Based on the carb review ... Which I can't reply to

So as an iPhone user and having had pretty much all the iPhone models since say the iPhone 5s (or was it 6)... What do I think of the Samsung note and android ?

The short of it ... It's a great phone

Battery life has been amazing. With normal usage seeing my battery at 50% by like 6pm and on a heavy day before I sleep it will be on 20%. I've never run out of battery. (Currently set to adaptive battery and despite it moving between optimised and medium I have not noticed a difference in my user experience )

The screen ... Oh my ... It's beautiful. It's massive. (That's what she said [emoji2]). The picture quality and experience rivals my Samsung Q9FN television. Watching HDR content is breathtaking as the screen can get very bright (saw a review complaining about the screen brightness ... guess that was an apple sponsored review). On a smaller phone I'd only watch video content if I really had to. With this phone I look forward to it ... So I'd take the big screen experience over it fitting uncomfortably in my pocket

And on the size question. It's a big phone and its size for me only becomes an issue when trying to slip it into my skinny pants [emoji1787]. But when using it ... I love the size. I do type better on this phone then I have on my iPhone X because the keyboard is bigger. For bigger hands a bigger phone is definitely welcomed. And if that size does bother you well then don't get the plus or max model ... But absolutely agree that Samsung should have had the same spec for spec sheet for their note 10 like they do for their 10+ (this is a cue from Apple Samsung should have taken)

So what else is good ? The camera is great and like I've said before I was happy with the iPhone X camera and all high end cameras these days are great. If you really into photography get a dslr. The ergonomics of the phone is also great and holding it in the hand with the Samsung leather case is comfortable. The weight of the phone is also great where it's not heavy like an iPhone. My biggest fear was a bloated android OS and I'm happy to see a very almost pure android OS experience.

The phone is quick enough (again all high end phones are fast) and with the big ram it has, having multiple things open be it apps or website tabs, the phone not once exhibited any signs of it being out of memory or slowing down where it needed to reload stuff. It's just been a great experience using the OS and Apple is usually king in this department due to the simplicity of iOS. I have kept things simple despite all this customisation as my finger tips. I do have a single screen with all my apps (akin to my iPhone screen :))

The s-pen honestly I do not use as much. But it has proven handy for annotating pictures. Being busy with home renovations you always have a need to measure stuff and send pics to contractors so it's proven useful here and with signing of documents as well. Outside of this ... Nah. And truthfully if the s-pen wasn't there I wouldn't miss it all together ... It's useful but not a deal breaker.

The other feature I saw myself using more often is Google assistant. It has been more accurate and natural to use than Siri. Setting calendar reminders or going "hey Google call my sister" has been a more "natural" experience

Phone voice quality is great. And Samsung pay ... Boy or boy. This stuff works with machines that have tap and that also don't have tap ... And it's been flawless. Only issue is the merchant not believing me and then allowing me to let it work its magic, only for them to go "technologeee [emoji2]"

So the bad then ?

Everytime I thought there was something lacking on the phone there was a setting that fixed it ... Take a screenshot and having the ability to discard it once shared? ... Like the iPhone does ... Well there is a setting for that. Btw I love the idea of swiping my palm across the screen to take screenshots versus hitting a combo with the volume power buttons.

WiFi holding onto weak signals. There is a also a setting for that (albeit under developer options). And even when I thought the in-screen finger print sensor was horrible. There was a YouTube video showing exactly the best way to register your fingerprint and now I have no issues at all with it. And if it did fail (which now it does not) there is face recognition.

Here is that video btw to improve fingerprint recognition ... Highly recommend people following this

But that made me realise this about android. Chances are there is a setting that can fix what ever issue you think you might have or that's missing. The carb review complaining about making a call. I honestly have not noticed the issue with the dialler or it being a frustration. Maybe cause I was use to such on the iPhone. But honestly this is a niggle. Clicking on the contact and then the dial icon. The notification sound (was it?) when making a call? I honestly don't have that ... Never did.

