Asus X570 I Gaming, 3950X and G-Skill 3600 CL16-19-19-39 C-Die

Ok, so if I had to get the best possible 3600-4000mhz 2x16GB sticks for Ryzen what would it be?

Look it is somewhat difficult to say which set to pick as finding a set with Samsung B-Die memory chips is not always that easy. Here is a website that might be useful showing all sets with Samsung B-Die memory chips.


Personally I first for a set of G-Skill FlareX DDR4 3200 CL14 and then purchased a second set of Carbonite and both my sets for 32gb RAM is running 3733 CL16 at present.

AFAIK G.Skill has the best Ryzen compatibility. I think it's the Flare X for non-RGB and Trident Z Neo for RGB. That said my 2 x 8GB Vengeance B-die 3200 CL14 is working really well at 3600 16-16-16 (all timings set manually using DRAM Calculator).

In terms of overclocking the CPU, have you determined what your clock speed boosts to during workloads when left on Auto? My 3700X usually averages at 4.2 or 4.3 while gaming out of a theoretical max boost of 4.4. So I decided that overclocking would be a waste of time, especially since so many tech channels report very little performance gain in overclocking the CPU, while RAM OC is way better for increasing framerates.

That said if you're happy with your OC then by all means, leave it where it is.

Firstly I found cooler load temps when I run my manual overclock of 4.2ghz using 1.1875vcore, currently I am running 4.35ghz using 1.275vcore and it is working perfectly fine and load temps just about the same as when using PBO or leaving everything AUTO. I just cannot get myself to run a processor stock, sorry but I've never had any processor which ran stock from the moment I installed it.

Haha no need to say "sorry" bru, everyone has their preference in this hobby. What works for me may not work for you. For me the only thing I really care about is fps, aesthetics and noise. So I do what gets me the best for all of those parameters. Overclocking the CPU doesn't really achieve those goals so I leave it alone.
 
I also find value in all core clock. The temps are much much better and fan does not spin up and down while the cores dance around for no reason.

AMD is not like intel, it's going from 3.5ghz to 4.2. I dnt think there's need for that small jump. Intel goes all the way down and back up again with better increments.

Well in all honesty, these processors do a pretty decent job at stock or running PBO which is great. I just like to ALL CORE game....he he he

Yeah, I did use B Die finder but thought maybe there were more options.

I am happy with what I have now which is 4.2 at 1.232v all core. Run around 90 degrees C at 100% util. Seems fair and I will probably see better results when I finally get control of my Kraken X63 pump. I am waiting for a USB header splitter to arrive.

Oh yes, I can tell you if you can set the pump speed you will see a drastic change in temps. I try to stay away from 90C CCD or core temp for which my current overclock is fine. Did you try to see if you can lower the vcore a little to see if it would work? Just asking as you may be able to.

I am dialling it back .025 at a time to see where it is stable, run 100% CPU for 2 hours then down a bit more.
 
1.184v and temps have come down 3 degrees. Getting to a much happier state
 
Didn't like 1.184 so went back to 1.2

I have a question though, I set it at 1.3 in the BIOS, under idle it's at 1.28 and under load 1.2

What's up with that shizzle?
 
I also upped the ram speed to 3733 and the voltage to 1.375 still at 16-19-19

I also want this answer. I will like the opposite. Give a little more voltage as it loads. So you could start from a lower voltage =lower temps.

I also experience this.

Your vdroop seem higher than normal. Did you set the LLC in the bios higher to try and negate the vdroop. I know I stated earlier I don't use it, but it is not required with my motherboard. The vdroop I experience is 0.025v or less which I feel is acceptable.
 
Ok, so I have played a bit more and have the following

With the above settings I have .008 vdroop occasionally, system boots at 1.200 and occasionally drifts to 1.192v. Under full load it stays at 1.200 and sometime drifts to 1.192v. (Is the lack of significant vdroop due to a good VRM, decent power supply or what? I have considered upgrading my PSU to the AX1000 Titanium)

Oh, and slap me with a wet sausage but my temps have come down almost 5 degrees C under full load and my wall measured current draw is ~35 watts less under full load as well. WTF?

Guys, thank you all for your help and advice, learning about AMD again has been fun with still much, much more to learn.

Looks really good @Juggy well done. I must say I got another surprised this morning. Look in general I would not run my processor at anything close to 1.3vcore, but this morning I went to 1.35vcore and processor 4.458ghz just to do some 3D benchmarks as strain on processor is not all that much. I ended up breaking my previous best Time Spy score when my processor was running 4.995ghz under Dry Ice, only because I was able with the cooler air to get some more GPU power out. Well, memory was also a little better tweaked.

So when you happy and all is good you can try and see if you can maybe up the memory speed. Trust me when I say that the vdimm / memory voltage would be fine up to 1.45v. The jump from 3600 to 3666 would already give some extra performance. You can check the memory latency using AIDA64.

Both these sets appear to be pretty good looking at the timings and memory speed. Running the memory at that speed however will depend on your setup, mobo and cpu. My previous 3950X could run memory at 3800 with FCLK clock 1900 without an issue, the new 3950X I have cannot do it, but it can do 3733 with 1866 FCLK and it does it with 4 x 8GB memory dimms installed.

3600 with 1800 FCLK should work and if it does you go one step higher for 3733 and 1866 FCLK and if it works then you try the 3800 with 1900 FCLK. That is the only way to test and see what works with your build.

3600/1800 will work as that is what is running now. I also ran 3733/1766 and it was fine. I will buy the 3800 C14's and see what happens.

The plus about the ITX board I have is only 2 memory slots and they are very close to the CPU so the path is shorter. Some believe it matters quite a bit.

I have ordered the 3800 CL14's from NewEgg. Cool thing living in Qatar is some items have zero shipping charges so the 2x8GB kits cost me $199 all in and worst case scenario we get charged 5% import duty or QR35 handling fee or nothing at all.

My USB header splitter arrived this morning. After setting my pump speed at 100% permanently my CPU temps have dropped from 91 to 76

Yup the pump speed makes a difference. Saw it with the H150i Im running. Usually set all 100% fans and all but after windows fresh install could not get pump speed above 1000rpm. Then I found set fans at set speed and select extreme on pump and whst do you know, 2700rpm pump.

The new 3800 CL14 ram arrived but it is either faulty or my board doesn't like it.

Even at 3600 CL14-16-16-36 I get random reboots. When I set to DOCP and dial back the FCLK to 1800 I get random reboots with the following error in the eventlog

A fatal hardware error has occurred.

Reported by component: Processor Core
Error Source: Machine Check Exception
Error Type: Bus/Interconnect Error
Processor APIC ID: 0

Figure out the latest BIOS for my board is a shitty one. Rolled back and I finally have stable overclocks again.

On the latest I couldn't even run 4GHZ at 1.2vcore.
