Carbie Car Guys!

Sup all the car lover's. I have a 1998 Subaru gf8 unfortunately still Na. A lot of plans but no funds lol. High on list is a eg33 swap. Stuff done 2006 WRX STI mags and struts. 2000 WRX STI super light bonnet. Duel range 5 speed box swap. 25mm sway bar upgrade. Nothing special

Can't believe I hadn't seen this thread before.

Currently rocking out in a 6spd M/T M235i, slightly modded.
Before this was mostly a crap load of Audis, and before that a few VWs, Renaults and an Opel.

The supra (new but previous version) was on sale at ZAR 660 000.

Why this car? Just curious
Because the Supra is a BMW Z4 wearing a Toyota badge.

The Yaris is also enormously more fun. It's a manual, turbocharged, four-wheel-drive, limited-slip-diff-equipped hot hatch that weighs less than 1.2 tonnes. What's not to love?

the price tag .... I personally feel no toyota is worth that.

ZAR 882 000

Plenty sold and pre loved(in the out back) still has good resale

I get you. It's a helluva lot of money for a car, let alone a small Japanese hatchback.

But...

You can look at it the other way: it's a helluva good deal for something that's better to drive than a Golf R, an A35 AMG and possibly even an M2 (depending on your persuasion), all of which are more $$$ than the Yaris.

On your 'R700k for a Toyota' point, the Supra cost more than that when it first launched. With that figure, you're barely scraping the bottom of the Land Cruiser Prado barrel and you're nowhere near a Land Cruiser 300 or even a plaas-bak-spec 76.

I totally get where you are coming from, its a small hatch back rocket.
and it should retain its value.
I cannot fathom having such a car - a car that literally costs the same as a small house in certain parts of SA.

Reminds me of something I once heard:

"Yes, you can sleep in your car but you can't drive your house!"

Nice!

But is the red one dirty with diesel soot at the back? That seems to be a tradition for 1.9 three-door Polos and Ibizas in South Africa...

I'm curious. Where did you hear that? Was it out the mouth of a person that owned a house and saw the value in appreciating assets? Was it perhaps a millennial or a teenager?
That's some horrible mantra for anyone to follow :D

800k for a Yaris? Essentially those little cars all over the place, albeit somewhat dressed up a bit, that looks like a South Easter will blow it over?

No offense at all but... Dafuq?

These Cupras can be kak fast, I raced a black one back in Joburg in my old 135 ( It's on page 3 of this thread ) And it gave me a good run for my money from a rolling start. A demon.

Yes it is unfortunately with diesel to make it go faster you add fuel and air

Looks like a K24A1/4, 160hp? Or maybe K20A4, also 160hp.

edit - also yikes, no AC.
