Deal Thread URL: [Sale] Asus Strix 1070 8gb
Seller: waterkoppie
Buyer: Mr.Sad_Boi
Description of Bad Deal:
Bought an Asus ROG Strix 1070 8gb on September 21st from the seller. Upon getting home
I noticed a bent bracket but did not contact seller because it didn’t affect me much(even though condition said “super”). Within 11 days i started receiving bad artifacts such as text displacement, black screen, and screen tearing. I contacted seller on 12th day wanting either money back or a replacement and was denied.

Hi

I opened my sales thread on an asus 1070 strix for sale.
In my thread i stated all the conditions ect and stated clearly no warranty due to it being more that 3 years old.
The buyer messeaged me and we arranged for him to come and view the gpu and leave happy, even played cod beta for him.

Its been 2 weeks now and last night he contacts me sauing gpu giving problems.

He asked for refund and i said sorry cant assist as it clearly states no warranty and he left happy the they when he picked it up.

If it was the same day or even 4 days afyer purchased i would have assisted him.I also explained that its an electronic device can get faulty in 1 day 1 month or even in 1 year.

This is of importance. @Mr.Sad_Boi did the card perform like it should when you picked it up? If he played COD you would have seen the artifacts, right?

When he played COD it performed as it should and no artifacts, but would a graphics card even display artifacts in less that 5 minutes of gameplay. If I switch my pc on now it’s fine but within a few minutes it’s practically unusable

I think that it would, yes. Cards I've had that artifacted all did it the second you switched it on. The point is though that you left with the card in hand, happy, and the deal did state no warranty. I'm inclined to believe @waterkoppie here. It's not impossible that it has been coming, but it's impossible to prove and impossible to know, unfortunately. I would say "risk of dealing second-hand".

Mr.Sad_Boi
Contact me, and send me the card so i can see if i can repair it.

Since it is already screwed up you have nothing to lose.
You will just have to book couriers to send it my way. I have rescued many gpu's and since it did work i should be able to help you for a small fee.

Artifacting starts when the gpu is placed under load meaning when a game or benchmark starts the gpu gets utilized and if it was faulty at the point it would have artifact in first min or 2 min and would just kick you back to windows.

I state again i wouldnt have minded if it was same day or 3 days after. You left happy and even send on whatup its an major diffrance in performances vs your old gpu.So this also tells me your happy.

I'm inclined to agree. @Mr.Sad_Boi I'm sorry, but it really does happen. Not often, but it is a risk we take with second-hand goods. I'm going to decline this Bad Deal thread in favour of @waterkoppie. I suggest you take up someone's offer to assist - maybe a bake can fix it?

I didn’t want to open a bad deal thread, because I knew the outcome would be no different than the outcome I received last night. I advertised it because I was hoping that maybe I could make some money back from a rotten deal.

I understand. However, I could not have known without the details about the deal. It could have been completely different - you receiving the card DOA, for example. That does happen as well, and is actually more common. I apologise for the outcome being the way it is, but it would not be fair to ask or demand anything from waterkoppie considering it's been 2 weeks, it had no warranty and you were happy with the deal. I will re-open your sale thread and clean it up, if you wish?

Lets say in theory if it did go my way, and he would have to repay me, there is no way of you forcing him to pay me. Yes it had no warranty and i understand that but it is morally wrong in my opinion. It also in fact has not been 2 weeks i contacted him on day 12 just to clarify things. You dont have to reopen the thread thanks, i will try getting it repaired.

I had an interaction with you and I was a buyer. I as a buyer am able to leave feedback on my interaction with you am I not? If I had a negative interaction and overall bad experience with you I will leave negative feedback. Not every sale transaction will be a positive one.

Just my 2c

If the card was purchased after 2017/10 it should still have its 3 year warranty.

This might help @Mr.Sad_Boi
Text displacement, black screen, and screen tearing is not really of description artifacts as most people know them or have seen them when a gpu is going or has gone bad, they will usually appear as random blocks, lines or triangles on your monitor. What you are describing can be caused by unstable drivers, old drivers not being properly uninstalled (use DDU), your PSU not coping with the power draw of the GPU under certain loads that is being put on the gpu, the GPU is overheating (hence it working again after the system has been off for a while)
Screen tearing is mostly caused by your FPS being higher than your monitors refresh rate.

Posting some images or video of the text displacement, black screen, and screen tearing as well as your system specs will help, or open a thread in smack talk so that the community here can help you with trouble shooting.

Hope im not breaking the rules here but I just wanted to ad this.

Closing thread as I believe this is concluded.
Please open a SmackTalk thread if you want help from guys like above.
