So who else uses Capitec Bank and has noticed that anytime you try use the app or online banking after midnight it always seems to be down.

It's starting to annoy me as tonight yet again (although this time it's down for real).

So what usually happens is it just doesn't load. Happened yesterday after midnight and now again right now. Except tonight it actually states it is temporarily down.

Thoughts or similar experiences?

I've noticed this with Standard Bank also. I'm guessing this is the the time for system maintenance.
While it's an inconvenience I totally understand the importance.

FNB generally lets you log in, but some accounts will show generic descriptions on each transaction, i.e the reference will just say transfer or payment, it won't have the actual ref used.

I know on some Sundays at midnight, the app will say only limited functionality available due to maintenance

Usually from midnight to about 2 in the morning most major banks will run backups and batch processes for that comming day since thats the time where there is least strain on the systems. Its annoying to a small percentage of users so its not going to change in the future

Yeah, eventually some day there will be systems that can backup without going offline or being slow.

Highly doubt it...the pure volumes of data and cost of hardware plays a factor

Pretty sure Google is already doing such due to their size. Very very seldom have I battled to access google software.

I know you cannot compare a bank to them but it shows it is possible in the future

All banks take their app down during low usage times to do updates to their backend-front end integration.

How do you think they add features and ensure security?

Back in the day it was capable of wiping your account if used after 9PM lol.

So limited functionality is a major improvement.

Think about it this way bud. Would you rather have the maintenance run at midnight or midday?

As annoying as it might be those 1 or 2 times you find yourself needing to do transfers at midnight, it's far better then affecting thousands of clients daily at midday

Actually EDO runs start at 00:00. Some banks limit live processing somewhat until the run is complere. Each account involves naedo and aedo randomization etc etc so its an intese process. But usually done by 00:30 on quiet days.
