Bikers!?

One thing I have noticed with my KTM 1290 SdukeR.
The tractionControl/wheelie control is quite intrusive if I try to pin it from a stand still. It moves forward but you can feel it cutting power. Methinks I need to go for that track pack option so I can fiddle with the traction control levels.

But once I'm rolling in third or fourth and a bike or snarky wannabe super car is coming up from behind... shjo my Duke hauls ass. It just goes and very little seems to be able to catch up. even superbikes, the only bikes that came past me like I was standing still has been a H2 and a Busa.

SuperDukeR ftw. No regrats :p

Super there is a riding mode that has lesser intervention? Or even a Custom one where you could set stuff yourself without needing special track pack? Or is that exactly what the Track Pack unlocks?

Funnily enough I use my Custom mode to setup my own Rain mode because I can't stand how the standard one fiddles with the throttle. Last thing you want when in the rain is your bike feeling completely different than it normally does. So my throttle is setup to be exactly like the normal rain mode but with the safety options of the regular rain mode.

Even so I only ever manage to get it to complain when I'm a little hard on the rear brake coming to a stop the ABS will kick back.

I have to say my SD 1.0 is not as intrusive. Have to say you barely feel the TC and Wheelie control kick in. It just feels like the power is limited when accelerating, you know the bike has more power bit it is not giving it to you. The Rain mode in my bike is in tense, it feels like riding a bike with a dead cylinder, you have to almost ring its neck to get anything out of it. My BMW K1300GT was super stable and had no issues in the rain, riding in the rain was not nearly as the treacherous and it gave me had a lot more confidence.

Now that i think of it the reason i did not buy the SD2.0 vs the SD1.0 was R60k at the end of the Day, and Both bikes were brand new, and in the end i am having just as much fun on the SD1.0.
@ Kyalami enjoying a the bike, The surface is so friendly on tires, think i might have actually added some rubber.

Mmm... Maybe it's just me but for some reason I read some sarcasm in your post.
But anyways, Track pack lets you have 10? I think 10 traction control levels. Lets you lift and slip before traction control kicks in.
Also gives you access to launch control.

No sarcasm at all.

Just seems weird you would need to pay extra money to unlock things that are already there and actually get disabled.

In the case of BMW that's standard out of the box. Granted not 10 levels but I can turn it off for track use etc.

I found the Dynamic mode to work just fine on the track though and didn't feel it interrupting.

Road mode does get a bit jumpy. :)

I agree, It's a bit ridiculous to exclude all of it out of the box. It's a money grab.
The 790 will have it all unlocked which is a bit irritating as it costs about R6k to get the track pack for the 1290SDuke which gives you the Traction control levels,Launch control, the ability to turn TC and ABS off.
The Performance pack was about R5k and that is the quickshifter,Electronic slipper clutch and "Motard" mode, unless motard mode comes standard, not sure. lets you lock the rear wheel.

Edit: Not that the option to turn TC off and launch control are really needed on the road. I blitzed two overconfident S3 and RS3 drivers today. Trying to challenge a supernaked in those cars was a bit dumb but oh well. They learnt.

Why is your knee so far away from the road though? Or is that on a straight? Please tell me it is on a straight and not into Turn 3 :p

Or he was just saving his knee sliders for another day

Because i was waiting for other riders to catch up. :p

It is actually the last turn onto the straight.

That Dianese shit is expensive mind you.

hahah True that!

Ahh yeah you are right. I was on that track much more before they revamped the last section. Preferred the old layout with the chicane

I wanna ride this weekend.

Will be at the Sasol Pinehaven in the morning on Sat or Sun, More likely Sunday.
I don't have a route yet but I will gooi it up here when I have got one.
Anyone who wants to join can do so.

Yeah it is a cash grab hey.

I'm miffed I couldn't figure out how to use the Launch Control on the X-Diavel when I test rode it, must be amazing.

As for the RS3's ja...that's no challenge at all even on my fat BMW. Closest I've come to losing a fight was a GTR which I'm sure I would have lost if there was highway and top speeds coming into play.

