So... I'm in an Afrikaans rock band called Errand is Blomme (https://www.facebook.com/Errand-is-Blomme-1011492082309311/) and we finally had our first gig!
The day finally arrived! We had our first gig at the Barnyard in Vereeniging. I was excited. I was worried that I wasn't as nervous as I'd expected. Maybe playing for the last 15 years in various churches in front of 50 to 500 people helped with that. We'd been practicing twice a week for the last few months. We had been polishing the set... We practiced without vocals. We practiced and practiced.
We arrived at 5pm for sound check. I helped the drummer carry his plethora of stuff from the car to the stage. We set up most of the stuff. The sound peeps arrived and we started plugging everything in and did a quick sound check (like half of a song... lol).
Then the other artists arrived. The all did their soundchecks. The evening kicked off with a few acoustic artists and one or two people singing off of backtracks... Then we came on a 9pm.
I struggled to hear a little in the beginning, but the sound guy got the monitors a little better as the set went on... But it didn't matter... we were on auto pilot for most of the set with regards to the songs and their structure. I made one or two chord mistakes here and there but overall we had a blast!
