Hypothetical question:
Would you still use this forum if it required you to do a short YouTube video (face cam) telling everyone a bit about yourself ?

Motivation:
I was thinking about a solution to the problem that Carbonite and other forsale-forums have around anonymity and the scams that can result from it.
What we really need is trust and accountability right.... requiring users to do an intro YouTube video where they share their name and a bit about themselves would, in my mind (disclaimer: which may be under the influence), drastically reduce the amount of fookers who spend their time scamming members out of their hard earned cash.

Your feedback is appreciated.

I would probably only decide once I've watched a bunch of other people's submissions.
My leaning is towards no though.
Honestly I still get twitchy giving people my name once it reaches that point in a deal and then I have to give my address too even. Feels like it goes against everything I was taught growing up about all the boogeymen online. As much as their anonymity protects them mine also shields me from them doing worse than taking a couple of school fees off me.

I don't want the whole community perving on my face, getting pervy calls in the middle of the night.
Nobody has time for that.

I understand the need for this, but no I wouldn’t want to.

A fool and his money is soon parted. It should be common sense, do not send money to someone you don’t know. Meet them face to face! Yes you might still get scammed that way, but the chances of that happening is much smaller.

No...I am extremely happy knowing that the whole world does not know who I am or have easier access to some random info about me. I value my privacy a lot, and as such, I haven't even used my fb page in years. I'm more than happy to flesh out the 'about' part of my account on here if required though. And if I give you my number...you have a small chance of seeing my mug as a profile picture anyways. If a YT vid was a requirement, I'd probably miss Carb a whole lot.

That's a negative from me.

With all the issues with scams and bla bla it all comes back too
" use common sense "
There have been so many suggestions to curve this but the basics are still not being followed.

Still 0 itrade users buying from 0 itrade and getting scammed and then coming and complaining.

Having a face can does not identify the person unless you have an Id copy of people to attest it is in fact the person.

So even with that people can still and will find loopholes.

Here is what I think the procedure must be:

1. After joining carb you have an option to be " Verified " (Carbies can opt out to not do this)

2. The verification process will work as follows. You will have to make small video about yourself in which you state your name, ID number and repeat a special code given to by carb to authenticate the video (to make sure you dont use someone else's video)

3. Your will submit a form of identification (License or id or passport)

4. After the ID and video match up you will receive a little check mark net to your name to indicate that carbonite knows your full name and ID number

This data will only be seen by the admins or who ever is the person verifying accounts.
This should be optional and no one should be able to see this data except in case of criminal offenses

All thats needed is some common sense and logic. Any successful business is ontop because of logic and not emotion.

PayFast is a registered financial company allowed to take IDs. You have to apply for this right. It's actually illegal for any random person or company to ask for anyone's ID, as stipulated in the Identification Act 68 of 1997, Section 21 (Secrecy).
