I recently received a ModMic4 as a gift (yes I know, *blushes). I've spent about a week with it, which I feel is a good time to give my initial impressions and thoughts;

It is important to place the mic relative to your mouth like they show in the pictures. Otherwise it becomes too sensitive at times, and at other times extremely soft. I am running it through a usb sound card, which might alter its sound a little bit. Nevertheless, the recordings I have made so far sounds really good, with little to no feedback or background noise. But it does take awhile to setup just right.

The swivel up feature with the magnet is amazing. I wish more gaming headsets implemented the same system. No mechanical movement means that the connection will never wear with the swivel function, looking at you Corsair!

The cable is messy. No way to get around that. I have it clipped onto a dual HD650 cable, so this is a extra thicc boi lying on my table. As a headphone enthusiast, you quickly learn that cables are a part of the experience, so I don't mind it. I wish the HD650 and mic cable was braided, as I prefer that feel and aesthetic. The provided clips to combine the mic to whichever headphone cable grips well, without putting a ton of pressure on the cables themselves. I hope to replace my HD650 cable sometime in the near future for something a little nicer, unfortunately though I don't think I will be to braid the mic cable without adding too much weight and restricting its movement too much.

I was skeptical on the little magnetic clips that go on the headphones themselves, as I thought if you lose/break them the mic would become worthless unless you find some crude way of mounting it. Working with the mic for awhile now, I can see how one could easily 3D print more when the time arrives. It will obviously require you to source a strong af tiny magnet like the ones Antlion already uses.

I did some searching with the 3D printing in mind, and found files for all kinds of neat mic solutions. Including all replacement parts for the Modmic. That is great news, as we have many 3D printing gurus on the forum. I might be ordering a few cable clips for managing my other cables soon. Time to get a 3D printer? LINKY

All in all, a solid purchase. I still feel that we can come up with a cheaper solution with locally available mics. My motivation to figure something out myself is at a all time low though, given I have the ModMic now. The product is extremely well built, and should last just as long as whichever headphones you put them on.

Do you know whether the gift experienced the usual amount of travel or whether another source was used?