So my main gripe with this phone is not even one about the actual phone itself. It's the availability of a decent screen protector. The one preinstalled with the phone will scratch up easy after a short time and finding one that is decent is a problem and this is because of that curved screen. So currently have a gel type from 3sixty and it's ok. Would prefer glass but it will do for now.

The build quality is good but slightly shy of apples microscopic attention to detail. To see how this phone will fair with use, time will tell as I doubt aluminium will be good as stainless steel.

In the end I thought moving to android would be painful and truthfully I am happy with the note 10+ ... A phone should in my opinion be there to ultimately communicate effectively be it using voice or data and the only time it should be noticed is when it becomes a nuisance or frustrates when using it and not doing what you need it to do. And thus far it's been a trustworthy assistant for me. Yes no phone today has been evolutionary and we hitting that cusp of makers having a phone do most of our daily chores short of making coffee and it's becoming increasingly difficult for them to innovate. Do you need a note 10+ or iPhone 11 or mate 30 pro etc ... No you don't and for a few generations now phones have been great. The Note 10+ is an iterative enhancement but does not take away from it being a great piece of tech

Ive been asking on many groups as to how is the note 10 + as im currently using a mate pro and its been to good me, but very tempted to move to the note.

Grest review, especially coming from you who is an avid iPhone user. Thanks @adamr

Now... The question is... Wait to see if theres any black friday cash deals or bite the bullet now. [emoji16]

With the dialer thing, I've basically never used that contacts tab on Android. Just put it on keypad then "type" the person's name. Eg. 2326 for Adam. This is something I noticed was "missing" when I had an iPhone.

Love my Note.

The wide-angle is probably the only lens I use 95% of the times.

The unique curved edge screen is amazing and brings your viewing to life.

Man, it is just all-out a fantastic phone.

Yeah a few months down and I don't notice the phone. Which is a good thing as it means it has seamlessly integrated into my routine without giving me any worries like low battery or hangs or ... stuff just not working the way I intended etc

There are things though, some unrelated to the phone that erk me. The Samsung leather cover is crap. So where the apple leather cover patinas over time the leather used on the Samsung covers have the colour fading off them. And I am extremely particular on my stuff so highly disappointed. If anyone knows a decent leather snapback case let me know.

Then there is the availability of decent glass covers. I really can't work with this gel type screen protectors cause they get all greasy and stuff making the phone look cheap and dirty.

On the phone itself a small nitpick... the adaptive brightness feature at night does not dim enough. I liked that apple allowed one to tweak this to my liking and it would adjust the brightness based on my "offset" adjustment if I can call it that

Also Samsung can give more picture tweaking options like apple have. Black point ... Colour vibrance etc ... Which has proven useful in giving pictures that finer much needed adjustment

On the positive ... Bixby routines (not Bixby itself) ... No review talks about this feature really and it's a good one allowing one to let the phone do certain things if certain condition are met. For example when I play Netflix or VLC player on the phone I have the phone enable Atmos and enable full resolution screen and some added brightness

S-pen I honestly have not used it much only to annotate pictures. The screen is amazing and I've chosen to watch movies netflix on my phone because of it. Battery life is great and the phone has not died on me and the one day going 7am to like 2am the next morning with constant use. Oh and yes Samsung pay :) ... It has failed on me maybe once or twice and I think it's more because of the negative energy from the teller ... But it's been stellar. Works on non tap POS devices as well if people didn't know

On the camera front ... There is a difference in picture quality between the different camera modes and it's clear these lenses are not all equal. Also I generally do prefer the more natural real to life pictures from apple. Wide angle is amazing for sure and pictures on the whole are "exquisite" (which movie was this word used in !?). Night mode also works well which makes one think there is some witch craft at play.

In terms of build, Apple for me personally always seemed to use much superior materials in making their phones when compared to Samsung. Heft is also a perceived trait of quality and the Samsung is particularly light. Time will tell how well this phone handles normal day to day use. The apple iPhone X did not scratch up. But so far the Samsung has been great with no scratching or damage to the exposed bottom part of the phone.

