I started developing mobile web sites when I was in Grade 8 and slowly throughout my high school year began teaching myself programming.

After I finished grade 12 (2010) I instantly got offered a job and have grown to more senior positions since then without any degree or diploma.

My advise would be to start learning today, if you're passionate about IT it will also be fun. Perhaps have a look at some professional cyber security guys on youtube IppSec and get a feel for the work they do. If you have any questions send me a PM.

If you're serious about learning anything to do with Development I'd be open to sharing my Udemy account with you. I've used it to give my brother some courses and I'm willing to share it so you can have a taste of it.

Do you have IT as a subject as school, and do you have any programming experience? Is University an option or are you looking at a Diploma/Certificate?

A bit of an aside, but if you do want to get into programming, I'd take a look at grammar and punctuation. Reading your post I can understand what you're saying even though there are MANY errors. However, in programming, badly written code with punctuation errors will simply fail.

It also wouldn't look good on a CV if that's how you write.

As for your question, you can try Udemy, Pluralsight and alison.com for online courses.

Get that mathematics mark up.

I am not in the IT field, however looking at the jobs offered in the financial market, the majority want 70%+ for maths. The reason why I mention this is because BSc Computer Science and BIng Computer Engineering are heavily based on mathematics.

My friend studied Computer Engineering at Tuks and he definitely has future job security (he completed his undergrad, honours and masters). A guy that studied with him only completed his undergrad and landed a job as an ethical hacker. Definitely a degree you should consider, however it is not an easy one at all.

To sum it up, get your maths mark up.

Being in the financial sector you can not go wrong with anything in the AI and Data Science field.

These are in high demand and will not go away as the world continue to change. These days the edge a business has over another is based on insights and how they use that to create products, services and opportunities.

But, for AI / Data Science careers you will need to get that math mark up.

Just reiterating what the others have mentioned: Maths and Science marks matter for studying IT at Uni or Tech.
As far as I can tell, the actual math isn't that important, but having good marks in math shows that you have a solid grasp of logic, hence the requirement for studying IT. Anybody know what the entry requirements are nowadays?
Here is a taste of the costs involved: https://www.cput.ac.za/academic/fac...OT0xPR1k6IEFQUExJQ0FUSU9OUyBERVZFTE9QTUVOVCA=

I suppose for anything cyber security related you would probably have to start off with doing some kind of studies in IT. From there you can specialize in any direction really.

Of all the colleagues and friends that I know that work in IT, only 1 was able to climb the ranks with zero studies. It is very hard to get a foot in the door without having the papers, even if the papers are fundamentally meaningless. Being a self starter and making a success of it is hard and to all of those that have achieved it, I seriously tip my hat. Much respect.

EDIT: FEK! saw too late this was a necro :(

I went in a different direction. BSc (Physics & Electronics with Legal Theory) LLB. Also did chemistry, comp sci, maths, stats.

Math is important whether officially through courses or through general 'upskilling' after hours. Also, cyber security (a friend is a Prof overseas and specialised in it) means different things to different people but largely doesn't involve waking up to the CSI soundtrack in the morning.

You're young though so may find that by next year your interests have changed (I think matured is a better worth though because its a process of development as you know and learn).

He should be done with his matric or grade12 now, maybe he can update us on what route he ended up taking.... o_O

Wahahaha my bad! I was so sure I didn't see the post before and then never read the date. However, now I am very curious on what you ended up doing @Acorns84

Aside from Udemy you could also give www.freecodecamp.org a try to learn coding, Udemy is a good resource and there is a lot of good courses.
I started with a few of the free courses that @lowracer posts. I have also bought a few courses on Udemy that where R180 and I must say Dr. Angela Yu on Udemy has some excellent courses if you are a complete beginner. Go have a look and get a feel for it.
