My fibre line is awaiting migration from the holding pool over to Afrihost - something Vumatel needs to do from what I understand. Apparently most of them are only back on the 15th of January... Anyone here on Carbonite that can assist me to get this done quicker?

Sitting on 4G/connected via phone is not ideal -.-

Good luck with that, best to do is nagg Afrihost constantly so they'll nagg vumatel.
As happy as I am for fibre, vumatel wouldn't be my fist choice for fibre provider

Unfortunately Afrihost or any ISP awaiting the fibre line will have any say in this. Best is to get your current ISP (who still has the line) to nag VUMA to change the line over.

They basically just need to change the VLAN however this is usually only done at 00:00AM on the last day of the month.

I was with CoolIdeas, cancelled with them, it wouldve stopped service end of November but for some reason it was still active for December. On January 1st, no service (ONT power light just keeps flickering), so obviously CISP have finally switched off my account with them.

So after MindTheSpeed took their time to not win at anything, I decided this morning to give Afrihost a chance, having spoken to them on the phone and gotten confirmation that they can see my physical address on their system (which for some reason MTS could not). So it is literally a line migration, out of the holding pool (which CISP has hopefully already processed), to Afrihost.

The hiccup seems to happen between the (new) ISP trying to find my address on the Vumatel portal, and Vumatel being 'available' to process my bloody line from the holding pool over to Afrihost. Surely this process is a few clicks????

this is usually only done at 00:00AM on the last day of the month.
Btw, if you apply at an ISP halfway through the month, surely they won't wait till month end to organise this VLAN change?

Thats is unfortunately the problem, the line does not go in to a holding pool like it does with Openserve.

It is basically a cancellation from the old ISP and an application from the new ISP, VUMA then changes over the VLAN to the new ISP where you are assigned an IP from the new ISP's IP range.

ISP's generally only cancel your service for the end of the month as that is when the fibre migration usually happens via VUMA and then through the new ISP's API.

My recommendation here is to contact VUMA, provide them with your VT number (should be on the ONT) and ask them what the status is on your fibre line. Get a reference number from VUMA and provide it to Afrihost along with the request of activating your fibre service.

Hope this helps.

my 2c, I signed up with afrihost and cancelled before they arranged installation. I signed up with someone else.
Afrihost already took my line from the pool. It took about 2 months and eventually a visit to their office to fix the issue.
They claimed they didn't have the line anymore, but admitted in the end that it was stuck in some other queue noone looks at, ever.

Make extra sure that your line is actually released.

Well, I took @Rambo.T 's advice and started to nag them this morning. Vumatel said they havent received an order yet...even though I applied yesterday morning. People can call me impatient, but for fuck sakes, its 2020..I fill in 90% of the documentation on signing up. How long does it take to send an order through?? Anyway, bugged Afrihost, the lady over the phone quickly (10min later) got back to me and gave me an order reference number. So now its with Vumatel...might even happen today. Will bug them at 12 again to just CLICK THE BUTTON!!!!!!!!

The incompetence at at Afrihost and Vumatel is driving me nuts.
If you still don't come right, email Afrihost CEO directly, you can use the email that is used for sending out that marketing material the Gian one, I actually got a response and he CC's someone and my issue got resolved last time that way

That's rather interesting. A pity you needed to go to those lengths, but the fact that you received a reply and action was taken, is at least something.

I've had no issues with VOX. Was on 20/2 for a few months, then upgraded to 50/5.

Did you get sorted or still not
Yes, I eventually got it sorted. After harassing both Vumatel and Afrihost every 3 hours for a bout 3 days. Vumatel even later sent a team to the premises and found the line to be 'abnormal' and sorted that.

Personally I dont think that a line that is physically installed and active, that ONLY needs to be 'electronically' migrated/configured needs to take longer than 10 days. But that's just me I suppose. My friend who stays in NZ ordered his fibre the morning, they installed/activated it by late afternoon. Its not fucking rocket science. It is, obviously, the difference between top 10 and junk status countries.