I like the phone and despite the small niggles I would give it a strong 7.8 / 10. There are certain things apple does extremely well and there are things Samsung and android does well. Again at this top echelon they all good phones. Don't think any of them being perfect yet ... But they all amazing . So if apple fundamentally changes their design I would have no issues going back to apple ... Likewise no issues trying other android devices not just Samsung. There are finally choices

What do you think of the Otterbox cases?

My friend has one on his iPhone 8. Very bulky, yes but that thing is built like a tank! You can literally drop it out of your car while riding.

Currently rocking a UAG cover, very happy with it but will be honest, if I drop my phone while riding my bike I don't think the screen will survive it.

The uag and Otterbox too crazy for me ... Snapback leather case ... Not those wallet one

One thing I also took for granted on the Note, is the S-Pen - I really thought I would not use it at all.

In fact, it made my life 10x times easier.

I needed to fill out a lot of forms for my studies this year, as well as a cycling club that I want to join.

The 'Write on PDF' option made it super easy, wow.

New update out

Love the new update!

Better battery life already, squeezing two days out of my Note 10 (not plus).
Disclaimer: Not the heaviest user out there but still very impressive to me as I watch YouTube videos on my phone each night

More flowy animations.

New look to certain system apps.

I absolute hate this piece of Samsung garbage. After the update there is noticable lag (in any app) when typing on the keyboard as soos as you type a lil too fast it exits the app. Samsung's keyboard. Gboard. Swift key. All the same problem. I tried changing so many touch settings I feel dirty about the amount of times I needed to type touch.

I recently restored the phone to factory defaults because of the typing lag. So not an option.

Sometimes, it doesn't happy a lot, but when it happens it annoys the living boob nipples off of me, because I'm an entitled little shit and should not have to wait for an app to open on one of the most expensive phones in the marketwhen switching between apps I will have to wait a hot minute before it actually goes in to the app.

Cool an now it doesn't want to select text, at all, so the previous paragraph will make little sense.

I said I would never do Samsung, I folded bought a Samsung and now this excuse of a premium dump of tech is such a burden.

I would rather get shoved up so far in a Huawei built in backdoor than ever buy another Samsung again.

Luckily I haven't had any issues with my keyboard, well what I can notice, I mainly type via WhatsApp Web anyways.

As for waiting for an app to open, not experienced that as well, but I would also poop in my pants if it happens to me. Comin' you paid a premium price for a product, so you do have high expectations.

Hopefully, it is not only you and that the developers would work on a fix ASAP. Maybe provide feedback from your side to them.

I love my phone and the dbrand skin on the back attractive a lot of attention at the campus. It is truly a beautiful phone.

Gee die foon kans man

Cant say im having the same problem with the new update. No lag no funny stuff ... Only thing is with the new update i did enable the three bars at the bottom for home, app drawer and go back functionality... But I always end up opening samsung pay instead of the home screen. Battery life is great cant complain ...

My biggest gripe is the lack of decent glass screen protectors for the phone

There is a silver lining to all of this... I use my phone a lot less, because it annoys me so much. Haha

I have spoken to Samsung on a previous issue, something simple where even after I disabled the notifications tone setting while on a call, I would still hear the notifications during a call. Samsung told me to reset to factory default. This two weeks after I got the phone.

I will however contact them to see if they know about the problem and if they have a fix that isn't resetting the phone.

I am still using the plastic pre-installed screen protector. That is also how I will sell the phone in the months to come.

I have an update. Literally there is a new update. N975FXXU2BTB3. I saw this released a couple of days ago in the Germ-anywho, was really hoping this would solve the typing problem and I am glad to say that my faith in Samsung has not been restored.

I did however get a fix for my problem. FluidNG. I did one last test, I disabled the gesture navigation and put on the "physical" navigation, that takes up about 3 quarters of my screen real estate, and there I was typing at hyper speed. Fingers were starting to blister after the first 10 seconds of typing.

