Hey guys,

So a few years ago I did the same as what I want now. I'm just going to handle it a bit differently this time. Thread on it is here: [Feeler] - Going hunting, who wants something? | Classifieds - Other

Last time I took orders per weight for biltong, and delivered dried biltong to the guys who ordered. I also took payment beforehand, and it kinda bombed out after we didn't get close to the numbers I wanted. So this time I'm going to take orders (and I'm going to hold you to it), but no payment until I can get what I want.

So, in short, place your orders. I'll be selling biltong at R250 per kg (dried) and ready to ship. I'll also be shooting for carcasses, so if you want, say, an impala, you pay the cost. I'll shoot it, clean it and deliver the carcass (cut to "boude en blaaie" for you).

Price list:
Impala Ram: R1,800
Impala Ewe: R1,200

Warthog: R1,000

Kudu Cow: R5,000
Kudu Bull: R18,000

Waterbuck Cow: R4,200
Waterbuck Bull: R8,000

Take note if you order, I'm going to hold you to that order. I'll let all hell rain down upon you if you tell me "yes please" and when it arrives you go "shit, sorry". I'm leaving on the morning of the 20th June.

Now, on the cost. That cost on the biltong/dry wors will include everything, and I suspect that I'm overshooting the price a little. IF the price comes down, I'll give you the option of either taking your biltong at the lower price, or I'll add more to the pack to make up the price you said you're in for. So, say you want 2kg, which is R500, and it works out to R200 per kg, I'll let you choose either 2kg for R400 or 2.5kg for R500.

The cost of the animals above is carcass weight. That means head, skin and guts removed. I'll drop the carcass off at a butchery in Pretoria, and you can meet me there to tell the butcher how you want your carcass worked. You can then choose steaks, biltong, wors, mince, etc. etc. and he'll do that for you. When I drop it off, it's out of my hands and I will stop worrying about it.

Also, I can ship. It's not the best idea, but it's not impossible. Overnight with courier is an option, as it'll last well enough if dry enough.

Finally, I'm going to put a limit in place if the orders get too much. I can't shoot 20 bucks - don't have the space to transport it all, so keep that in mind.

List of guys who's taking so far:

@Valheru - 2kg's Biltong
@nireshr - 4kg's Biltong, 1kg droëwors
@heinreich - 2kg's Biltong
@Tsakie - 4 warthogs
@Jazz - 4kg's Wet biltong, 2kg wet droëwors
@PandaAttack1 - 1kg Biltong, 1 kg droëwors
@ScorpioMan86 - 2kg's Biltong, 2kg's droëwors
@javs - 2kg Biltong
@skylix001 - 1kg Each biltong, droëwors, steak and boerewors
@DarrenR - 1kg Biltong, 2kg's potjiekos meat
@damian666 - 6kg's Biltong
@WELIHF - 2kg's Droëwors

As a PS: Kudu cow works out to "best value" so far, so that's in my sights for now, if I can get the orders up. It's also the best eating, so it's all good.

FYI

ouch, glad I don't go hunting where you go
Farmer doesn't want his bulls shot, that's the reason for that price :p

EDIT: He has Nyalas as well, but he's very protective of them. I think he is in the R50k range for them. Doesn't want them shot.

yeah that would def keep any itchy trigger finger at bay :ROFLMAO:

Any idea if one can send this overseas as a gift and the costs, say to the UK?

Not a whole carcass, just the biltong. :p

I'm going to say no. Sure, you can, I guess, but I don't think it's perfectly legal. Besides, it'll have to be very, very dry or else you're going to risk mold in the package.

Whats the delivery time, i.e. how many days until biltong available?

Well, I'll be gone for 2 days. Usually meat working is about a week, and drying another week. So I'm going to say by around the 5th of July, it should be ready. Sooner if you want it packed wet (freeze wet, dry as you want it ready). Wet will be half price of dry, as you lose about 50% of the weight when drying.

EDIT: This is depending on the amount I get. Sometimes it can take a bit longer, but I doubt it. Usually biltong is ready to eat after about 5 days hanging.

OK I'll be updating the OP with the amounts - who's looking for what and so on.

Bump! I'll update you guys in a bit, but it looks like I might have found a spot that might allow me cheaper meat, thus cheaper biltong. Hope to get clarity by end of day. Will have a week's delay though, so it will also be after payday, but it's a LOT less risk on me, as it's a fully game fenced farm, with a lot more tame game.

, but it looks like I might have found a spot that might allow me cheaper meat
If you want cheap meat your only real option would be a Eland, or even a Gemsbok can sometimes be worthwhile, other options tend to work out extremely expensive.
The other nice thing about Eland is that it is pretty much the closest you will get to the normal cow meat taste.

Yep. Other problem is transporting a 400kg carcass. And finding buyers for 400kg of meat.

From my calculations, blesbok is the best value for money buck. Also relatively low risk, since it doesn't jump fence.

All i want to know is what good meat i can get to help with shredding.... biltong and dry worse are also included for snacks and for the kids.

Ah, so you mean low fat. Well in terms of low-fat, nothing beats venison. Seriously. It's got almost no fat and very little cholesterol, and a little goes a long way. Highly recommended!

Anybody else wanting to order from Cape Town? I'd like to split shipping, I promise I won't steal your biltong :)

A friend from the UK had the same question last year wanting to take his hunt back over - if anyone has a solution let us know!

Ostrich is another lean option, my fiance makes a killer fillet in her secret red wine jus 😋
