HI All

i am building a light saber, i have the hilt done and theyblade coming in.

i need some adviceon the LED's im looking at getting 2m LED strips RGB but have no idea how to power them as i want it done from a battery/ powerbank 5v.

any one on here that has any knowledge on how to do this would really help.
I do remember that there was a reseller on here doing custom RGB strips.

@Fox22743 is the forum RGB demigod :)

I bought a 5V standard RGB kit from China Mall a while back and it was USB powered out of the box. I modded mine to plug into the PC RGB header while getting external 5V power from a Molex.

I heard of this guy who has some experience... I believe his name was Ben..... Swolo if I recall.

AFAIK you get two common RGB LED strip types:

12V: You connect 12V DC to one line, and ground one or more of the RGB lines to turn them on. All the LEDs in the strip display the same colour.

5V: Addressable RGB strips, need a special controller to send the RGB settings for each LED. Can set the colour of each LED individually.

Note: You do get 12V addressable LED strips, they are just not very common.

You can also run a 12V strip from 5V (such as USB) using a boost converter.

Or if you want it without controller, just use the boost converter on its own:

What are you using for a blade and hilt? I've been looking for some polycarbonate tubing but struggling to find some.
I went for SK9822 60/m LED strips, but I am not planning to run it off batteries (they need quite a fair bit, so maybe avoid these) running from an arduino nano.

So guess I went the other way around, getting LED's going first, and then worrying into what to fit them o_O

I am ordering the blade from the states for like $15 "policarb". That includes the defuser and blade tip. The hilt i 3d printed the propmaker one.

Also running on a arduino nano. With 4 aa 1.2v batts. For now im going to use 30led/m and then later 144led/m and change over to 2 18650 high amp

Mind sharing a link to the blade if you still have it? was trying to order some from alibaba, but not keen on ordering a 100 at a time lol.
144/m chews +- 40w/m, go big or go home i guess ;).

As for the hilt I reckoned I'd go old school, aluminium tube with a few o-rings and wiper blades stuck to it. Got a capacitive touch button, so planning it to be more a table lamp than anything.

Light sabre or Lightsaber 🤓
I'm being a dck.

GL with the build, dude! Keen to see it.