But me being me, I didn't like the fact that I now have to deal with a solid bar across the bottom of screen. I remembered that I used an app called FluidNG on my Mate 20 Pro before the gesture update was released. It doesn't require rooting (for more in depth functions it does) so download, give permissions and you are good to go. Basically what this does, it allows me to adjust the height from where I want to swipe to enable a gestures which is what interfered with my typing.

Also it allows me to use "swipe from left or right to go back" while using another launcher, which in my case is the Microsoft Launcher.

Will the upcoming Apple event convert @adamr back to Apple? Will Tik Tok prevail in their fight against privacy? How will our heroes survive the fight against pointless benchmark apps? Tune in after 15 September to find out!

This announcement was sponsored by an independent 3rd party that is definitely hopefully not affiliated with Harmony OS, TikTok, or The Orange President.

On a serious em, note though: Currently using a Mate 20 Pro - quite happy. Gf is using a Note 10. She misses the iPhone 7 she had before the Note 10. I'm unsure if I should give the Note 10 a chance if it gets sent to the abandoned tech drawer, or venture into the apple land myself.
I've grown fond of iOS navigation on my iPad, but I do stop and realise every now and then, the phone is used for calls, WhatsApp, and POINTLESS PLEASE DELETE ME mindnumbing scrolling through apps like Instagram when there is an idle minute or idle hands. Sure the camera gets some use, and the photos typically get sent on via social media again then. Actual content consumption from YT, Netflix, Crunchyroll, Manga, internet browsing and Plex... happen on the tablet most of the time. So I find myself asking, aside from justifying it, is there anything to gain from moving away from my Mate 20 Pro? Wherever that move might go?

[emoji1787] ... Dont think i want to pay those apple prices. Certainly dont want to pay the prices the current 11 is at [emoji3061]

The one big pet peeve for me on the Note 10 is the damn finger print sensor and the fact that there is very little accessories for it even abroad [emoji20]

Also i have had the occasional freeze on me in chrome.

I have non of these problems on my P40 Pro... But I also don't have GMS, so there is that.

@adamr I've been considering jumping the iPhone ship into Samsung. I'm just worried about software updates. I don't upgrade often (I'm still on an iPhone 8 Plus) and I still get the latest iOS version. My friend jumped to an S20 5G and loves it. I think the watch and so on that come with the phone are gimmicks but prove me wrong.

Let me be brutally honest. Stick with Apple. Android slow down is a real thing. While the phone is great still there has been times the phone was not responsive on a particular app. Even a few occasions scrolling Reddit has been painful ... With the screen moving like I'm browsing on a potato. A phone on its basic level should seemlessly integrate into your lifestyle and not be something you notice ... The above will just frustrate. It does not happen all the time but truth is it is happening more often as the phone gets older and I'm noticing it

Accessories for some reason are hard to come by. Screen protectors and cases. In-screen Finger print access is not the best. Slow and sometimes will not register ... Still a good phone but ... Apple is just a polished product

I've been an iPhone user since the 3g. The pixel 2 XL was the only phone that made me switch to android and ditch apple.

For some reason I always go back to the pixel. An that is after pretty much owning every flagship out there.

Anyways, point I'm trying to make. If you want near apple experience, get a pixel.

See, this is exactly why when people tell me that they have an 8 core phone with 12gigs of RAM and iPhones don’t, I think, “that’s what Android needs to be competitive “.

I prefer iOS to Android as a fundamentally better OS.

I was routing for the Ubuntu Linux based phone because that would just be amazing but that was a long shot.

people forget that iOS is UNIX and Android is also linux but the skins and shit that Samsung apply are just trash. I think all android phone manufacturers should just use the stock skin.

will check out the Pixel - it’s cheap here because of all the competition.

edit: Google has a promo whereby if I preorder the new Pixel 5, I get a free pair of Bose QC35 version 2 headphones.
