Bikers!?

Only catching up with this thread now...
@PandaAttack1 man, if you can man-handle those bike you mentioned, anything below a 600 will have you falling asleep behind the handlebars within a week :ROFLMAO:
Depending on your status... cough.. weight... a 600 will serve you well. If the Mrs wants to tag along, a 1000 is handy of course.
Just get a Superduke and make us all jelly :p

Anyone here going to the Eagle Rally on the 5th to 7th October?
Will be my first rally that I am attending.

My dude, if I could afford a Super Duke we would not be having a discussion on what I should buy, but rather where were riding this weekend. :D

And what's wrong with that?

Looks more like a Panigale clone to me. Glad they got rid of the googly eye stroke face completely.

No doubt it'll be an amazing bike but it's lost all its identity. To me the SRR always stood apart from the others - not better or worse necessarily, just different, which in itself is good. The new bike just looks very generic.

SuperDuke MASTERRACE!!!

Sell both kidneys and get a SuperDuke R.
The bike is awesome, Puts every "Arrogant" Golf GTI, Golf R, Civic, AMG, and Audi RS's and S's in their rightful place among the car driving peasants. :p
It even startles Superbike riders, They come up thinking "Meh, Another bike that isn't a match" and then you out accelerate them and BAM, Rude awakening!

There was some poefte in a AMG GT, and his friend on a Ducati Supersport(No where near a 1290SDR in performance) that tried to take me on and then they followed me to say that "No bike has ever beaten them".... What kind of delivery bikes were they competing against before? Literally any 1000cc Superbike would make them look as if they are standing still.

I also rode my mother's S1000XR for a bit. I can't say it's bad but definitely not something I would like. Maybe it's because I'm obviously comparing it to my bike but the BMW feels as if there is very little oomph until around 6k/7k RPM.
It's still fast but it doesn't have that "Rip your arms from your body" feeling which the KTM does in bucket loads.

What about the Panigale? Is it a generic look?
I quite like the look of the panigale , I'm not a fan of the R1 and the unsymmetrical look of the current BMWS1000RR

I think the actual paint job will define it, so let's not jump to conclusions too quickly.

Exactly this by that comment the Panigale is "generic" and yet it is probably the sexiest thing on two wheels that I never want to ride and just park in my garage to have a glass of wine with.

I'm guessing the xr is a slightly detuned RR?
I had a very brief ride on an RR, and whilst is was fantastically smooth and refined, it is basically a 600, with way more power :p You really need to push it into the revs.
My Fireblade was way more energetic in the lower revs.. Though the Honda's are known for decent midrange.
I still want to experience a superduke. If only once, so I can ago purchase new pants and underwear.

The comparison you're making to a woman is perfect; the Panigale has beautiful curves in all the right places. The overall look of the bike is not just the face, it's the body too. Yes, the SRR looks like the Panigale in that it has a split nose with projector lights set deep, but the the way it comes together in the centre and flows down to the side fairings is so much more elegant than on the BMW.

As for the paint job, just look at how Ducati paints their bikes; no graphics or anything. The paint job should allow the design to show through, not create design where it's lacking.

You're right though; we shouldn't jump to conclusions. Lets wait to see the bike in the flesh, but I'm calling catfish.

Exactly why I didn’t buy an XR.

The motor is useless under 6k, even maybe 10k and combined with the cable clutch and my commuting needs it was terrible for traffic riding.

Slower speeds it’s just clutching clutch clutch.

Watch your dirty mouth.

I commute with it and would take it over the GS every day. There is more than enough torque in 6th to pull cleanly from 35km/h while filtering.

I commute in heavy grid locked Sandton CBD traffic too.

XR MASTER RACE!

Didn’t say it’s impossible, the Boxer motor is just more in its natural habitat with these kind of thing.

The XR is balls to the wall all the time everywhere, which the Boxer again isn’t so great at.

Fortunately for me I feel the yearning for the latter very rarely and it’s usually kept at bay through riding other bikes.

So you're saying people buy GS' to commute instead of ride them the way they should be ridden, in the bush? :p

I found that I had to clutch more with my GS in traffic than what I do with the XR.

But the bikes do serve their different purposes, the XR being a Sports Tourer and the GS being Dual Purpose. I've wanted to take the XR to Afriski but finding even 70/30 tyres for it looks to be a mission. I must be honest, I don't miss the GS.

Lets go side by side and do a 6th gear pull from 35kph and see who hits max speed first ;)

Some amazing roads Cullinans side between all the main roads.
Was just kak cold on Sunday morning though!

I don’t even think the GS can be called dual purpose.

It’s more a road bike that happens to be able to do a bit of gravel as well.

/flame suit.

Wahahaha! never seen the GS Trophy Challenge?

Don't give such a big bike to a rookie and expect them to do hectic off road though

Yes I have obviously but I’m talking about the standard spec in which it leaves the showroom floor with Joe Average.

I mean you could call it a Superbike too if you gave it to Valentino Rossi with some mods on.

By standard, you mean the tyres that need to change to knobblies?
That is about all it will need to go off road and what the local guys that does the

I love your comparisons, makes total sense :p

Yes mostly the tyres.

Put race slicks on and the same thing happens.

But you know as well as I that a dedicated off road bike can do better than the GS. Can the GS get to the end in one piece? Sure. But a dedicated bike can do it even better/faster.

I did not say it is an off roader. I was quoting your post where you said it is not really a dual purpose bike.

You are reading stuff that I never posted or said at all.

And not sure what the slicks have to do with it at all, you are jumping all over the place stating very random stuff all erratically. o_O

Slicks = the Valentino Rossi argument.

BMW themselves don’t call it dual sport. It’s called an “adventure” bike for a reason.

Oh you arguing against yourself? :p

What is the exact reason then?

BMW might call it an adventure bike for marketing purposes, but it is classed as a Dual Purpose bike is it not?
But this is quite a pointless argument and not sure what point you are trying to make exactly. As seen by the Trophy Challenge that it can do off road and on road.

LOL, you guys really crack me up.

The XR is a great bike, and i really like it. However the XR from 35km/h in top gear will take forever to get to 250km/h, as it has no torque under 4.5k, once the XR gets to about 100Km/h it will start pulling. The Superduke will also not go from 35km/h as it will shake your balls apart, and remember that the 5th gear on the SD is the same ratio as the S1000XR, the SD's 6th will do 300km/h in 6th.
The only bikes that can do the 35km/h to top speed in 6th gear, is the K1300's, Hyabusa's and 1400's, K1600, there is not replacement for displacement.

The XR vs GS argument. If you do not launch the XR from 4500RPM the GS will actually pull ahead for a while because of the torque. Have seen this and also did it.
XR on gravel is a no go. The XR's radiators burst when riding on tar never mind gravel. If they make a S1200(in line 4)GS and I will sell my GS for that bike.

Guys lets not forget one thing here. The GS and Adventure bikes are far more capable than you think, just ask Quinn Cody and Chris Birch whom both did the Redbull romaniacs with these bikes.
