hi Guys

i was hoping for some advice on where to buy a cleaning kit for my desktop Computer as well as peripherals.

also i wanted to buy a mini compressor to clean my desktop for 169 as oppose to the compressed air cans which cost like a 100 bucks.

any advice ?

I used a vacuum cleaner to suck out all the dust/dirt, it worked, nothing got damaged but was probably the worst idea ever.

Take it to the petrol station and use the compressor there. It's free :)

i would rather not walk to a south african petrol station with a +- R40k PC :)

Some vacuum cleaners can do reverse (blowing) which is pretty handy. You might wanna check yours.

A machine used to suck up shit all day used to blow clean air..... I'd wager my money on a brand new one sure, but old Hoover sniffing in the cupboard... hmmm

If you do decide on the air compressor you'd have to shell out more than that. The ones your thinking about at the tire shop, forget it. Yes the can bring up 5 bars of pressure, but have practicallt 0 cfm so no stronger blow than you and a straw. You want an airbrush kit one

Oh mine uses another socket for exhaust so the air is not blown through the dust and dirt that was sucked in earlier. It is basically clean.

So I thought too, till I decided to dust myself after having a bit of an oopsie with a pile of leaves I tripped backwards into. Well that's my old shitty one with a socket too. It has seen better days

Some of the scariest stuff I have heard of yet...vacuum cleaners and paint brushes have been the death of many a pc. I would rather have dusty pc than a dead one.

If i clean my pc with all my OCD hitting me at once, i disassemble board etc everything out of case. No risk of ESD, wash and wipe everything inside and outside pc case, compressed air to clean all fans and heatsinks. You need to make sure your fans dont spin when you run compressed air over them else you could end up damaging bearings. Once all done, reassemble, make sure cables are all neatly tucked away and improve on previous assembly, and be happy.

PS. Positive air pressure from case fans keeps things cleaner for longer :p
Boooya

Advice on cleaning, get one of those small blowers...do not use vacuum

I must say that having been in IT for almost 2 decades i have never had an issue with using a paintbrush to clean components.
