I want to get a dual monitor mount so I can put my second screen in portrait orientation.

My main screen is a 24in 144Hz 1080p Asus VG248QE, which has a really good fully-adjustable stand that can rotate into portrait mode. But it's my main screen so it has to remain in landscape orientation.

The second screen is an old 23in LG with a very basic built-in stand, but it looks like it has VESA holes on the back. The built-in stand doesn't connect to the VESA holes, it connects at the bottom of the screen.

My first thought was to get one of these dual arm monitor mounts to mount both monitors. I would use the clamp mount.

Also to keep in mind is I'm planning on upgrading my main monitor to a 27in 1440p 144Hz display. So it would have to support this. At that point I would probably sell the Asus and keep the LG, as having 144Hz on the second screen is overkill.

Does anyone have any experience with such mounts? Do they work well? Would it be better to leave the Asus on its stand and get a single-arm mount to put the LG in portrait?

Thanks all for the advice.

I have a dual gas mount, and I wish I would have rather gone with two single mounts.
The arms on most dual ones aren't very long, so mounting one screen infront of you, and one on the side is very difficult.

It feels like it was more designed to have you sitting in the middle of the two screens rather than sitting infront of one with the other one offset a bit.

There are ways around it, but for flexibility two single mounts would be better.

North Bayou is substantially cheaper. (bought mine at takealot for something like R800 2/3 weeks ago) I have the F160 and have two Dell 27" screens mounted. One screen has an odd/proprietary mount which is a ball ache, so had to get an adaptor. Not the best looking mount, but it works.

I have significantly more space on my desk, but the original Dell mounts had a much cleaner look.

I've had the F160 on my wishlist for months now. And it looks like it has disappeared :(

Well paint me purple and call me Bruno, obviously you're better at navigating Takealot than me. Thanks!

Do they keep both monitors upright nicely? They don't droop or anything?

EDIT: I see the max weight rating is 2 x 6kg. Some of the more hectic 27in screens are around 8kg, like the Predator X27. Not that I'd ever be able to afford such a monster, but I wonder if I shouldn't go with the more expensive one that supports up to 9kg...

That F160 will hold substantially more than 6kg. You need to put some effort into adjusting the height. My Dell s2719DGF (according to google) weighs 9.3kg, second screen is 7.1kg. No droopyness here.

Great. Just ordered one. Thank you, you champion 💪

I had to do a double take, was concerned that I might have listed the wrong item. The Takealot advert says 2 - 6.5kg, however the F160 box says 2 - 9kgs.

144HZ is never overkill - have 3 but only use 1 for gaming :p

Ah thanks for checking. I reckon if it can hold your monitor with no issues, it will work for me either way. And if I do end up upgrading my monitor and it doesn't work with the new one then I'll just sell it and get a beefier one.

Also have one of these and they are fantastic really.

I got my more simplistic triple monitor one from look and its a little flimsy but once setup right, absolutely no

Okay, so the F160 arrived today and honestly I am quite blown away. Mini review:

It was pretty straightforward to install everything and get it set up the way I like it. The freedom and flexibility you have to arrange the screens exactly how you want them is pretty incredible. It feels extremely sturdy. It holds both my displays with ease, and I have no doubt it will easily hold two 27" monitors. Mine also says up to 9kg per screen on the box even though the Takealot listing says 6kg.

Two short drawbacks. To get the main monitor low enough, the arm has to bend quite far back, so either the monitor has to be right under your nose or the desk has to be quite far from the wall behind it (+/- 10cm in my case). I also found the plastic brackets for cable routing to be very flimsy. Honestly a couple of velcro straps would probably work way better.

@ovisser1 I see what you mean about the challenge of having one monitor in the centre of the desk and the other off to one side. For me though that problem was solved by placing the mount at a significant offset toward the second screen's side. Basically you want the clamp to be in the centre of the two screens, meaning it's aligned with the one edge of your main screen. Maybe try that?

EDIT: thanks @Wadkiller for the help! I can't believe I didn't do this sooner :ROFLMAO:

@goldfritter
Are you able to mount the monitors horizontally on top of each other?
Am looking for a mount that can do that. Currently have 2 dell 23's in vertical next to my 32 but would prefer to have them horizontal so if anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Cheers

Hmm I am not sure. I can check when I get home. It might be possible especially if they're just 23" monitors.

Unfortunately the F160 seems to be sold out on Takealot :( There are monitor other mounts that look like they are specifically designed to hold two monitors horizontal one above the other, so those might be better bets.

I think we've got the same units by the sound of it. I have both of mine in landscape, one above the other, no gap between the screens. I've modified mine using some wood to do a proof of concept, to allow 1x portrait on each side of the 2x screens. SUPER handy! Was a bit of a mission as you need to find the balance point as 2x screen now use 1x arm.

@goldfritter I've got a dual-arm & have setup +-10 at a clients office.

PRO - more desk depth
- Better height (helps me sit up straight)
- looks cool lol

CON - Arm only has 1x 'joint' so it isn't the most malleable setup.
- A part of my 1 arm broke (was apparently pewter and not metal) but I rotated a part & used a bolt to fix things.

Having had this mount for +- 2 years, I would never go back to having my screens on my desk. Eventually I'll probably grab a 60" 4K TV, and use PowerTools to split the 65" into 6-8x screens.

My only issue with those is the amount of movement forward and backward the monitors would have.
I did find this NB one on special and handles 2 x 32" monitors
Am i'm sure with 415mm clearance to the mid of the mount that will have more than enough space for 2 monitors stacked.

Would anyone with the f160 mount say that there's enough spacing between the the two mounts for a 34" ultra wide and a 27"? Asking for a friend :p

Both monitors do run under the max weight

Uhhhh my impression is no :ROFLMAO: and like I said earlier the F160 is out of stock on Takealot so unless you can find it elsewhere you're out of luck. Looks like I may have got the last one...

But this one that @Random_Sheep linked is supposed to manage 2x32" monitors so that is probably a better bet:

Ahh... I'll probably stick with one arm for my 27 inch on the side then 😪
For those interested in the F160, I think makro seems to have stock on their online exclusives. Haven't ordered it yet to see but it says in stock :)
