Hi Guys,

So I've got a Dell Inspiron 13 that was given to me by work in February. Its a second hand unit that was bought off a random IT guy who did work for our company. So anyway, about a week or 2 after I get the laptop I start noticing some of the keys on the keyboard being "sticky". After ignoring it for a few weeks or so, I notice it getting worse. So we send it back to the IT guy to see whats going on and he says the keyboard is water damaged and it will have to be replaced. Cost for this was 3k and I had to cough it up, as this issue occurred when the laptop was in my possession.

Now I see that the "C" button is again starting to feel jammy and needs a few presses before it works. Seems like its happening again. What do I do? Keep in mind I'm a total noob with computers.

I feel like you were ripped off with needing to pay 3k for a replacement keyboard. If the laptop is still within the warranty period, you should be able to contact Dell directly to get it fixed, and it wont cost 3k even with a technician onsite to do it for you.

Yeah I figured that but just sucked it up. The laptop is quite old and has been out of warranty since 2017

3K for an Inspiron keyboard? Notafuck.

So you can try to fix it or contact Dell for a replacement, or even get one off of the internets. But its only going to get worse, once it has started.

Notify the company that they bought a lemon, demand your 3k back and get a proper laptop...

They can't expect you to cover the cost if something goes wrong if hey give you second hand hardware to work with that is already out of warranty??

Yeah if it's the same issue now, I'm not paying 3k again. Going to give them the laptop and just get my own.

Company and IT guy fucked you hard... No lube either... IF he replaced the keyboard & the issue is happening again, claim warranty on the keyboard. Keep in mind that keyboards with LED back-lighting can be stupidly expensive... Another thing - if this is happening again then its very likely that the issue is not on the keyboard but on the motherboard, in which case he didn't diagnose the issue correctly, BUT there is a chance that there is a bad batch of keyboard / this is a known issue IE Apple has had issues with their keyboards on some laptops for a few years now.
