So I've always wanted to build a form of display cabinet from acrylic, as it is less likely to break as easily and is still see through.

Anyone know whether this is something you can buy premade, order per design, or if theres a way you can build stuff like that without any super expensive gear?

Any info on this would be appreciated. Thanks

can go to Maizeys (branch near you) or Mr Plastic in Bedfrdview and they should be able to make per specs

if you want to do it yourself, can still buy it from them and then just use some Acetone??? (right @Toxxyc @SphinxMods) to glue together

bending you just need a heatgun but it does need getting used to

You can make it, yes. It's a nightmare to try it. A single skew hand or movement and it's scratched.

The sheets that you buy does come with a protective film on it to help avoid scratching, if you go too thick then cold bending is limited to 45 degrees. Cutting it is a bit fun but with some tlc can come out very nicely.

Just beware that if you are tapping the plastic or tightening any bolts and go too tight, the hole will crack and that you cannot fix.

Firstly thanks for all the responses.

Ah I see we at least have a Maizeys in this nowheresville. I might contact them and find out what everything costs and such. I'll probably do it myself depending on the cost vs effort of everything.

Ah yes, scratches are real. Ain't that just dandy considering I have some rare genetics causing the shakes. I'll just have to wear latex gloves or something I guess.

Another random question. Would this affect any electronics? Like if they were running inside a box made of acrylic? e.g. PC/console?

same as any material you will use to house electronics

just not sure on the exact thermal properties, but yeah if you don't include intake/exhaust/airflow vents then will definitely affect it (terms of heat)

Yeah I've pretty much thought of heat. That I can plan for. I just don't want to build a housing/display piece for something that will discharge static electricity and fry my electronics.

Off-topic but free bump. How is the second post green?

Also note acrylic is hella static, so rubbing or vibrating needs to be kept in mind.

Oh, the dirty jokes I can make with that sentence.

Basically my goal with this is to protect, any device that needs airflow, from the most dust I possibly can while still looking good.
