I'm looking for a phone urgently so I'll be considering the offers and taking the best one I can get. Prefer a 2018 phone.

Buy the Nova from @VeloABF16v

That's a 2016 phone. Great phone but I figure I can get a little better for the budget. Thus far I'm mostly considering the Xiaomi Redmi note 5. Best specs and newest model from the offers I've gotten so far, input from other members about the phones are always welcome though, will likely decide in another day or 2.

True, but then look at Apple with their 2018 budget phone at $750 [emoji102]

R3500 could get you the P20 Lite with @VeloABF16v or at least close to that

Note 5 is beautiful. Really think you should go for it. Been using mine for around a month now, and all good. Only complaint is lack of a fast charge.

The Xioami phones are insane bang for your buck would never go back to your mainstream after using them. Two day battery use on mine and I listen to podcasts and music most of the day.
I have the note 4 and my wife has the 4X almost a year for both of us and both super happy.

You wont regret a Xiaomi. Best value for money. Had a 4X that I handed the wife and she loves it. Just don't get the A range though. Had the 4A and the Note 5A and they sucked

I've got a vivo v7 for sale. Quite a good phone. Still in immaculate condition.

I have a Huawei P8 Lite (2017) got it on Takealot Daily Deals and it's been excellent so far, survived being dropped a bunch of times and getting wet while riding bike in the rain and it's still kicking.

Thanks but I'll pass on this.

As mentioned above, the locally available Chinese phones (Huawei & Xiaomi) are excellent, not just iro bang for the buck, but actual quality and functionality. I've moved from Samsung to Huawei, Xiaomi and Oppo and none of them have disappointed. They're the worlds number 2, 4, & 5 smartphone manufacturers for good reason.

P20 Lite?
Out of all the phones mentioned above, the P20 Lite beats them all. Design, features, pricing... It's a retail price of close to R6k. If you can get it for R3800 then bloody hell, it's a really good deal.

Also the OnePlus devices are real nice too, so too are some of the OPPO and Vivo devices

Can confirm Xiaomi is best phone brand I've ever used. Can't sing their praises enough. Gotta love their 5% profit strategy to give customers better savings.

Thanks for all the input guys. Currently waiting for @PsychoticKing 's reply he's galaxy A6+ as this phone currently has my preference for the price, if he doesn't sell the Xiaomi is next on my list.

I would take the xiaomi over that any day. Seriously watch the review videos we are talking brand new phone that will not let you don't and keep you smiling. Anyway it's up to you obviously hehe

A6+ has quite better cams than the note 5, which is kinda a big deal for me. Probably the sole reason it has my preference right now, and I'd rather buy that (also its a 2018 phone) over a Huawei.

Have a look at the a1 camera is killer! I don't understand why you want a 2018 phone? I get the latest and all but that is an awesome phone

I noticed that, but it's out of my budget at 5k+.
I don't necessarily want a 2018 phone but nowadays with all the phone's batteries sealed, it makes more sense to me to buy a newer phone, or at least a newer phone will take preference when I buy. I don't want to buy a phone that's battery only lasts half a day within a few months of use due to it's age and not being able to swop it out.

Ah ok totally understand. All I can tell you is that both our 4x and note 4 last 2 days easy.
Now, how would these Xiaomi phones hold up when mostly browsing websites. I tend to use my browser a lot on my phone otherwise whatsapp. Those are the only two things I really use the phone for.

Well its on spotify for 8 plus hours a day. its got a 4000mah battery All I can tell you is I have had flagships and i will never go back to them

Another xiaomi user here.very good bang for buck phones. Chinese phones are taking over the market guys. In the end almost all brands are assembled in China. The new Xiaomi pocophone F1 has next level specs for a low price.
