I'm a very excited new owner of a 1983 Clubman that's currently in pieces, but the mini forum is dead.. last post was last year sometime...
Does anyone know if there's a place in Gauteng that sell parts and get some wisdom?

There was a somewhat dodgy looking shop in Westdene that had plenty of Minis parked outside in various states of disrepair. Might be a good place to start your search.

Congrats on (what will surely be) the new whip!

In fact, I think this Gumtree ad was posted by the Westdene-based crowd: Classic mini spares | Other | Gumtree South Africa. The location is 15 Thornton Road, Westdene. Use Google Maps satellite- and street-view to see all the Mini bodies stashed behind that house. Street-view imagery was taken in December 2021 so the operation is probably still going.

I've seen all the Gumtree adds lol, I also have been to springs.. also the guy strip mini's for spares but no guarantee on anything...
I just found out that Midas sells a complete gasket kit, so that's good news. While the engine is in pieces I need to source where to find a Verto clutch kit? O and the exhaust manifold is broken, that I need to find second hand... so ja fun times ahead...

I had a Mini GTS race car that I restored and I tried all the Mini guys for parts and the best by far was Dez from Dez's Minis.

I also own 2 classic mini's. I own a Mini 1275 GT 1971 and a Mini 1275 GTS 1979 model.

if you require any info, just send me a message, have a few people i can recommend for parts etc.

welcome to owning a classic mini

Had three Minis, MK1 1965, KM2 1972 and a 197x GTS.
The wheels on the GTS was almost as wide as the car :p 215/50 13"

My usual guy was oom Koos in wierdapark area. And then Dez, still have him on whatsapp.

I also attempted the BMW K100RS 16V head conversion, never finished it though.

I still own a 1966 Austin Mini 1000 Mk1 as well, that's also in need of a few parts... Mini Workshop in Pomona Rd was always one of the go-to places for me, along with Kollie van der Westhuizen in Garsfontein in Pretoria - although he will insist on new parts and importing, which is sometimes better, but not cheap.

Hey Manne
Glad to see some more mini lovers here. I've owned 3 minis before and recently got another one! 1974 1275 that's actually in a very good condition for its age. It's a runner that needs a bit of attention, so really happy to start tinkering with it.
Will probably have to do rings and gaskets soon since it has the trademark Leyland oil leak but this weekend I'll be replacing a piece of brake line that was leaking. Found a place in Germiston that can make up any brake lines for them, including fittings.
Hope to post a pic or two soon. You guys should do the same.

@Moskonfyt, dankie vir die verwysing na Carb. Nie geweet die manne hier like van Minis nie 😂

Wow looking gooood! cannot wait for the engineering company to give me the shock of how much the engine will be for overhaul.. Struggling to get some parts...
Fun fact, did you know that the GTS was only manufactured in South Africa? Everywhere else they stopped at GT..
