Condition: The hinge broke, it is a common problem with these laptop models. Otherwise the laptop is working 100% without any issues.

As for what happened in more detail,
The Laptop was not dropped, nor was there any critical moment, just a routine lid closure where the hinge decided it had enough turning and resisted closure. I tend to handle my equipment gently, so even with a slow lid closure, the plastic mount point just popped out. Given that the rest of the case is the very sturdy aluminium, it seems surprising to then to have plastic components for the hinges to connect to. The hinge is strong, but the mounting for it is not. So the hinge is still working, the issue is with the plastic mounting that broke but it can be fixed. Unfortunately the warranty offered from the supplier does not cover physical damage.
