No.
Scammers and con artists tent to be "nice guys" anyway.

The only full proof way is a fully fledged buy and sell agreement (contract) with a clearing system like a lawyer's trust account along with the middleman being able to test and verify the contents of the transaction. Not to mention verifying the claimed warranty. That's no longer a free community classified. That's a business, an expensive one.

Use common sense, do F2F deals where you can and accept that there will ALWAYS be a level of risk involved. Only you can decide how much risk you are willing to deal with.

The only thing you really need on carb is an active cellphone number... I'm sure there are multiple APIs to test if a cellphone number is valid? Will have to look into this.

So a verified user should have/supply the following:

- 10/25 iTrader count with 0 neutral or bad deals. (You should not be able to become verified without dabbling on the platform imo)
- Photo with you and a paper with the date and your user name on. (Sent only to whoever does verification and attached to your profile.)
- 'Valid' cellphone number. - easy to buy a RICA'd SIM

Then you get a little blue tick next to your name.

I'm SUPER keen on a verification system for Carb.
I only broke into the 20s last week... 😢

You will never be able to 100% guarantee anything. Even with a contract... Someone could just go against the law and do what they want anyway?

Stating that some high iTraders users also cause nonsense, does not void the entire iTrader system. Obviously common sense is king. But the more detail/info you have of someone in a potential deal the better.

Some of us don't have an issue shipping and doing non f2f deals. So anything to get another layer of peace of mind is worth it imo. I even use post count as a metric sometimes.

The verified tick would only indicate that some checks are already done for you, that is literally all it can do...

Adding to the above:

As I've said, I would love a verification system on carb. I spend way too much time thinking about solutions for this... But there is no practical way to implement it. A bot would only be able to verify basic info, and having a person involved would add a crazy amount of mod/admin time. So it would just not work...

Verifying users will always be the buyers responsibility on any classified platform.

I am all for forcing users to post a picture with the date and their username along with the items they sell though... At the very least, you know the actual item exists then. Many of us already ask for this when doing deals. It would just skip that step and make it a bit quicker. :D

I did an instant EFT to you with hopes and dreams o_O I'm glad I got to meet you though man. Very happy with both deals end of the day. Proudly showing them off in my signature!

"Over the last 16 months, as I've debated this issue around the world, every single time somebody has said to me, "I don't really worry about invasions of privacy because I don't have anything to hide." I always say the same thing to them. I get out a pen, I write down my email address. I say, "Here's my email address. What I want you to do when you get home is email me the passwords to all of your email accounts, not just the nice, respectable work one in your name, but all of them, because I want to be able to just troll through what it is you're doing online, read what I want to read and publish whatever I find interesting. After all, if you're not a bad person, if you're doing nothing wrong, you should have nothing to hide." Not a single person has taken me up on that offer.

You know you guys say all this but every single bad deal where transcripts get posted I could see it was gonna go sideways. Someone too eager. Nowhere near enough due diligence.

Every single deal I've done has had at least twice if not thrice the amount of communication save for one when I dealt with a really high high-trader user very active in the community (who is still in high standing). Not burned yet.

I mean ok, some people might not want a big chat, but that kinda makes me twitchy and I'm likely to kill the deal at that point.

I honestly can't believe these people who get scammed expected things to go smoothly in the first place.

Basically what I mean is the school fees could have been avoided long before people started suggesting some rather Orwellian practices. So kindly stow your 1984 please guys.

Hypothetical question:
Would you still use this forum if it required you to do a short YouTube video (face cam) telling everyone a bit about yourself ?
No, so I can continue to hide in my cave, in peace from humans

Just a quick question, what the hell is up with some of you people?

You want someone to make a vid to introduce themselves to the forum? That a big red NO from me!

Then there was that dude who thought giving out your ID number to every random on carb would be a great idea....

Do you just not value any privacy at all????

Think about it this way, post-millennials have been brought up in a world were privacy doesn't exist and your data is just another product that can be bought/sold. They simply don't understand the concept of privacy.

Don't check post count. Check the actual emails. Are they just shop talk or shit posting? Have they tried to help anyone or tried to put down roots in any ways? Do their posts show a certain level of intelligence? Even just 10 posts can say a lot about someone's attitude towards Carb and therefore how committed they are to staying. Probably even more info to be gleaned from them too.
That's the thing about Carb, there is already A LOT of info out there that can help you make better decisions, much more than for any other 2nd-hand platform anyways.

Nope, I'm not putting my face out on the internet, if I have a choice in the matter.
