Do providers blacklist phones on non paid contracts. If so, is there a way to. unblacklist if you bought a second hand contract phone that got blacklisted later on?

Years ago the IMEI was easy to change phones would rework for 1 to 6 months and then re list , nowdays people take it across borders as it works on different bands but also mostly used for #spares....

Providers will flag that phone if its involved in robberies and other crimes

Maybe if you asked to pay the remainder of the contract but wouldnt be worth it. Its illegal to change the imei. Its not impossible to do though but illegal :/

Alas to avoid this issue only buy prepaid phones or if you do buy a contract phone make sure you know the person well :p but anybody can have issues with paying off a contract. Its why i avoid contract phones.

I believe the blacklisting is only on local networks and would work overseas.

As far as ive read there is supposed to a central place that tells the sp's to blacklist said phone but it doesnt work this is overseas. Im not sure if our local sp's work together with bl'ing phones here.

To put it into perspective. A phone is blacklisted because it's no longer being paid. In other words, the guy who took out the contract broke the agreement. That's fine, I don't care. What I do care about is that the phone is suddenly not paid anymore, and what do we call something you possess that you didn't pay for? That's right - stolen. That's why we simply do not allow blacklisted devices for any reason to be sold on Carbonite. We won't even allow the discussion of how to un-blacklist it or to swap IMEI numbers and whatnot, because that's all against the law.

1. Yes kinda
2. Not unless you pay the phone's outstanding balance and associated costs

In short,no,don't buy phones without knowing their provenance

I suppose they could always be spares for anything but the mainboard at 10% value? But yeah, useless.

Not on Carbonite, they can't. Do that shit on Gumtree or OLX.

Ah yeah, didn't mean it like that. Was speaking generally.

And if one is unlucky enough to end up with a phone that subsequently gets blacklisted because the seller defaulted. Though obviously there is no way to verify whether that's the case of just a sob-story by the defaulter.

I allways wanted a 'contract or cash phone' added to the template.

Guy's dealing in phones can have someone end up with a blacklisted device because original owner defaulted payment.

I think carbs stance should be refund or gtfo in those cases. You can't be paying 10 grand only to have your device blocked 6 month down the line.
Resellers take a risk if not carefull where their stock comes from.

That's why pawnshops mostly only buy cash phone with invoice as people fraud getting a contract, insuring it, claim lost and selling phones of to unsuspected buyers to cash in twice.

That's the risk on the buyer. But yes, I agree, if you buy a phone from a Reseller (or anyone else) and it gets blacklisted, that's an instant refund.
