Hi guys, I bought a pretty nice gaming monitor from Amazon US today: Samsung LC32HG70 4K HDR 144hz. I didn't stop to think about the USA-vs-SA power though :( So I have a few questions if anyone can help please:

1. I assume it will come with a USA adapter for 110-120v. If I can source a 100-240v adapter for this monitor will I be able to plug-and-play in SA without a step-down/down-converter?
2. Anyone know where I can find the amp and watt specs for a niche monitor like this? I found the following on Amazon UK but there's nothing on Amazon US: Power Supply :AC 100~240 Volts . Power Consumption : (Max) 78 Watts . Power Consumption : (Typ) 64.0 Watts . Power Consumption : (DPMS) Less than 0.5 W . Power Consumption : (Off Mode) Less than 0.3 W . Power Consumption : (Yearly) 93 kWh/year

Not exactly sure about the adaptor. But maybe contact Samsung to see if they have one with the right conversion. Or check communica for a converter.

Bought a monitor from Amazon USA as well. The power adapter has input voltage allowance 100-240V~1.5A.

I just swapped the 3 prong power cable (that connects the adapter to the wall socket) for the South African socket type and it's working flawlessly.

Oh nice - thanks for this info. I just read this on the manual from the US Samsung site: "AC100-240V~ 50/60Hz - Refer to the label at the back of the product as the standard voltage can vary in different countries" so I'm hoping with some luck I can do the same.

I'm trying to avoid contacting Samsung if I can. But in order to use a converter I'll need to know the amperage of the monitor - so I know which converter to get. I have a converter which I use for my Thrustmaster 300RS but it's too risky to use on the Samsung monitor without knowing the amperage of the monitor. Now I'm really hoping the monitor comes with 100-240v power supply like @movaid7 mentioned above.

Just came across something though. According to this website: "There’s no power brick in the box, just a power cable, because the power supply is integrated into the monitor itself "

It's not particularly worrying, as you've said the product specifies a 100-240V range anyway, but I just thought you should know that there's no external adapter you can swap out.

Mmm you're right. I did read that review. Ok so just gonna have to hope it's 100-240v 1.5A. I'll mail Samsung and Amazon in the meanwhile. Thanks for the heads up.

No problem :D
Looks like a beast of a monitor. Hope you enjoy it!

Thanks :) the integrated power supply could point to all units being 100-240v 1.5 - hopefully. Otherwise Samsung would have to produce units with different integrated power supplies. It makes more sense to mass produce 100-240v units and provide the cable applicable to the country. I mailed Amazon in the meanwhile anyway.

Yeah, it does make more sense and I'm pretty sure it's standard practice to ship devices with power supplies that are region independent.

I contacted Samsung USA support live chat - very good support. All these units ship with internal 100-240v 1.5A power supplies and 2-prong plugs. That's awesome news - looking forward to this beast coming home now :) thanks for your help here.

Good you confirmed because I was shopping for an A/V receiver on Amazon and they are ALL 110V only :(

That's more because USA runs on 50hz rather than 60, AVR's use transformers and not switching power supplies like most modern electronics so can't cope with the frequency change.

Thanks guys - worked perfectly. The bundled cable would need an adapter (not a converter) so I just used one of my spare cables.
