Just to get it out the way. I have to close my business. I've been job hunting for a month now and I haven't even been able to secure a single interview.

I have 16 years experience in engineering, from machining and fabrication all the way up to management. I have no formal qualification though and it seems that this is why I cannot seem to get past the screening process. I'm sure that once I manage to secure an interview and they see my skill set I'm sure my odds would be much better.

At the moment a management position would be ideal. I'm also not limited to engineering as my management skills could easily be adapted to other industries. I'm also a quick learner so a change of scenery wouldn't be a problem.

If nothing comes through employment in other provinces and countries would also be considered.

Not sure if there is such a thing as machining and engineering FB pages for SA, but I would assume there are people in that industry. Perhaps try that route as in trying something different for a specific audience? Else, mybroadband also, big audience.

Sorry to hear you've had to close the business Toi, I recall reading your thread some time back & seeing that things had seemed to pick up. If I may, perhaps look at some basics - rewrite your CV, I googled things like "2017 cv" ; "what not to put on your cv" etc, I then redid my CV, copied the content to LinkedIn, and in ~2weeks Amazon RSA contacted me via L.I to ask if I was interested in applying for a role in their CT CLoud Deployment section. Keep in mind I have no matric or I.T qualifications, but I do have almost 10years working in the industry for a few co's and in the last 3 years, for myself.

I look at my Cv & think "f, that cant be me", but word for word it is, and every bit of info can be traced via old managers/directors/etc. It all comes down to using the right words, which goes towards presentation.

I cant make any promisses, but PM me, I'v got a long time friend in the mining industry in JHb, he may have some contacts for you.

I would highly recommend getting a Linkedin Profile up and going, if you don't have one already.

It will then match your current skills to any open jobs that match - works really well.

@Toi moved your thread to Work section :)

Goodluck for the hunting! I will keep my eyes and ears open for you :)

I sent you two PMs, forgot my email in the first.

This thread just messed me up, hell. @Toi I'm keeping eyes and ears open. I kept pushing your number to all people I knew who had engineering needs in the area, but I knew it would not have been enough. Hel ek's jammer man :/

Thanks man, I really appreciate it.

Yeah I have not posted anything in my other thread yet as I'm still kinda not feeling like officially closing my thread on that note. I really hoped things would work out.

But it is what it is. I still think that my story will have a positive twist somewhere, might not be in my business but in other ventures.

Its not a complete loss though, I gained a wealth of knowledge and experience that will definitely be carried over to whatever I do next. I lived and breathed the saying of what does not kill you, hurts like hell but you will come out stronger.

Guys how do I go about seeking employment in Aus or NZ? Are there local sites that I need to visit or should I search on employment sites in Aus and NZ?

Yeah that's exactly why I thought of looking abroad. Like I said to my wife this morning, do you settle for a decent job here (if you can get one) or a job in a lower salary bracket abroad?

It may be a lower bracket salary but your quality of life would be a lot better.

Also you're likely not stuck with a lower income salary for life. You can always work yourself up.

But yeah you do have a point.

Thanks man.

My cousin immigrated to NZ in 2014. He couldn't be happier.

I'm going through his mail he sent me a few months ago as to the process to follow. First would be to get a job offer, the rest follows on after that.

They say you better off going for a holiday and looking for work than applying from outside the country...
Email a couple of recruitment agencies, let them know you will be arriving on x date and ask them if they can assist with interviews.

I tried it, I did not like it to be honest... All I can say is there are lots of SA Tannies pushing trollies at Countdown and guys washing cars for minimum wage.
It might seem that salaries are high but once u pay the exorbitant food costs and rentals you realize its not so lekker. Its okay for a single guy but not for a man with a family.

Also dont use local agencies to assist with going over. They will lie to your face as its a cash grab.
I would suggest you wait for their elections to end as when I left the anti immigrant sentiment was high amongst the electorate which is one of the reasons I came back..
