Bad News for Anyone Wanting ASUS RTX 30 Cards

its not just Asus, I can confirm i have recieved the same info from other distros as well. irrespective on brand of gpu.
some are mandating a full pc build to be able to include the GPU.
and thats IF and WHEN stock becomes available.

Gigabyte is currently in discussions. MSI has no plans as yet.

What would the guesses be on what happens on existing pre orders ?
I have friends who ordered last year who are still waiting.

Nope, forget it. For Asus specifically the distribution chain looks like this:

Asus HQ -> Asus ZA -> ZA Distributors -> Retailer -> End User (you).

I'm in the same boat as @Oj0 and can confirm I got the same email communication from my channels.

This makes it very difficult to support the brand, considering that:

  • They already ask a 10-15% premium on their products vs their competitors
  • They nearly never have stock on said products
So, Meh indeed.

Fuck. Thank you though.
@DJANGO_ZA will be in the market soon for a 3080 if you managed to get some to sell

Guess there is going to be a lot of Asus mobos dropped as 2nd hand then. :ROFLMAO:
Well if you got a b550/x570 one spare let me know coz my pc is driving me up the fucking wall with constant crashes still...

Got my (gigabyte? amd? gen4? wind 10? whatever the problem was) lot sorted out. Running as smooth as a babies buttock. Be strong, hang on.
Friend had a whole lot of trouble with his Asus Crosshair Hero latest version, so maybe not brand specific?

I just have one stupid question.
If ASUS and Gigabyte (and whoever else) are forcing this on the rtx 30 series, but not on the amd 6000 series... Isn't this more likely nvidia pushing buttons/ an agenda than the aib partners?

What would Nvidia benefit from partners selling more of their own hardware ?
Nvidia doesn't make more money by forcing a MB (example) to be sold with the GPU

PR stunt. They want to look like they are doing "something". I am sure they will use this in their petty shitslinging with AMD.

You seen local AMD price/performance?

I offered a few people RX 6800 XTs yesterday. Not. One. Person. Interested. One commented that if it was R 16k or below they'd consider, but at R 20k it makes zero sense. Not with the poor RTRT performance, lack of DLSS, having to put up with AMD drivers, etc.

An NVIDIA card being a few hundred/thousand Rands more due to the required additional purchase isn't going to sway people when they're saying the AMD cards are ALREADY R 4k to R 8k too expensive.

The bad part is that NVIDIA cards can no longer be pre-ordered with the expectation of getting stock (it'll be first-to-respond-and-pay gets the stock), but also that many won't even be OFFERED the stock as ASUS will have full control of who gets what.

I'm pretty sure I introduced it as "a stupid question".

But also, riddle me this. Why is it applicable to RTX and not RX cards? Purely mining driven by a select few ching chong ding dong in Taiwan/ Hawng Kawng?

Seems like financial suicide...because if Palit or Zotac (or any other brand) decide not to follow suit, then lol... easy sales heading their way. Makes fuckall sense to force consumers into a console-like transaction (whole thing or no thing) when all you want is a component. They will choose with their wallets..

That's fine, for now. But when R4k or R8k grows to R15k+ difference (for a whole computer), this decision gets all the more confusing, to the point of just being plain stupid.

So they go from "shit we dont have stock of GPUs to give the people" to "fuckit, lets force them to buy all our excess hardware if they want the few GPUs we do have".

🤷‍♂️

Well there isn't 1/10th the demand for Radeon cards as for GeForce cards. There isn't a disti in SA that could move 500 of them, whereas each disti could move 500 RTX 30 cards.

Well that's assuming that Palit, Zotac, etc can supply, which they can't. They're selling their five cards whether ASUS sells cards or not.

Well that's where things change completely. If you're buying a full computer you need a monitor, motherboard, or other qualifying component anyway, which negatives the price increase altogether.

Bingo.

Even though the RX6800 XT is not nearly enticing enough, I see Woot are scalping even those cards. They're already nearing R20k. And I totally agree that they're not worth a cent more than R16k.

Nvidia is still untouchable this gen.

It's quite ironic, I remember at the start (September) I was all in with importing from Amazon. Thinking hey boy I will pay R15k max. I'm so so thankful I managed to convince myself to pay R19.5k for this Tuf OC, I had no idea what an issue this will become. If my arrogant side had won out I would've been fucked.

I'm really enjoying this card, as a 4k gamer for the last 5 years I can finally say that 4k plays like a charm. It really was worth the tjing.

I also have no legit idea, my question was sincere :ROFLMAO:
I do not have enough sources to be able to provide a solid answer.

It's freaking weird times. Glad I got my GPU before all this shit started.

Thank you @SILTECH786 and @PC Rescue (PS. I still want your strix)

Told you that you can have it at the price discussed. You're not interested so there's nothing that I can do
