Any music producers out there?

Yeah bro, been making music for nearly 8 years now. Really got into the engineering side of it about 4 years ago.

I use Ableton currently, by far my favorite DAW to use just because of the sheer simplicity and ironically, the logic of it. 🤣

When it comes to VST's I mostly use Arturia's V Collection and Analog Lab, as well as FabFilter Total Bundle for effects and processing.
For my mastering process I use iZotope's Ozone, which is really really good for bringing the life out of your mixes.
I also have a bunch of other random plugins like Massive, Graillon(an autotune/Auto-pitching software), Tunetracks EZ Bass, just to add to my library.

Keep in mind though your sound library is just as important as your VST's. Find the right kind of packs that fit with your sound and producing becomes way easier.

I work mainly in Cubase since I have a huge collection of synths and sound modules and midi routing is easy to set up in it but as far as DAWs go I always suggest to use what ever you feel comfortable with. I do mastering for local producers in FL studio since its easier to manipulate stuff in its native project.

Plugin wise like @MetalFingers says Fabfilter and Ozone best way to polish any mix with ease and the visual feedback they provide is great. I also love fabfilter due to its sidechaining features.

For Vst Instruments depending on the sounds you want Omnisphere is a good one and covers multiple genres however because its sample based the library is huge ( 8 Dual layer DVDs at the time I purchased it). Other classics I use is Sylenth ( For pluck lines) Sonic Academy ANA 2 but I guess it depends on what you looking for. For guitars I use Archetype: Gojira / Tim Henson (Best all in one plugin for guitars)

The one hidden gem that is underrated is Trackspacer - One of the best plugins for sidechain processing by far. Best thing to help mixing in vocals and the usual kick bass sidechain stuff.

There is no limit one mans trash is another mans gold, in the end it all depends how you use the plugins yourself..

@NathanL couldn't have said it better myself.

I'm definitely going to check out trackspacer. I've been using Ableton's stock sidechain compressor and it has given me really great sounding sidechaining, but third party vst's usually have something special up their sleeves. I'm excited to try it out!

Trackspacer is an EQ based plugin so the signal generates a subtractive EQ and of course you get the attack and release settings you can mess around with and a BIG wet knob lol. I found it gets my mixes alot tighter especially if I am working in the genres where you dont wanna lose frequencies or have to set up something like Fab Filter MB to do multiband Sidechaining

have you ever used a launchpad on ableton?⚡

I actually use shaperbox 2 😂 it's my go to for midi triggered sidechaining but the results aren't as precise and good as trackspacer since shaperbox is basically volume and trackspacer is a reactive eq.

The one thing I really like about omnisphere is the ability to have multiple outputs, so one synth running with like 6 different audio outputs (saves alot of cpu usage) could always help you sort that out in FL studio. Then you just have a midi track and route the midi into the synth.

Majority of my dubstep / DnB sound design is done with Serum if you can get your hands on some decent wavetable expansions you can get some solid plucks leads and growls out of it. But lately I have mainly been recording rock / metal music with electronic influences. Trackspacer saved my but multiple times when instruments clash as it can make just enough space to remove the clashing.

Like I said use the DAW you know. 😂 I started off with protools and 2 HDX cards but now I realised that there is easier workflows that fit my style.

Sadly due to my current health I haven't had time for anything music related recently. So I don't even know what new plugins and DAWs are available.

Yeah bro! Never owned one though lmao 😭. I used one at same audio visual showcase day that used to take place at the dome in jhb a few years back.
Other than that - hardware wise I have an M-audio keystation 61 as well as a Korg drum machine, my trusty AKG P220 mic and some m audio BX-8 monitors, then just my bass and acoustic.
What kinda hardware you working with?

The choice of DAW does depend somewhat on what type of music you're producing, and if you're sticking with synths or natural instruments.

I'm a heavy metal guy, so for the stuff I do Reaper has been the best fit in terms of a DAW. I also own licenses for several others, including ProTools.

Regarding VST, I try not to overcomplicate matters. Reaper's free ReaPlugs deliver about 80% of what I need from plugins, the rest is a blend of free and paid VST such as Tokio Dawn, Dead Duck and AirWindows, together with Slate Digital.

All acoustic musicians whom I've recorded thus far have had their stuff produced with stock plugins in either Reaper or Cakewalk.

I rate Studio One very highly, as do I Ardour. We are really spoiled for choice now.

I dabble for fun.... Mostly use FL and Reason-(I know) with an Akai MPK mini and some actual instruments and a cardioid mic. Oh and then recently have been introduced by one of my great muso friends to Melodyne for recording vocals

Hi bud😎 for now I'm using Samson sr850 studio headphones and a Samson carbon 49 midi controller not forgetting my novation launchpad mk2⚡

You know what the funny thing is I just remembered i actually used Shaper box for a quick tutorial I made on using midi triggers for sidechaining 😅 haha but if you guys need any help with midi and audio routing (eg 4 sounds out of one omnisphere to different mixer tracks etc) I'm always keen to share knowledge.

Would be awesome to know:

What DAW are you using? 🎧

And what vsts do you mostly use?...🎹
Greetings! First post after spotting the music thread.

Freelance guitar player full-time, but composing and learning how to implement audio.
Excited to see what local folks are creating.

How good are your engineering skills?

How good are your engineering skills?
On a scale of 1-10 I'd rate my engineering skills about a 6. I am a perfectionist, which definitely aides in the final quality of the product. I am always trying to get better though, and honestly speaking I think that the level of quality I achieve with most of my music is right up there with the industry standard. If you'd like you can go listen to a project of mine. Just search "TylerrKing Nine" on whatever platform you use to stream music. Let me know what you think of the sound!

Hi all hope you're well ;) ....Did anyone here release a song or complete a full track?
