Hi Carbies,

So I really did not want to go down this road but the seller gave me no choice.

Going to copy and paste my PM with @Toxxyc.

Hi Toxxyc,

I contacted this Carbonite member in regards to the external HDD he is selling.

Link to thread here

Long story short the drive ended up dead at my house after I requested a health report on the drive.

As you can see the drive is basically brand new and for the asking price, it was a no-brainer.

I was happy with his iTrader rating and made payment before receiving the drive.

So I contacted, LJ Roos (his full name), on the day when I receive and tested the drive. Side note: The drive was couriered via PostNet2PostNet. In terms of packaging, it was only in a sealed airbag. I think that was the downfall. He should have used bubblewrap because as you know external HDD is very fragile to any falls/bumps.

Initially, I thought it was just a Windows 10 driver issue but I tested it on another system without any luck.

He responded that he will refund me around the 25th of September. Heard nothing from him, so I presume he just got very busy and decided to wait until Friday. Still nothing... I send him a WhatsApp Saturday evening:

[20:07, 9/29/2018] André (Smitty) Smit: Hi LJ.
[20:11, 9/29/2018] André (Smitty) Smit: How're things?. Well, I don’t want to be rude, but I wanted to remind you about the refund regarding the external HDD. I hope you understand I hate to have to ask, but I figure you’ve just been busy and it’s probably slipped your mind with all you have going on. Thanks.

Up to today, no response. Double ticks but not read.

So what is the next step? It is not about the refund but rather the experience with the seller. If he has financial issues or such, it is not a problem. I won't take it personally and he does not have to refund me. But not responding to my messages nor giving me an update on the situation is not pleasant to me.

I do still have the original WhatsApp conversation with him if I need to send it to you.

Thank you.

André

Fast forward to today, still no response from him after giving him a deadline to reply back.

@bluegoon?

Not to derail the thread, but also have a problem with @bluegoon
Bought a tablet from him. link here
Overpaid by R100 by mistake and waiting for him to refund the amount.

My last conversation with him was on the 27th of September, he said he will pay back but now, I am uncertain.

It was only hundred bucks so I wasn't so fussed. But from my conversation with him, he seems strapped for cash right now. I had a one good deal with him before, and he doesn't seems like a bad dude.

@bluegoon responded to my WhatsApp.

I quote his words:

Morning Andrew it's fine dude sorry, I deserve that one, can you get me your banking details ill try to re-deposit either today or tomorrow.
It will be from a Nedbank account so it might take a day or two to reflect but I'll send a notification

Got payment notification SMS from the seller.

Not the same amount which I paid for the drive but oh well.

EDIT: Money reflected in my account
