Hey guys

Does anyone know of any music stores in Durban that sell acoustic guitars in the R500 price range. I know it's alilttle low, but I can't afford much due to studying fees etc.... Any advice on that.

Thanks

For that price, I recommend you check out Gumtree and OLX. You're not going to find anything decent new.

I second what @Foxhound5366 says.

One thing I've learnt the hard way is that a cheap instrument (piano, guitar or drums in my experience) is often a waste of money and is harder to use, especially if you're not "musician level."
Rather go for a second hand branded guitar and I know it's tough but try to spend a smidge more. It'll take you much further in the long run. 🤘

I bought a Sanchez guitar at Cash Crusaders here in Cape Town. It was selling for R899 but had one broken string and the battery in the guitar was leaking and corroded so I spoke to the manager and offered R500, we negotiated and I got it for R550. They are often willing to negotiate if you can find something wrong with it or if it's been sitting for a long time.

I know Sanchez isn't a fantastic brand but if you're just looking for something to learn on or jam with your friends, i would recommend it.

I also play on Sanchez, a very good product for my money.

Rather save up R1500 odd and look for something like a Cort 70E or an Ibanez V50NJP-NT - A guitar that will satisfy even after you've progressed as a player. My guitar tutor has the Cort, and he favours it over all the others in his collection.

My 2c: Don't hamper your progress with bad equipment. Rather save a bit and do it right. It's not at all fun playing on 3 metre string action and wonky intonation.
