An interesting fully remote opportunity has come up, and the company has indicated they work on a contractor model for all their "outsourced" people.
Anyone here done it and have some advice on how this works, what the contracts should look like, SARS advise etc?

Hey Madness,

It depends how they structure it, but if they do not have offices in SA then you effectively treat them as you would a private client. The contract usually defines the relationship and what is expected from each party.
Regarding SARS; You can trade under your name as a sole proprietor (Joe Smith Inc.) and make provisional tax payments twice a year. I recommend hiring an accountant for assisting you with those payments as they can be a bit tricky at first. Also keep a tab on your business related expenses as many can be written off on your tax such as internet, working space, all computer parts etc.. Software +++

Getting paid in dollars go for it... If you need assistance with your tax PM me. But yeah your expenses would be and not limited to - Cellphone, Rent (Percentage of your home space used for office use), wifi/internet, entertainment and travel expenses. Considering your provisional tax I assume you will get a fixed salary more or less.

If I may ask what job is this? My cousin works for an Australian company and sells insurance from SA to Australians
