came with Huawei wireless earphones and Huawei scale so thought it was great value for money.
The GT2e is more sporty whereas the GT and GT2 are more professional looking. GT2e has music controller built in which is handy to change tracks mid session (GT2 may also have this function)

Awesome thanks for the detailed reply. Hows your experiences with the app, work and connect fine on android (if you use android that is)?

Why the brand limitation? I have a Fitbit Charge 4 and love it.

Not much if i think about it. I had a fitbit a long time ago and it wasnt great. It really was so long ago that it should have no bearing now so thanks ill have a look at them as well

Are you on Vitality? If so, make sure the tracker is one they accept for points, else you will miss out. They don't accept all the brands.

Side note, 28 posts in nearly 11 years might be the lowest post ratio of any user on the forum. I feel like you deserve some sort of award!

I have someone that might have him beat. @ hARRYz450F

So I have had the following:

Polar (can't remeber the model) +- 2 years
Polar M400 +- 2 years
- Both of these were "good enough", the only annoyance was the chest strap. I chewed through quite a few of those.

Garmin Forerunner 235 +- 2 years
- Great battery life, lasted about 3 weeks
- Screen MUCH better than the older Polars, you can actually read the screen in daylight
- Integrated HR sensor

Garmin Fenix 6X (current)
- Fantastic battery life, lasts over a month
- Fantastic screen (sunlight, under water, at night, etc, no worries)
- This thing has a sensor for almost everything
- Great fitness tracker, I get warnings when I get up if I did not sleep well enough

I would recommend to get something the equivalent of the 235, great watch, low weight, good battery life (if you don't use bluetooth phone integration), eg:

Yes i am. I mentioned that im planning on using this for Discovery points so ill make sure on that one.

It was hard work keeping up such a low ratio, Harry is a real expert it seems.

Thanks Valheru. The garmins do seem to be the most prevalent on all the stores and such, although i thought the forerunner was specifically for running, ill look more closely at it thanks.

I've had Garmin and Fitbit so unable to comment on another brand. The Fitbit was just garbage.

Currently using a Garmin Vivoactive 4 and I love it, has more than enough features and metrics for me. Music, golf, cycling, running etc etc. Bought my SO a Garmin Venu SQ and it is very similar, she also loves it.
