Epic Games launching gaming store to take on Steam

Fighting so hard to stay relevant.
They should just stick to selling to industry (Unreal Engine) and doing Fortnite.

Epic Games launching gaming store to take on Steam

So hopefully this will translate to cheaper game prices for us. It is getting to be hard pill to swallow dishing out R700+ a game.
The savings get passed on to the developers of the games, doubt they will trickle down to us :p

But also the rand is turning to poo so don't expect good savings on games any time soon

Yup subbed. Although I'm a sad Steam fanboy with T-shirt, coffee mug, tattoo and all...will take a LOT to motivate me to move.

I support this move wholeheartedly. I like Steam as well, but they do need some real competition.

Hopefully this is a well-made, well supported store.

But why? They're just another company.
Same reason I like Nvidia, Intel, Astro, Corsair (well some Corsair)... they're all just other companies - albeit some come at a premium - but I'm happy with them and feel no need to change. I tried GOG, didn't like it (in fact I rebought Witcher 3 to play on Steam when I had it free with an old GPU code on GOG). Uplay and Origin don't need further comment. I just keep finding my happy place in Steam. That said, some healthy competition is always a good idea. Pretty sure I'll still be on Steam though.

Is it just the interface you like, or is it the whole friends-list, achievements, etc.
For me it's just a store and an interface I'll launch games from. Never used the friends list, can't be bothered about achievements, although I have made the odd couple of hundred bucks selling those trading cards you get.

I'll buy the game wherever it is cheapest (which often is Steam due to their sales and their ZAR pricing) with a few exceptions, I'll sometimes buy directly from the devs to support them in a few cased.

Even when they do open this new store it ain't gonna change the prices of games unfortunately , especially if you're expecting games to become R700 or less .

I just like the store, the customisation and the interface.I don't give a rats ass about achievements. I just like having all my gaming needs under one roof. For example, I'll pay more to have a game on Steam, even if I can get it for less on Uplay.

Hopefully Epic can make a better store / game library than Ubisoft - UPlay and EA-Origin; Either of these could be cheaper and if could pay more to avoid them I would.

Most developers that sell games directly from their website aren't any cheaper than what is listed on steam so I doubt Epic's store will be much, if at all, cheaper.

steam is easy to use, thus the loyalty towards it - ubisoft version is crap - password get messed up every few weeks.

I would support more stores for use who don't have roms anymore - lol

It should also be noted that they also promise a free game every two weeks. It starts with Subnautica in two days. In two weeks it will be Super Meat Boy.

Great game Subnautica.

Cant say I like the look and feel of the Epic Games Store. Basically a page with big game pictures that you can click. Nothing more. Hopefully it will get better.

I must say the game listing page on the Steam Store is a pretty fantastic feast for the eyes, so simple yet so effective. Almost like my 2nd home. It has all the info I need on a game in one or two mouse scrolls. Like @BLaaR said that Epic Games store is a bit of a mess. Feels a bit obnoxious with all those giant pictures. The Unreal Engine marketplace might even be a better experience: Marketplace - UE4 Marketplace

I'm a simple person, I see subnautica for free, I sign up.

Does this platform have a robust review system like Steam does?
I hate that about origin... scumbag developers opting out of reviews

So , let the "games" begin.

So far, six developers have said their games will be exclusive to the Epic store for a while, in some cases up to a year. These include interesting indies like Hades and Ashen, as well as Super Meat Boy Forever, which will launch in April 2019 and be exclusive to the Epic store for a year.

Goat Simulator developerCoffee Stain Studios’ next game, Satisfactory, will also be launching exclusively on Epic’s store. Coffee Stain went so far as to take down Satisfactory’s Steam page, something that did not sit will with fans.

First-person roguelite ship builder Genesis Alpha One will be exclusive to the Epic store for an undisclosed period of time, and a planned “playable preview” that was to come to Steam has been shelved, for now at least
