BMW M2 Competition

...For your pure Motörhead who likes to abuse a car and do doughnuts everywhere ... I get you now ... Yeah im not that kind of driver. Dont like abusing my stuff at all ...or doing doughnuts :) ... and neither is that what i think a motorhead or enthusiast is. Prefer going fast in a straight line and fast around the bend ... which in that case an M2 and M3/M4 would be your thing. This is the reason why i cancelled my order on the M4 when they launched. Last M car i had was a 1M in 2013 (had 8 M cars so far)... the newer turbo M cars are different, and i think that is why you have those two camps now ... and the reason also why the older M cars are appreciating in value for the most part

Did not drive the M2 comp but have the M2 and a few 718s. Was in the market for a new car for the wife at the time ... 3 month wait at the time on a competition and i thought "eish" and i didnt

A 718 boxster s or cayman s will be quicker than the M2 competition on a straight line or a track. So its brutally quick ... hence why when you mentioned a 991 gts ... i was like no ways. But i get you , you not talking performance but more fun factor in terms of going sideways ... and agree then M3/M4 and M2 is the weapon of choice. We all different with varying opinions on what is "nice" ... thats why these options exist in the market place ... else everyone would be buying Hyundai i10s :)

edit: the M2 comp of your looks far nicer than the wifes 718 sitting in my garage :) ... plenty of happy and safe miles!

I get you 100% now and why it wouldn’t be for you. I’m a rear wheel drive junky and love the tail hanging out when I drive. So yes 100% that’s why I love it. If you say you’re the straight line super fast guy, I would imagine you would love the M5 actually :p or just R8 V10 Plus all out. Simply love the sound of the V10 in that Audi but for me I got bored, not enough playfulness and no doing late night doughnuts at Steyn City circles :(

Hope to teach you the ways of drifting one day bro! Many safe miles for you and your Mrs!

Ps. I’ve switched between 3x M4 Comps and a C63S as well as the Edition 1 as my drifting toy that’s how indecisive I’ve always been. So if we comparing apples with near apples I guess I would say this M2 Comp is better than my last 2 mention we can leave the Porsche out if it because it is my next one for sure I can’t resist now that I’ve gotten a bit older  and I cannot resist those new screens in them.

I haven't driven a Porsche yet either. How do you feel about the 4 vs 6 cylinder argument for the 718?

I drove the 718 GTS... NO SOUL but it's a comfortable daily for a 2 seater sports car.
The older 6 cylinder was/is much better if you want something special but it needs to be paired with a manual shifter ( the 718 needs auto).
As weird as it sounds, in some ways the Cayman feels cheap inside, the 911 is the real Porsche.
The Cayman/Boxster is their 'budget/entry level' car and you can tell.

My friend has an M2 Comp, it can't be compared to the 718/86/Mustang.

The Mustang is great bang-for-buck for Americans, over here it's not worth the price tag unfortunately.
The 86 barely compares to a GTI. It's an MX5 competitor, it's about fun not power/speed.

I love BMW's but car prices have gone batshit crazy sorry to say...
Find a good 2007 E320CDi and drive it to a million kilometers plus which none of these new cars can do.

I would love to know, what bank did you rob?

So BMW fell asleep at the desk one day and authorized someone to design and create a jaw dropping, proper sexy coupe.
I think it's one of their finest cars ever made.
People say the wheels are ugly but I think they are just different and will likely start the next trend in aftermarket wheel design.

Ladies and gentlemen, get ready for the best looking modern sports coupé:

Mate of mine had the RS6 and traded it for a Roush Mustang. He enjoys it so much more than the Audi at almost half the price. Really impressed with the Roush and never knew you keep factory warranty. Never an american muscle car fan but must say the supercharger makes that car very appealing.

I find Audi a little too German. There’s nothing wrong with it and that’s the problem.

I’d love an Alfa but that’s a case of too much wrong and the heart taking over the head.

Jeremy and Richard both agree that the Mustang is flawed but an interesting and enjoyable car. It’s flaws make it interesting.

I look at the Audi range and think “what’s the difference between each one?”

Just slap some M2 competition replica wheels on your current car and you've basically got an M2 Competition right there. Everyone has started doing it.

What I dont understand these days is people swapping OEM rims from different brands onto their cars. That looks stupid IMHO.

I’d rather do that then stick Chinese knockoffs on my car - that’s dangerous and looks shit.

It can work, especially if you have the wheels resprayed.

I would not buy replica wheels to start off with in the first place. Plenty of options out there to go with if you are looking to replace your stock wheels.

Ill buy a 2nd gen GTR for that price;)

I’d probably still take the M2 Competition over a GTR to be honest. I know the GTR is a monster but I don’t get the feels for it. I don’t get the feels for the R8 either. Same goes for the Vantage V8.

The M3 does it for me, as does the Jag F-Type and the Porche GT3.

Oh man the F-TYPE V8 is just breathtakingly gorgeous

You kinda know you shouldn’t buy a Jag but if you’re only going to live once, you might as well.

I’d also buy an Alfa 156 3.2 if I could. I wouldn’t rely on it as a daily driver, never trust an Alfa, but hells bells it’s stunning.

I think the most iconic beamers are arguably the E30 M3, E46 M3 and this M2. All "Baby BMW's" in terms of actual size. Think thats where BMW hit the sweet spot, and until the 2 series (and the e82 1 Series variants) I was sad BMW might have lost its way.

I believe in balance. For every good, there must be an evil. I think this is the M2 nemesis.

You forgot the Best 1 series ever made the BMW 1 M

That was a parts bin car and probably just as iconic in terms of driving feel and emotion than the original M3 the E30.

My Fav M3 was the E92, cause it had a Screamer of a V8 that reward being ridden hard.

My personal favorite that I owned was the Z3 M Coupe. One of only 40 or so in the country with the S54 engine. That thing gave your left leg a major workout, especially in traffic xD

One of my mates Neighbour’s won an Z4 M coupe. Not sure if it had that same engine but it was marvelous to look at.

I like the Z4. It’s a solid alternate to the Boxter/cayman and looks amazing. Goes like hell with the proper engine installed.
