This is something that has become very prevalent. The number they tell you to fax to is a premium rated number and the fax costs you thousands. See below...

Dear Jobseeker

I want to make use of this opportunity to introduce our company to you.

We are operating as a human resource consultancy firm, and frequently headhunt potential employees on behalf of several of our clients.

Today I am writing to you because I found your professional profile online while searching for potential candidates for one of our clients.

Your profile falls within the parameters of one of our client's needs and therefore we are reaching out to you.

Most of the time we already have potential matches, for our clients, on our books but this time we were unfortunately not so privileged and therefore it was necessary to look elsewhere and approach third parties for assistance. This is then how we found your profile.

Seeing that this is not our own records, we have no idea how relevant the founded information still is or whether it is already completely outdated. It is for this reason then that we are making contact with you so that we can ask you to update us with your professional profile if you are currently available or interested to be considered for a new job opportunity.

If this is indeed the case we would love to hear from you and would like to ask you to supply us with the following documentation to enable us to compile our own updated file for you.

This will enable us to represent you in a professional manner when we approach our employer-client.

Needed documentation and information will be:

• A short one-page cover/introduction letter
• Your Curriculum Vitae
• A very recent upper body photo
• Any reference letters or documentation that would support your profile
• Proof of all education and/or training mentioned in the above

All the above can be directly forwarded to my desk by using fax: 0862283168

I am looking forward to hearing from you and excited about what the future might hold for you.

I await your prompt reply.

Had one instance a few years ago,our fax bill suddenly doubled, checked the telephony logs and it was faxes that took hours to deliver
One of our employees had sent their CV to these numbers
Lovely R200-R400 per fax

If you stupid enough to think a company that uses fax still is worth trying to find a job then maybe there's a lesson in there.
Well my first question was Who the F has a fax machine. ANd secondly if you could email this why dont you have a personal email box. Plus WTF can you see from a faxed Photo.

But unfortunately not everyone thinks the same..

If you go to a postnet to drop off a CUD delivery, you may notice there are still many people who use them to fax, copy, use the internet etc.

I think theres a lot of desperate/ignorant people who may not think twice about sending a CV via fax.

Dear Jobseeker
[snipped]

Umm you might want to edit the post to remove the fax number (to ensure that nobody uses it) and remove the link (it is a tracked link and I guess it verifies that you have received the mail/want more from them/something nefarious.)

People are desperate for jobs. Sometimes the adrenaline of a potential job clouds rational thought and judgement.

Got a few of these emails over the past two weeks or so. Was confused when I couldn’t find an unsubscribe link and I was a bit confused not remembering signing up to this particular service in the past. Funny byline at the bottom though.

Its seems fake obviously. There are a lot out there like this. My email is also ful with spams like this. They are trying to get benefits from desperate job hunters. damn.

The first 3 out of 10 red flags for me:

- If the email is not addressed to you, why read it?
- They found your professional profile & email address online could they not find your name?
- They mention that they are a HR consultancy firm. What are they called? Where are they based? Only contact method is FAX?
