I think I do have a variety of skills within the finance space & am wondering whether I possibly need to expand the job titles I should be applying for.

Here is a detailed breakdown from my job post.

Would appreciate any input at all!

Thanks for the input - most grad programs are sadly below my salary range.
Do you have dependants?
If not, could you save up enough to get you by the graduate program?
If it makes sense for you and lands you at a bracket you'd be happier with as well as a role you'd be more keen on?

I don't but do have medical aid, car and studies to go towards (plus a stupid UIF loan that I am paying up).

I would honestly like to try but have practically ) disposable income and no room to re-apportion things to fuel outside of a 15km range.

That is definitely my plan in theory but I do also have 5 years of work experience & i think that puts me outside of requirements for most grad positions.

Why do you need to limit yourself to certain job titles?
What you study and what you end up doing later in life are often unrelated… unless you study something very specialized like dentistry.

A qualification in the form of a diploma or degree is just a piece of paper that makes it easier to open up some doors to the job market. Thereafter, it’s about how well you sell yourself. I’ve got 2 degrees and what I do now is totally unrelated to either of the degrees. My wife is the same, what she does now is also totally unrelated to what we studied. However, we probably wouldn’t have been able to get to where we are without those qualifications.

While studying engineering, I also had high hopes of doing something in the field. Then reality struck and I realized that there isn’t many engineering positions out there and I took what I got at a decent company.

I do hear you & wholeheartedly agree but the state of recruitment (with recruiters mainly driving the stigma) is that they need to fit job seekers into overly specific boxes with too targeted requirements.

Yeah that’s true. Unfortunately, recruiters don’t really understand the actual job requirements and just look at a title. The other difficulty is that companies don’t always stick to the same job title convention. So position X in one come could be totally different another. My title is like that and I often get called for totally unrelated stuff.

Good luck with your search though.

Appreciate it - the frustration is real :/

Are you using LinkedIn to apply?

A minimum of R 15k net per month
Out of interest, is that salary requirement to meet your basic needs or is it sort of market related for someone with your education in the financial field?

It is to meet my basic monthly obligations (more so given the rampant fuel price increases).
