Hi guy's

I am wanting to build a PC for my son but I am very out of touch with current specs. I have a 20k budget for the system.

What GPU CPU and mobo would you go here at this price point. I can figure out ram case etc.

Many thanks
Not sure if this is in the correct sub

Hi bud,

Happy to help.
I suggest letting us know what the kiddo uses the pc for. Perhaps let us know which games he plays, what screen he will be using, and if it will include streaming on Twitch or content creation on youtube as an example.

If you want to build now, you are going to run into a disaster of a time trying to get a GPU at a non-ridiculous price. Pretty much all gaming level cards are marked up, up to around double their actual value. There is no telling when it will go back to normal but it looks like at least another year. This applies to both new and used GPUs.

You can build the rest of the rig and get a "placeholder" GPU in the meantime, or get an AMD Ryzen G-series CPU with built in Vega graphics which will give verrryy low performance in games.

But overall... If I were wanting to get into the gaming scene from scratch today I would probably buy a PS5 and leave it there.

Ye thanks mate.

He would probably want to do some streaming. He currently plays Minecraft and wants to get into warzone

Ya this GPU story is an absolute nightmare.....

I like the placeholder idea until the prices drop. Will try grab something second hand off the forum.

He already has a ps4 and wants a PC so the PS5 is out of the question.

I would suggest looking at getting something with a Ryzen 3400G or the like, or waiting a bit for the 5000G series to land our side of the world.
That will get him going with some decent gaming while waiting for GPU prices to come down and stock to be more available.

I just did a similair quote this morning (case only) for under R20k.

This is with a GTX1650, not great value in my opinion considering the current pricing of new gpu's, but the best "overall" bang for buck in my opinion. Also excluding a SSD.

Ye thanks mate, agreed about the 1650 after reading up about it.

These card prices are just so nuts, even the 2nd hand market is quite high
