I'm starting online courses in Software Engineering and then realized my almost 10 year old laptop with hardware that's getting tired isn't going to cut it. Unfortunately I don't have much extra money to invest into buying a new or extremely powerful system. Knowing my interests I'd also like to learn a bit of game development or end up mainly pursuing it so a decent dedicated GPU is required. If anyone is willing to make a good deal or even be as kind as to donate a decent laptop toward education, that would be amazing and much appreciated! I know it's asking a lot but any offers will be greatly appreciated. If you are interested in knowing more feel free to send me a private message and I would be more than happy to answer any questions.

Item Wanted: Laptop with at least an 8th generation i5 CPU, 8 gb ram and preferably a dedicated GPU like a GTX 1050 or equivalent.
Packaging Essential: a box if shipped but otherwise no
Desired Age: N/A
Location: N/A
Willing to accept a shipped item: Yes
Ballpark/Budget Amount: As low as possible, I can't afford anything more then R2000 to absolute max R5000.

If you're going to be hosting VMs on it you'll want lots of ram

It will be used for learning and actually being able to complete the coursework. I contacted the course advisors/mentors etc and what I'm looking for is the best entry level minimum requirements that they recommend for the course.

What spec is your current laptop?

My current laptop is a 1st gen i3 with 4gb ram (i upgraded from 2gb a few years ago), integrated graphics, and a 250gb ssd that i recently installed in an attempt to make my laptop a bit more bearable and avoid wanting to throw it against a wall lol. And to top it off, my hardware is getting tired. I specifically have overheating problems with my cpu (it's not the thermal paste) and during the summer especially I have frequent shut downs. So this laptop can become a nightmare under load.

Unfortunately I got confirmation that my configuration will not work for the course.

FOr ~R2k you'll get a 2nd -3rd gen i7. Keep the RAM and SSD you have and add them to another unit. R5k for a 8th gen i5 seems very unrealistic to me, but I could be totally wrong.

I know the prices might seem ridiculous even and is asking a lot! But it is for an education and I'm hoping (more like praying) that someone out there is willing to help. The course is already expensive and it sucked when I realized I won't even be able to do it, so I really can't afford anything more for a laptop.
