Hey all,

So I finally decided to move over to PC gaming from console. Thus far I have the following items and needs advice and some help with this build....

Mobo - ASUS ROG Strix B360-F Gaming
CPU - Intel 9th Gen Core i5-9600K
RAM - HyperX Predator DDR4 RGB 8GB (8GB x 2) 3200MHz RAM
CPU Cooling - Deepcool Castle 240 RGB Liquid CPU Cooler
GPU - AMD Sapphire Nitro+ 570 4GB
PSU - EVGA G3 1000W
SSD - Samsung EVO 860 250GB
Case - Cougar MX330-G
Case Cooling - Gamdias Aeolus M1 1205R 120mm RGB Case Fans X 5
Mouse - Corsair DARK CORE RGB Wired/Wireless Gaming Mouse

I would like to go with air cooling as this should be optimal for me at this stage I believe.

I still need to get the following items;

  • Screen (will get this later as I have a Samsung FHD 60Hz screen)
  • Keyboard - Need to get one - MX Browns is what I'm looking for
  • Additional HDD's - Need to get some storage as well

Then one more thing, I have a NAS with 6 X 3TB drives, can I store my games on said and play from there?

Games I tend to play is:
  • Rainbow Six
  • Division
  • Destiny
and so forth, mostly FPS games.

I also have a set of Astro A50's that I used on my PS4, so I will plug these into the mobo as it has an optical out.

Any suggestions, help and so forth will be appreciated or maybe something you ain't using no more :)

Pitty, would have been great to use my NAS.

My drive is a SSD.

Cooling will be fan cooling, my gaming space is in an open plan ventilated and cooled room if that helps.

additional drives you dont need now
Do you have a tv? can use as monitor if need.
Mouse and keyboard - not very important nopw - i went wireless k63 and corsair dark core - this can be done later and depends on budget

1)ram
2)cpu
3) figure our how we gona do cpu cooling and then case cooling - you want to do this once
4) maybe run nvme for boot drive and ssd for games?

Catch you on division some time - spaceranger_za

Yeah I have an old monitor I can use in the interim. Mouse and keyboard I'll get at a later stage once the pc itself is done.

1. RAM 16GB I think is minimum to go with now, not sure what to get here
2. CPU i7 7700k should work well especially if I get a GTX1080ti later
3. CPU cooling i thought of one of these MSI CORE FROZER L (CORE FROZER L), Nickel-plated Copper Base and Fi..., case cooling will be with two fans front, two top and the rear, should suffice?
4. I'll use the SSD I have now for the boot drive and the get two 2TB drives for games and so forth?

Yep I'll opt for 16GB and then later another 16GB possibly so in total have 32GB then. Wootware, damn never thought of them.

Where was that link....
here. This will prove how many fans is ideal in a case setup.

Definitely 16GB minimum now.
i7 7700k will be great, just need to find a great deal on the forums here.
I feel the SATA SSD will be fine, I have no issues with mine, it's still miles faster than HDD for boot drive.
Yeah, 2 2TB drives will suffice, you could probably get away with 1 if you don't store a lot of games

Keep the Samsung 27" FHD you have and use it while you have the AMD RX 570, get the new monitor around the time you get the GPU.

Thanks I'll watch it now [emoji16]

16GB it is [emoji106] yeah there is a good priced i7 7700k on the forum. SSD for boot should be perfect for now yeah. I'll get 2 2TB drives just to be on the safe side.

Cool I'll keep the monitor for now and once I get a new GPU I'll get a 144hz monitor.

For the entire build?

Give a budget for the entire build (incl. monitor, 1080Ti that you will get later and peripherals) and a budget for just the build you are doing now
That will maybe allow people to lookout for good deals on GPU's and monitors as well

Yes for everything that you still need

Well I will say budget per item is as per below;

- CPU - R6000
- RAM - R3000
- Mouse - R1500
- Keyboard - R1500
- Additional HDD 2 X 2TB @ R1500 ea

I will say around R15k to R20k to finish this build

And the monitor? That budget for the CPU and RAM is way higher than it needs to be. I’ll give you some recommendations. Any preferred color scheme for the build?

I'd say for an entire PC build with a GTX1080ti and a good 144Hz screen, around R30k to R40k.

For this current build, R30k should suffice and get me the following;
- CPU
- RAM
- Mouse
- Keyboard
- HDD's
- Desk and chair to place it all on and play from.
- some games as well :)

Missed that one, monitor will be around R6k to R10k

Whats the suggested budget for CPU and RAM?

Color scheme is black as the case & current monitor is black and red/blue lighting

Will work on something and post it a bit later. With your budget you could even ditch that motherboard and go for a newer chipset. Will work out two options for you

The board is alright but it's an old chipset
I haven't been in the loop very much as I'm still managing on a i5 3470 for gaming.

What does changing the chipset improve?, if you are going for a CPU that supports the older chipset?

It’s just about future proofing. He will manage with a 7700k on that board for sure but three to four years down the line it’s going to be upgrade time again.

Can’t see you maxing out any newer titles on that 3470. That thing is noah’s ark old now :p