@George S

What kind or range do you get on a tank?
I get roughly 220-240km before I need to fill up, and by "need" I mean running on fumes.
I've already overestimated what range I can get on my reserve once, luckily I was on a decently steep hill so I just rolled down to the petrol station.
Funny thing though, The range indicates 350Km when my tank is full xD

I get an easy 300km per tank without trying too hard. (5.3-5.5 l/100)

If I really pussy foot the bike I can get 340km. (5.0 - 5.1 l/100)

On the Superduke I am running of fumes at about 280km, filled up on Saturday when is was riding around and put in 18.5l into the bike, i still have the slip to prove it. I have to say that the SD's fuel gauge is shit compared to the K1300GT and the GS.
Mine always says that I can to 300km on a tank however it stays like that for 50km and about 1/4 tank it doesn't know how much fuel is in the tank, as it jumps between 20km range and 50km range.

If you ride on the highway you can get about 5.5l/100 but that is keeping to the speed limit but it sucks as in 6th gear the bike does not want to cruise at less than 140kph.

With the GS I try to fill up when the reserve light comes on at that is at about 300km range.

Oh shit... So why am I getting such crappy millage? mmmm

It seems like people get around 280km on a tank in general.
I wonder if I'm getting what I am because of my daily ride of stop and start or maybe I am too twisty with my throttle?

@George S
@SauRoN
Are both your bikes mapped with aftermarket zorsts?

I have the Akra fuel map that they put on when they put the can on. I dunno if that makes it heavier on fuel?

Could be, i did not map mine yet as it is still under warranty, want to do the rottweiler performance goodies, with the exhaust and de-cat all at once so that i know it is 100% correct, at the moment all engine/xhorst stuff are stock. I am in Pretoria so the Akra mapping will not really put it 100% correct cause of the altitude.

Best to look at Fuelly for a direct comparison with others of the exact same bike.

The BMW is known to be quite efficient and frugal.

Nope 100% stock still. Historically I’ve found my bikes to be ever so slightly lighter on juice with exhaust and mapped. That tree hugger kak wastes fuel.

The reserve on the RS is very conservatice and comes on at 80 km if I remember correctly.

So when I say 300 I mean that’s when it just about hits 0 on the range. But I’ve got 17km odd past zero before and still didn’t seem to fill it up completely so who knows.

My GS constantly gets 18+ km/l, as an everyday bike the GS wins between it and the Duke.

SD not so much more like 15,5km/l

And again the BMW fuel gauge is so much better and more accurate than the Duke.

I saw the concept a day or so ago.
There are no performance figures or any other info that I could find, I didn't really look hard enough though but I imagine if its a 800cc then they are using their current Twin 800cc which I know isn't particularly powerful.
I dunno, I don't really like the look of either of them. I don't hate them but a choice between them and lets say a BMW R1200RS, I would take RS purely based on looks.

I also liked the idea of the Suzuki Recursion prototype, 600cc turbocharged bike would have been cool. But that didn't take, but the rumors of the possible turbocharged busa got me giddy like a kid again. :) will definitely have a spot in my collection.

I reckon it would be the new 850cc motor or if it is 800cc then a completely reworked one.

But it's just a concept so we'll just have to wait and see.

RS is in another price league so not really a fair choice comparison. But I do find this looking very much like a baby RS and in full production will probably be exactly that.

Looks like there might be some slot in option for a top box onto the rear that covers the pillion seat and that's something I've always wondered about as it just looks so kak to have a top box OUT THERE floating at the back.

Wish I could just invert mine to float over the rear seat and it would actually look pretty good.

Time to unwind at the track a bit this weekend! next race in August at Zwartkops. So need to get in as much track time as I can.
Glad I got tyre warmers for this weather!

Meh, it's a concept; a showcase of design ideas to generate PR

KTM 790 can kiss my ass.

And apparently it's working.

It's probably the start of a 2020-ish F850ST or maybe an F900ST to coincide with an F850GS to F900GS update.
The current F800ST is really old so it's about time it had a major update. I certainly hope it looks something like that though. It just sucks that number-plate laws will destroy that tail design :(

What is this you speak of? o_O

:ROFLMAO:
I'm struggling to find documentation, but basically the number-plate must be the rear-most item on the bike. Specifically it must be further back than the rear wheel.

It's why sexy AF concept bikes start off looking like this

...and end up looking like this

It's tragic really, especially when manufacturers include the indicators in that stupid plastic scaffolding, making it a million times more difficult to remove.

My number plates are usually uhm... quite far back I guess... Like I had on my R6!
