Carbie Car Guys!

While the comment would fit better under the bike section it applies equally to cars. Foreign buyers are snapping up our cars and bikes. Saw an oke that acquires a GSXR 400 and FZR 400R from SA, each one went for $12300
Same with Ford escorts... Those ooms in Brakpan knew something.

I hate cars.
Is year has been pain for my race car

Round 1: Rear main seal failed on lap 5
Round 2: Another rear main seal (I made a mistake installing it)
Round 3: Ran out of fuel in the last session whilst 2s up on my time which cost me a position
Round 4: Too slow to qualify for Kyalami
Round 5: Low oil pressure session 1, filled catch can session 2, battery broke ending day early

Prep for round 6: Replace front brake lines, replace oil, new battery, pray I don't knock a bearing

I was meant to have my new car ready for round 5 but I will be lucky to have it done for the final next week.

Now I have to prep my car to try push for a top 5 in class finish for the year where I have not been competitive at a single round

Stop racing the Mini and come in that M3 in street rwd.

I prefer this option:

I have seen this,
Beautiful work, but they could have just taken a chassis from the 70's. With all the rust on the pan and heater vents if you drilled a few holes you might get the same weight as the Aluminium frame!

Something about a Beetle in silver though 🔥

Here in Alberton the just gooi a Nissan 1400 bakkie engine in Beetles

Few years back I was at TWT getting alignment done and this Hilux rocks up, single cab, not raised, plain wheels etc but you can hear the engine is not standard. Went over and yup, it was LS swapped. He was there for more tyres because it was laying waste to the ones he had on. :ROFLMAO:

A wise man once told me... "These young guys are idiots... they try to squeeze as much as they can out of a poor motor... and forgetting that with that should come an uprated brake system"

Its why I still wanna buy a Ford Ka and play CT Mario Brothers

In the 1990's I bought an F350 dually with the 300cu motor & swapped it for a Chev 454cu. So went from 4,9 litres to 7,4 litres. Redid the motor with torque cams (was used to tow a 10 berth horsebox with a Jost wheel hitch. The rear tyres were tubed. The suspension was beefed up with extra leaf springs & heavy duty shocks. I could pull off in third (standard F350 manual 4 speed box), floor it & the rims would spin in the tyres, chewing the tubes to shreds!
I loved that truck. Fire Engine Red with a white stripe down the concave section of the bodywork.

Growing up I always wanted (of all things) a V8 swapped Ford Escort mk2. Of course this never happened but one day walking in Kimberley an Escort came fishtailing round a corner with that V8 roar. Oke must have had a few changes of underwear as back up in the boot.

A friend was the receptionist / girl Friday at Ford Motorsport many yonks ago when they were still in the 'Vale. They actually helped me with my POS 5 speed Courier bakkie that Ford had added 5th gear to the input shaft, and the pins to hold it in place were cast, so they kept breaking.......... They made one out of stainless steel for me.
Anyhow - her hubby transplanted an Essex V6 into a One Six Double Oh Sport. It never got finished though. I liked the idea and did the same some years later. Got it running, but chassis flex brought a whole new meaning to "going sideways" :censored:

Bliksem. You seem to have had a lot of fun with vehicles...

Most I have done is we dropped the engine on a older 90's kadet 2.0l. It was a total overhaul, my dad sent us to an old school automotive machinist (my dad is qualified as one) and he hooked us up. I learnt a LOT!
It was a buddies car, he re sprayed it. It looked great and ran FANTASTIC!

The dumbass swopped it for an 80's golf 1 that had the golf 2 GTI engine in it. The 16V variant. Because of speed right? He then swopped that for an old CBR 600.

Last I heard the poor opel found a pavement and it was scrapped, luckily no one was badly hurt.

I've had too many cars and bikes over the years - will put a list together for this thread one day.

90's Kadett - same era as the original Monza. I had the 1.8 GLi with the digital dash - rev counter looked like an upside down hockey stick! It had a little bit of get up and go back in the day!
I remember going to Cape Town (Gordon's Bay) - the then Sheriff of Jhb had a house there & was a client of ours - Invited us down for the week from Christmas to New Year. Paper maps back then, no GPS. Never driven to CT before...... Ex was reading the map...... It's not become a meme for no reason. Landed up in Mossel Fokken Bay, running on the smell of an oil rag to find a petrol station!

My first proud engine rebuild moment was with a Vaaljapie - bought it from Benoni Farmers Supply to harrow our sand arenas. It was fine for a few weeks, then suddenly developed a bearing knock. 2 days later it chucked a rod through the (cast) block.
Eventually found a replacement block at AIM in Spartan / Isando (they were the Massey Fergusaon importers / distributors at the time) - some old toppie Zulu dude that had been working in the stores since forever knew they had one long forgotten. It cost me the right royal sum of R150-00!
Had the crank line-bored at a friends workshop where he worked, also had the head skimmed. Bought new pistons, rings, gudgeon pins, bearings, valves etc from the UK (It was a Standard Vanguard engine). When they re-assembled the head they noticed there were no valve stem seals, so they improvised.............
Fkn thing overheated every time I used it, within 10 minutes. I added an electric fan, made no difference. Eventually blew a head gasket, stripped it & saw the fkn stem seals............
They skimmed, replaced valves & re-assembled at their cost.
That was when I learnt not to trust workshops.............

I would subscribe to your vehicle history!!

Mossel bay is pretty far from Cape Town. :ROFLMAO:
Yup the one that we doctored was the "Boss" era Opel.

So my good old DS4 2.0HDI is probably nearing it's death bed relatively soon which is a shame because its now going to turn into a money pit and it's given me no real problems till now but such is the destiny for a 10+year old french car I suppose.

There were quite a few cars that were on my list originally. VW Scirocco, WRX, Arteon, S90, V40, V60 and a bunch more but after digging into all of those most of them have some serious issues. I didn't expect the WRX to have manual and CVT gearbox issues which are almost guaranteed to fail. VWs are using DSG boxes and well, they spensive to look after. Volvo ain't cheap to maintain either.

So looking at a Diesel, bullet proof reliability and I've sorta landed on a used Mitsubishi Pajero 2.4D or used Izuzu Mu-X 3.0D as best contenders for reliability. I know they are probably boring af but I have a bike for the fun times.
Not sure what people here think about them but what are you peoples opinions on them?
Also getting something like that with over 100k km? How much of that is a no-no for people?

Would love a Scirocco, Arteon or even a A1 with the same 2.0L engine but from research soo many things go wrong with them.

You can't go wrong with a Mitsu or Mux.

I, too, would love something as exotic as a German car (again) but I am not making that mistake twice.

Unless it's paid for and under a maintenance plan, I don't want it near me.

I didn't think like a normal human. It's not a good idea for me to get a car right now, I'm in the middle of getting a house. I can afford it but apparently it's not a good idea to do so until the house purchase is done and dusted.

Fck my life, I guess I'll have to throw money down the French car pit for now

Why not factor the new car cost into the home loan and pay it off at the lower interest rate?

I guess I could have done that but house has been in motion for a long time now and I'm not sure If I can just go to the bank now and be "oi! I need car".

But on the plus side, got a notification that it's been lodged at the deeds office so perhaps in 5-7 days I have a house which is way quicker than I expected. I was expecting Feb next year.
