Hey people of carb, hoping someone can assist me with a few things

So i have a 2018 Suzuki swift 1.2 GL - Currently in my dads name cause it was cheaper interest rate. Car has +-46000km and never been in any kind of accident. Never claimed from insurance also. I've had a license for nearly 4 years and I'm over 25. I travel 2km a day (work and back) and in secure undercover parking at all times.

Most of the important details out of the way, i am paying R1500 a month for insurance based on all the above and the car is insured through my dads name. (OUTsurance)

so i have a few questions.

1. Is R1500 a bit high considering the above?
2. Can i insure the car through my name even though the car is in my dads name?
3. should i even stay with OUTsurance?

You're being ripped a big one.

DM me your deets, I'll get my guy to give you a call. I went from R1500/pm to R1200/pm including R200,000 household insurance.

A bit high, my 2018 i10 Grand 1.0 Fluid costs R 1,250 a month for comprehensive.

It is insured in my name (main/primary driver) but ownership in my old man's name.

Shop around - all the little extras is what adds to the price.

I think R1500 is extremely high.
Maybe try getting Alexander Forbes, Discovery or Naked insurance just to compare.
AFAIK As long as you declare yourself as the primary driver, it won't matter if your dad is the owner.

For reference, I bought a 2011 Alfa Romeo Giulietta back in 2012, went with Alexander Forbes and got like R700 / month. I only moved to Discovery Insure because I get enough perks back from them to offset the slight increase in cost (they're like R100 more expensive).

1) depends on how much its insured for, but wont hurt getting other quotes
2) No, unfortunately the insurance has to be on the same name as the finance. You can only be a regular driver.
3) I have NEVER seen a scenario where outsurance was cheaper than anyone else. Others might have been lucky, but outsurance is not cheap.
I would say get a quote from naked via the app, you'll most likely save some money.

I shop around every year to get the best price for insurance (I takes a while to get the best price ~30 minutes per company) so book a day :)
This year for me is MiWay.

2km a day? Ask King Price about their "Chilli" insurance - it's for cars doing less tham 100km/month.

For what it's worth our Renault Duster is insured for R200k at R891/month with a R4500 excess on their "normal" insurance (not chilli).
That includes a top-up to a sexier rental car option.

Install take ctrl app, take the brolink option enjoy a nice saving :)

Get a quote from Naked Insurance.
Go to their site, put the info they need eg. Car, location etc and the site will give you a quote straight up.

Should be a lot cheaper than R1.5k

Edit: R506 pm if I were insuring the same car. R5k excess

Wow, I'm actually shocked how you Gauties are paying through your necks for insurance!

My insurance cost is a few ZAR's below R1500 and i get:
2x Cars insured (combined value +- R375 000) Excess R3k.
car rental on each car
Just shy of R800k house contents

And i had a car accident claim in Aug'19 paid out to the value of R260k where I was not at fault.
Santam direct +1

Wow that's alot of cash can go buy another car with that. Been with KingP every year when they send me an sms to say price going up I give then a call and give them a chance to match the cheapest that I find in that week. So they came close to met hing naked so I stayed. Paying for two cars just shy of 650 with access of 1500. Planning to move house crao also to them.

Yes you can have insurance in your name even if the car is not in your name, but make sure they have it as such in their books.

When I approached outSure they wanted 2000 with 3000access and the lady didn't understand what I was saying that it's more than double what I'm paying, all she kept on saying was that you get outbonus. Told her that with current insurance I get kingBonus every month seeing I'm saving myself over 1000.

Just remember short term insurance you can change this basically every month. When I first got my insurance I changed it every 6months.

ive been shopping around for a car and insurance and so far consistently the one provider that has had the lowest rates and let me choose excess has been Naked, but damn its still crazy high. Ill admit that i probably have a terrible risk profile being a single male having never owned a car before.

Maybe check out Naked. Recently signed up with them. Simple enough through the app. Paying half the amount as compared to Outsurance for same comprehensive cover with the same excess.

Not sure if anyone else tried Momentum actually, i am insured with them from past 4 years or so, they felt way too cheap when i compared to outsurance, discovery, budget etc
i dont think you go wrong with them
on top of that they are number 1 from what i heard from the call center guys when called me.
