Hey!

I'm currently living in Pretoria looking for a fibre provider that will give me the best latency possible. I'm not talking like Cape Town good ping but just nothing that will be on a constant 190+ ping. If it can range in 180 and lower I will be happy.

I am currently looking at these ISP's at the moment:
  • VOX (Line Provider Metrofibre / Frogfoot) 100mbps/100mbps @ R1055
  • Cool Ideas (Line Provider Metrofibre) 100mbps/100mbps @ R1099
  • RSAWEB [Line Provider Metrofibre] 200mbps/200mbps @ R995
Any feedback will be gladly appreciated! This will also be my first time installing fibre. So anything I need to watch out for / something I need to do, will be gladly appreciated as well.

Thank you!

Ping to where?
Ping is dependent on routing optimization and physical distance, routing can be optimized but physical distance is fixed.
My Ping to Midrand is 3ms - Capetown to Midrand is typically around 18ms

So I'm guessing you're referring to specific game servers - which game/s?

Ping to European servers, sorry for not specifying. For games like League of Legends, PUBG, Apex, Warzone (BR) & VALORANT to name a few

Alright, how come tho? What makes them stand out from the rest?
I’m with Cool Ideas after moving from Afrihost and MWEB. Their service is exceptional and the speed and stability of the line is amazing.

Cool Ideas here as well. Their support is exceptional. I have a VoIP phone (not provided by them) which they didn't know how to configure - the config they sent through didn't match any of the fields in my phone's configuration. Their techie did some research, got back to me later that day, Team Viewed in and a few minutes later I was good to go.

Ill add my 2c as well. Also on cool ideas for 2 years+- and I've never had any issues

+1 for Home Connect, no sure if they in your area. Been with them since Vuma set up in my area, support is good & barely had any problems over the years.

Think the line quality is a tad under (I mostly hit 95mbps over the rated 100 I should get) but actual downloads etc have always tipped into 11/12mbps so no complaints on them.

Thanks people for all your replies! It seems like Im going with Cool Ideas based on the feedback!

Thank you guys!

Thsoe your only options for line providers?

Anyways, Cool Ideas are always a winner. I am different, so I am with Mind the Speed and they have a support function that works. 500Mbps fibre, I cannot complain, and whenever a line fault, which is usually with my brother, because SADV/Vuma is not the best, MTS is on the ball to have it resolved and clear communication.

Apex pings:
Singapore +-125ms
Bahrain +-135ms
Hong Kong +-150ms
London Belgium 165ms to 180ms

However I reckon Cool Ideas has one of the best optimized networks and great latency across the board. Support is good from them.

So if you pick cool ideas, you will be happy, and if it is horrible, blame metrofibre.

Now, the ping response /latency to the Game servers based out of EU are high. What you need to do is to send a traceroute to the public IP address of the particular Game Server in question & ask your ISP to optimize the traffic (this can be done by Peering) - Look for an ISP which has presence in the London POP & you should be sorted !!

Guys, I cannot find Cool Ideas' email address to get in touch with them? I can log a ticket but I need to log in, but I don't have an account and there is no "create an account" button anywhere? So if someone can just tell me what their email is I would gladly appreciate it!

Thanks!

Awesome, thank you so much for this info! But what exactly does POP stand for? Sorry, I'm not very up to date with networking terms lol

I would avoid rsaweb like the plague as they support don't do much and as most of the stuff ain't theirs they always chasing ip with proverbs and not really fixing the issue.

Dont have xp on the others as have never used them.

Okay Thank you, but I have decided to go with Cool Ideas based on the feedback I got from them on this thread.
